Three probes, stacked. Commits 1–3 are D-CE64-TIME-0; commits 4–5 add the other two.

D-CE64-TIME-0 — CausalEdge64 survives a cycle

One declared MailboxSoA edges row (cycle-gated write_row, carried across tick(), read through MailboxSoaView) is the only cross-cycle state. Folds use the shipped CausalEdge64::learn over a per-cycle SupportLedger. The next-cycle reading is the #1370 law, moved unchanged to examples/shared/affordance_law.rs.

Eligibility over cycles 0..3: OBS, OBS, OBS|STRATIFY, OBS (accumulation, then certification, then contradiction). 10 tests, 9 disable runs red. The finding is ISS-NO-EVIDENCE-WRITER-FOR-EPISTEMIC-STATE: nothing in production writes bits 59..63 from evidence.

D-CE64-NEXTSTATE-0 — sparse next-state register

ce64_nextstate_probe, 6 tests, 7 disable runs red.

  • Only bits 59..63 move, checked for all 32 codes.
  • The write crosses write_row → tick → view.
  • The mailbox does not double-buffer. Next-cycle authority is a read discipline.
  • LE round trip and restart both hold.
  • The shipped with_spare + with_truth compile to bzhi; shl; or, so no new 5-bit writer is added.

Production change: CausalEdge64::to_le_bytes / from_le_bytes (mirroring EpisodicEdges64), plus the register contract on the type.

D-ANCESTRY-K1-0 — what .claude/v3 says, against the code

Git history is shallow at #1327, so this rests on the code and the board. The v3 ladder Φ StreamDto → Ψ PerturbationDto → B BusDto was meant to close a loop:

  • EmitMode::Persist names the row;
  • persist_cycle writes emitted_edges[0];
  • the mailbox-thoughtspace shim reads it on the next dispatch.

It was never closed at either end:

  • ingress wrote only the BindSpace singleton, which the SoA supersedes;
  • the driver owned its mailbox read-only, and run() is &self.

Path B (intended, not completed). Full map and per-DTO classification: entries/2026-10-06-streamdto-circuit-ancestry.md.

D-STREAMDTO-0 — a real StreamDto to next-cycle eligibility, on the SoA

Production changes, both at the SoA boundary; no new DTO, scheduler or temporal type; StreamDto and the #1370 law are untouched:

  • engine_bridge::ingest_codebook_indices_soa: a StreamDto's fields go straight into the owner's MailboxSoA through the cycle-gated write_row. It shares the per-index encoding with the singleton arm, so the two cannot drift.
  • ShaderDriver::mailbox_mut: the owner's write-back route.

streamdto_circuit_probe, 6 tests, plus 1 default-feature lib test; 9 disable runs red. The path, with BindSpace off it:

  1. StreamDto → SoA;
  2. dispatch k;
  3. emitted_edges[0] written to persisted_row;
  4. tick;
  5. dispatch k+1 reads the edge, and its output changes.

Measured limits:

  • The edge steers k+1 only through s_idx / 4. F/C are revised and discarded, and bits 59..63 are never read. A write-back into block 0 is invisible to k+1, and so is one into a block whose self-hit carries the same predicates.
  • The shader writes code 0, so D-GSO-AFF-0: recipe eligibility as a measurement over CausalEdge64 #1370 eligibility is unchanged by the circuit: 0x20, the same as an unwritten word. Code 7 written into the same row gives 0x24.
  • StreamDto::timestamp is the caller's number, not the cycle, and cycle_index never reaches the edge (v2 drops pack's temporal).
  • Restart from LE bytes reproduces k+1.

Residue: CognitiveShaderBuilder still requires a BindSpace on the mailbox arm (W7).

CI: new feature-gated step. w2_differential and the new probe were never run by the default-feature job.

ce64_cycle_survival_probe: one MailboxSoA edges row (cycle-gated write_row +
tick) is the only cross-cycle state. Each cycle folds observations with the
shipped CausalEdge64::learn (NARS revision of F/C), counts distinct sources in
a per-cycle SupportLedger (dropped at cycle end), settles the EpistemicState5
code and writes the register back. The next cycle measures eligibility with
the #1370 law, moved unchanged to examples/shared/affordance_law.rs.

Eligibility over cycles 0..3: OBS, OBS, OBS|STRATIFY, OBS: accumulation
without certification, certification read by the next cycle, contradiction
read by the next cycle. F1-F7 tests; 1000 folds from one source never
certify; sources split across cycles never combine (missing state, pinned).
9 tests, 7 disable runs red.

The EpistemicState5 step (code 3 <-> 7) is probe-declared: learn() never
writes bits 59..63 and no production writer from evidence exists. Recorded as
ISS-NO-EVIDENCE-WRITER-FOR-EPISTEMIC-STATE.

Board: D-ALPHA-G-0 and D-WA-0 Shipped (#1372); D-CE64-TIME-0 row; ISSUES
entry; inventory entry; entries index.

📝 Walkthrough

Walkthrough

The change adds a CausalEdge64 cycle-survival probe, shares the affordance-law implementation with an existing probe, and records observed behavior and limitations in the project board.

Changes

CE64 cycle-survival probe

Layer / File(s) Summary
Shared affordance law
crates/cognitive-shader-driver/examples/shared/affordance_law.rs, crates/cognitive-shader-driver/examples/affordance_measurement_probe.rs
The shared module defines epistemic-state mappings, recipe rules, compiled eligibility tables, and measurement. The existing probe imports these definitions instead of retaining its local implementation.
Cycle folding and eligibility
crates/cognitive-shader-driver/examples/ce64_cycle_survival_probe.rs
The probe learns folds into a register, counts distinct sources in a cycle-local ledger, conditionally settles the epistemic code, and optionally writes the register to a mailbox row. Tests cover persistence, eligibility, replay, and cross-cycle evidence limits.
Probe registration and findings
crates/cognitive-shader-driver/Cargo.toml, crates/cognitive-shader-driver/examples/README.md, .claude/board/ISSUES.md, .claude/board/STATUS_BOARD.md, .claude/board/entries/2026-10-06-ce64-cycle-survival.md, .claude/board/entries/README.md
The example is registered to run as a test and documented. Board entries record probe results, mark two items Shipped, and describe the missing production evidence transition and cross-cycle source identity.

This change adds an example probe and board documentation. The only remaining problem is that one new status-board row renders truncated because of an unescaped pipe character. Escape it before or after merging; no runtime behavior is affected.

…aView (#1373)

The register row is declared with set_populated before seeding, and every
cycle reads it back through the production MailboxSoaView lens
(n_rows-guarded edges_raw), so what survives is a live mailbox row rather
than backing storage. New test: written-but-undeclared bytes are not a
register. 10 tests, 9 disable runs red.

… mailbox

D-CE64-NEXTSTATE-0 (ce64_nextstate_probe, 6 tests, 7 disable runs red):
EpistemicState5 is a sparse 5-bit next-state mutation; the shipped
with_spare + with_truth already compile to bzhi/shl/or, so no new writer.
Adds CausalEdge64::to_le_bytes / from_le_bytes (mirroring EpisodicEdges64)
and the register contract on the type.

D-ANCESTRY-K1-0: from .claude/v3 first, then code (history is shallow at
#1327). The v3 ladder StreamDto -> PerturbationDto -> BusDto was meant to
close a loop: EmitMode::Persist names the row, persist_cycle writes
emitted_edges[0], the mailbox-thoughtspace shim reads it next dispatch.
It was never closed: the driver owned its mailbox read-only and run() is
&self. Path B.

D-STREAMDTO-0 (streamdto_circuit_probe, 6 tests, 6 disable runs red):
adds ShaderDriver::mailbox_mut, the smallest completion. A real StreamDto
goes through ingest, dispatch k, write-back via write_row, tick, and
dispatch k+1, which reads the edge and changes. Measured limits: the edge
steers k+1 only through s_idx / 4; the shader writes code 0, so #1370
eligibility is unchanged by the circuit; timestamp is not the cycle.
Ingress into the mailbox has no production arm (new ISSUES entry).

CI: adds a feature-gated step; w2_differential and the new probe were
never run by the default-feature job.

@AdaWorldAPI AdaWorldAPI changed the title D-CE64-TIME-0: CausalEdge64 as the register that survives a cycle CE64 across cycles: D-CE64-TIME-0, D-CE64-NEXTSTATE-0, D-STREAMDTO-0 (close the k→k+1 circuit) Oct 6, 2026
BindSpace is superseded by the SoA, so the StreamDto ingress gets its SoA
arm instead of being mirrored from the singleton:
engine_bridge::ingest_codebook_indices_soa writes the fields into the
owner's MailboxSoA through the cycle-gated write_row, grows populated,
and shares the per-index fingerprint encoding with the singleton arm
(codebook_index_fingerprint), so the two cannot drift.

The probe now goes StreamDto -> SoA -> dispatch k -> write-back -> tick ->
dispatch k+1 with BindSpace off the path; the singleton arm is only the
parity oracle. The builder still requires a BindSpace on the mailbox arm
(W7 residue, noted). New default-feature lib test for the SoA arm; 9
disable runs red across probe and lib test. ISS-STREAMDTO-INGEST-WRITES-
THE-SINGLETON-ONLY resolved.
