From 6dbecda7d5ba5d4435c9db8c017f10b8c1063194 Mon Sep 17 00:00:00 2001 From: HeavyGee <133152184+heavygee@users.noreply.github.com> Date: Thu, 15 Oct 2026 09:47:22 +0000 Subject: [PATCH 1/4] feat(tooling): tracked flaky-test quarantine (cli, vitest-wired) MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=UTF-8 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit Operator-directed: flaky tests were adjudicated one red light at a time, costing a week on PR #222 (iOS app-build, 3 different failures, #273) and tripping the #270 remat gate (agentCliGuard.test.ts, #274). A tolerated red teaches everyone red doesn't mean red. config/flaky-quarantine.yaml is the single source of truth both the remat gate and CI consult (scripts/tooling/flaky-quarantine-gate.sh). Three rules: known id + matching failure signature excuses; a DIFFERENT signature under the same id blocks (closes most of the "new bug in the same test" gap); an expired entry excuses nothing. A ceiling on active entries (default 8) fails the gate independent of test outcomes once exceeded. Wired for cli (vitest JSON reporter -> adapter -> check) in both hapi-driver-rebuild.sh --verify and .github/workflows/test.yml (fork-only; upstream keeps plain `bun run test`). The iOS xcodebuild-log adapter is built and proven against the real PR #222 failure logs but NOT wired into ios.yml/test-transcript.sh yet — no macOS runner available here to verify the shell integration; wiring it blind risked turning a flake into a hard break on a live gating workflow. scripts/tooling/flaky-quarantine.test.sh fires three negative controls (matching signature excuses, mismatched signature blocks, expired entry blocks) plus schema/ceiling checks, picked up automatically by the existing tooling-tests CI job. via HAPI (https://hapi.run) Co-Authored-By: HAPI --- .github/workflows/test.yml | 12 +- config/flaky-quarantine.yaml | 96 ++++++++ docs/tooling/flaky-quarantine.md | 101 ++++++++ scripts/tooling/flaky-quarantine-gate.sh | 46 ++++ scripts/tooling/flaky-quarantine.mjs | 185 +++++++++++++++ scripts/tooling/flaky-quarantine.test.sh | 160 +++++++++++++ scripts/tooling/hapi-driver-rebuild.sh | 5 +- scripts/tooling/lib/flaky-quarantine-core.mjs | 224 ++++++++++++++++++ 8 files changed, 827 insertions(+), 2 deletions(-) create mode 100644 config/flaky-quarantine.yaml create mode 100644 docs/tooling/flaky-quarantine.md create mode 100644 scripts/tooling/flaky-quarantine-gate.sh create mode 100755 scripts/tooling/flaky-quarantine.mjs create mode 100755 scripts/tooling/flaky-quarantine.test.sh create mode 100644 scripts/tooling/lib/flaky-quarantine-core.mjs diff --git a/.github/workflows/test.yml b/.github/workflows/test.yml index 7231df20cf..71a46e2e77 100644 --- a/.github/workflows/test.yml +++ b/.github/workflows/test.yml @@ -24,7 +24,17 @@ jobs: # inspect alone does not pull; silent skip was fake B1 coverage (#1911). - run: docker pull mcr.microsoft.com/powershell:latest - run: bun run test:e2e -- terminal-wrap-fidelity.spec.ts composer-copy.spec.ts session-list-scroll.spec.ts cold-initial-tail.spec.ts scrollbar-auto-hide.spec.ts - - run: bun run test + # Fork: cli tests run through the flaky-quarantine gate (same + # script the local remat gate uses — config/flaky-quarantine.yaml + # is fork-only data, see docs/tooling/flaky-quarantine.md). + # Upstream/other forks: unchanged plain `bun run test`. + - name: Run tests + run: | + if [[ "${{ github.repository_owner }}" == "heavygee" ]]; then + bash scripts/tooling/flaky-quarantine-gate.sh "$PWD" + else + bun run test + fi # Fork has no windows-latest budget; cover the same file on Linux. - name: Codex MCP proxy unit (Linux stand-in for windows-codex-mcp) if: github.repository_owner == 'heavygee' diff --git a/config/flaky-quarantine.yaml b/config/flaky-quarantine.yaml new file mode 100644 index 0000000000..2f6029e558 --- /dev/null +++ b/config/flaky-quarantine.yaml @@ -0,0 +1,96 @@ +# Flaky-test quarantine registry — tracked, not ignored. +# +# FORK-ONLY DATA: these entries are fork-specific CI observations and issue +# links (heavygee/hapi). A warning nobody must + act on is exactly the mechanism that trained everyone to ignore red in the + first place, so a mismatch blocks rather than warns. +3. **An expired entry excuses nothing.** It is not a grace period — the + entry drops out of the active set, and the next failure under that id is + an ordinary blocking failure until someone renews (with a reason) or + removes it. + +Plus a **ceiling** (default 8) on the number of active entries: past it, the +gate fails regardless of whether today's tests pass, until the registry is +cleaned up. Added `--package PREFIX` to `check`, scoping both validation and excuse/block matching to that namespace; the ceiling stays deliberately whole-registry (validate), run as its own explicit step in flaky-quarantine-gate.sh. - The one live cli: entry's signature ("expected true to be false") was generic enough to also match a second, unrelated assertion two lines below in the same test — a real bug there would have been silently excused. Anchored the signature to the failing stack frame (agentCliGuard.test.ts:309:) instead; verified the real flake still excuses and a synthetic line-310 failure now correctly blocks. - Expiry had a sub-day off-by-one: an entry expired at the first instant of its `expires` date rather than at the end of it. Fixed to stay valid through the whole calendar day. - The new CI step's `gh issue view` (issue-must-be-open check) had no GH_TOKEN wired, unlike every other gh-using workflow in this repo — would have silently failed the gate on every run. Added the same GH_TOKEN/GITHUB_TOKEN pattern used elsewhere. Added a regression test for the cross-package fix (an ios: schema error no longer fails a --package cli check; unscoped validate still catches it) and a direct verification of the expiry boundary. via HAPI (https://hapi.run) Co-Authored-By: HAPI <noreply@hapi.run> --- .github/workflows/test.yml | 10 +++++ config/flaky-quarantine.yaml | 21 ++++++++++- scripts/tooling/flaky-quarantine-gate.sh | 15 +++++++- scripts/tooling/flaky-quarantine.mjs | 27 +++++++++++--- scripts/tooling/flaky-quarantine.test.sh | 37 +++++++++++++++++++ scripts/tooling/lib/flaky-quarantine-core.mjs | 6 ++- 6 files changed, 106 insertions(+), 10 deletions(-) diff --git a/.github/workflows/test.yml b/.github/workflows/test.yml index 71a46e2e77..3e94eb4e4a 100644 --- a/.github/workflows/test.yml +++ b/.github/workflows/test.yml @@ -29,6 +29,16 @@ jobs: # is fork-only data, see docs/tooling/flaky-quarantine.md). # Upstream/other forks: unchanged plain `bun run test`. - name: Run tests + env: + # flaky-quarantine.mjs validate/check shell out to `gh issue + # view` to confirm a quarantine entry's issue is still open + # (requirement: a closed-issue entry must fail loudly, not + # sit there forever). A location-only anchor (this session's own prior fix) could still mis-excuse a genuinely different failure that happens to throw from the same line; the live cli: entry now requires both. - Reject day-overflow dates (2026-02-30 normalizes to 2026-03-02 under plain `new Date()` instead of failing) via a round-trip check. - Make quarantine test fixtures independent of wall-clock expiry — they used the same near-term dates as the real registry, so every "currently active" scenario (including the ceiling fixture) would silently flip to expired/inactive on 2026-10-30 and permanently redden the tooling-tests CI job. Dates are now computed relative to the actual test run. - Honor an inherited $BUN instead of bare `bun`/`bunx` throughout the gate script; hapi-driver-rebuild.sh now passes it through explicitly (it was never exported, so the previous refactor into a separate script silently dropped a custom bun path despite the rebuild script itself resolving it via "${BUN:-$HOME/.bun/bin/bun}"). - Reject partially-numeric issue/renewal_count values (parseInt("27O") === 27) — now requires the entire scalar to match integer syntax. - Parse every quarantine list item regardless of field order: only a literal `- id:` line started an entry before, so `id` reordered or misspelled silently dropped the whole entry instead of raising a schema error. - Default issue-open check now derives the repo from the `origin` git remote (overridable with --repo) instead of hardcoding heavygee/hapi, matching the module's own "generic mechanism" header. Six new regression tests cover all of the above; full suite now 16/16. Re-verified end-to-end against the real registry, the real PR #222/#270 captured failures, and a full gate run on the driver tree. via HAPI (https://hapi.run) Co-Authored-By: HAPI <noreply@hapi.run> --- config/flaky-quarantine.yaml | 39 +++-- scripts/tooling/flaky-quarantine-gate.sh | 24 +++- scripts/tooling/flaky-quarantine.mjs | 41 +++++- scripts/tooling/flaky-quarantine.test.sh | 133 +++++++++++++++--- scripts/tooling/hapi-driver-rebuild.sh | 2 +- scripts/tooling/lib/flaky-quarantine-core.mjs | 87 ++++++++++-- 6 files changed, 269 insertions(+), 57 deletions(-) diff --git a/config/flaky-quarantine.yaml b/config/flaky-quarantine.yaml index f4a541e02d..ab7c4dd956 100644 --- a/config/flaky-quarantine.yaml +++ b/config/flaky-quarantine.yaml @@ -41,11 +41,19 @@ # not just present) — a quarantined test whose issue is # closed is either fixed or abandoned, and both deserve to # fail loudly again, not sit here forever. -# signature - a stable substring of the known failure text. A quarantined test with a known-signature failure plus a second, different message (multiple expect.soft() failures is a real shape already used in cli/src/agent/permissionJson.test.ts) now blocks on the second message instead of being excused by the first. - Start a YAML list item on ANY `- <key>:` marker, not only known field names — `- iid: "..."` (typo'd id) now still creates an entry (which then correctly raises "id is required") instead of silently discarding the whole item and everything indented under it. - Distinguish "renewal_count absent" (defaults to 0, fine) from "present but malformed" (now a schema error) — coerceField returns an {invalid} marker instead of collapsing both cases to the same default. - Reject a future `added` date — a year typo (2099 vs 2026) previously still satisfied the 14-day added/expires window and the entry read as currently active. - Reject an empty " && "-joined signature clause (trailing delimiter, or an all-whitespace clause) — message.includes('') is true for every message, so an empty clause silently excused anything under that id. matchesSignature also defends against this directly, independent of validation having run first. Six new regression tests cover all of the above (22/22 total), including one against the REAL vitest collection-error JSON captured from a live `import of a nonexistent module` run, not just synthetic fixtures. Re-verified end-to-end against the real registry and the real PR #222/#270 captured failures with the new messages[] shape. via HAPI (https://hapi.run) Co-Authored-By: HAPI <noreply@hapi.run> --- scripts/tooling/flaky-quarantine.mjs | 44 +++++++-- scripts/tooling/flaky-quarantine.test.sh | 94 +++++++++++++++++-- scripts/tooling/lib/flaky-quarantine-core.mjs | 72 +++++++++++--- 3 files changed, 182 insertions(+), 28 deletions(-) diff --git a/scripts/tooling/flaky-quarantine.mjs b/scripts/tooling/flaky-quarantine.mjs index 7cb28c2d6e..d5bd5a54f2 100755 --- a/scripts/tooling/flaky-quarantine.mjs +++ b/scripts/tooling/flaky-quarantine.mjs @@ -164,7 +164,9 @@ function runCheck() { console.error(` BLOCKING: ${b.id} — ${b.reason}`); if (b.expectedSignature) { console.error(` expected signature: ${JSON.stringify(b.expectedSignature)}`); - console.error(` actual message: ${JSON.stringify((b.message ??
