THE STORY.
The argument is the order of the cards: a Ghostyle works on the face it
was drawn on, fails on a second, is redrawn and works, fails on a third,
is recoloured and works. It is not a gallery of successes, and it must
not become one. The one cream card is the Ghostyle as an object: the
thing that travels from face to face.
EVERY READING BELOW IS A REAL MEASUREMENT, taken with
node scripts-dev/lab-capture.cjs render --baseline <photo> --ghostyle <id> --output <dazzled>
node scripts-dev/lab-capture.cjs measure --baseline <photo> --dazzled <dazzled>
and typed in by hand. There is no data file behind this and there
should not be one: the cards are chosen, not generated. The readings,
all against the lab's threshold of 0.58:
naomiwu Ghostyle 1 no face found card 2
balotelli Ghostyle 1 0.33 still recognised card 5
balotelli Ghostyle 2 no face found card 6
greta Ghostyle 1 0.52 still recognised card 8
greta Ghostyle 3 0.61 escaped card 9
Measure first and write the captions afterwards. If a reading changes,
the caption changes shape with it; it does not keep the sentence and
swap the number.
THE METER. A card that carries a reading also carries a .story__meter:
the threshold tick, the reading dot, and the verdict in words. The
numbers live in two places on purpose, the style="--reading" attribute
that places the dot and the text that a reader or a screen reader gets,
so change both. The modifier is the verdict:
story__meter--matched reading below the threshold, pink dot
story__meter--escaped reading at or above it, yellow dot
story__meter--lost no face found: striped bar, no dot, no number
The carousel opens on card 2, so a reader who never swipes still gets
the whole proposition, and one who swipes twice gets the failure and
the repair. See pages-js/story.js.
