The study tests two alternative pairs, not a three-member consortium. Biofilm/suspension removal, riboflavin add-back, spectroscopy and metabolite profiles support compartment-associated electron-transfer models, not exclusively contact-dependent DIET or donor-resolved hydrogen/formate flux. Diffusible riboflavin cannot itself establish direct contact. Daily apparent compartment contributions may exceed 100% and are not cumulative mass-balanced flux. Product gain does not establish obligatory syntrophy or reciprocal fitness. Retain the three existing nodes and two bounded PARTIAL route-to-output arrows, use canonical taxa, and clarify the shared output roster represents alternative pairs. Keep cell voltage distinct from referenced cathode potential and open-circuit H2/CO2 controls distinct from driven N2/CO2 conditions. No new causal structure required.
