Bitpoke's MySQL Operator manages the resources needed to run a highly available MySQL cluster on Kubernetes: a cluster-per-service deployment model, scheduled and on-demand backups with point-in-time recovery, and cloning both within and across clusters. It installs via a Helm chart that deploys the controller together with an [Orchestrator](https://github.com/openark/orchestrator) cluster for replication topology management and failover.

It's built on Percona Server for MySQL (5.7 and 8.0) rather than stock MySQL or MariaDB — the README cites Percona's backup locks, monitoring, and serviceability improvements (such as the utility user) as the reason, while keeping the deployment a drop-in replacement. The operator was originally built by [Bitpoke](https://www.bitpoke.io/) to run its own cloud-native WordPress hosting and was later open-sourced; it's released under the Apache 2.0 license, with Bitpoke also offering paid commercial support for it separately.

This MCP server, distributed as the `mysql-mcp-server` package on PyPI, lets MCP clients such as Claude Desktop, Claude Code, and other AI hosts explore and query a MySQL database through a controlled interface rather than a raw connection string. It exposes tables as MCP resources, and tools for executing SQL (`execute_sql`), reading schema information (`get_schema_info`), and sampling table data (`get_table_sample`), alongside prompts for guided database exploration. It supports both stdio and Streamable HTTP (SSE) transports, SSH tunneling for remote databases, and an optional multi-database mode.
17+
18+
Database and table identifiers are checked against an allowlist of safe characters before use, credentials and SSH keys are masked in logs, and the README recommends connecting with a dedicated, minimally privileged MySQL user — it notes the SSE transport has no built-in authentication and should sit behind an authenticating reverse proxy if exposed beyond localhost. The project is MIT-licensed and maintained by Dana K. Williams.

MySqlConnector implements the ADO.NET classes needed to query and update databases from managed .NET code — `DbConnection`, `DbCommand`, `DbDataReader`, and `DbTransaction` — against MySQL 5.5 and newer and MariaDB 10.x and newer. It's a clean-room reimplementation of the MySQL wire protocol, not a fork of Oracle's Connector/NET, and the project's own benchmark (MySqlConnector 2.3.1 vs. MySql.Data 8.2.0 against Azure Database for MySQL 8.0.34 over TLS 1.2) is cited as the reason many .NET teams switch to it.

It implements async support throughout the ADO.NET surface, including newer APIs such as `DbBatch` (.NET 6.0) and `DbDataSource` (.NET 7.0), and fixes a long list of bugs that remain outstanding in Connector/NET. Distributed as the `MySqlConnector` NuGet package, it's MIT-licensed and free to use with commercial software — unlike Connector/NET, which can require a separate commercial license from Oracle for some commercial use cases.
