- Line 263: Update the XKB_DEFAULT_LAYOUT check in the layout-detection flow to
return only when the environment variable has a nonempty value; allow an empty
value to continue to system detection.
- Line 293: Update the layout check in the `localectl status` handling so empty
values, `n/a`, and `(unset)` are all treated as missing before deciding whether
to read `/etc/default/keyboard`; do not export either placeholder as an XKB
layout.

Fall back when localectl reports the layout as unset
For the Debian/Ubuntu-style path this fallback targets, a valid /etc/default/keyboard can coexist with no systemd-localed X11 property, in which case localectl status reports X11 Layout: (unset) (the localectl documentation describes status as showing the current system keyboard mapping). The parser stores that literal sentinel, so this condition skips the file fallback, and isUsable() later rejects it; consequently no XKB_DEFAULT_LAYOUT is exported and linuxfb still defaults to US. Treat (unset) as missing before deciding whether to read the file.

Good catch, fixed in 626b6a0. Values from localectl are now only accepted when usable ((unset) / n/a / empty are rejected), so the /etc/default/keyboard fallback is reached and nothing is exported when no layout can be determined.

Forward XKB overrides through both pkexec relaunches
When the user's session already provides XKB_DEFAULT_LAYOUT (and variant/model/options), the normal locked launch reaches this check only in the elevated child. Both pkexec builders at lines 575-585 and 616-630 omit all XKB variables; pkexec(1) states that PROGRAM receives “a minimal known and safe environment”, so those overrides are stripped. The child then reads the machine-wide layout instead of honoring the explicit session override, so forward all four variables in both relaunches.

Done in 626b6a0: all four XKB_DEFAULT_* variables are now forwarded through both pkexec relaunches, so an explicit session-provided override is preserved for the elevated process (no-op when the variable is unset).

Can you move this to the v2 branch? We are currently working on releasing v2. |

V1 my bad. |
The barebones VT switches Qt to the "linuxfb" platform. Its keyboard handlers (libinput/xkbcommon, or the evdev fallback) do not read the layout configured for the desktop session, so xkbcommon falls back to its built-in "us" default and an azerty session ends up with a qwerty keyboard. Detect the configured layout (localectl, falling back to /etc/default/keyboard) and export XKB_DEFAULT_LAYOUT/VARIANT/MODEL/OPTIONS before the QPA platform is initialized.
Address review feedback: - Only skip detection when XKB_DEFAULT_LAYOUT is set to a non-empty value; an empty override must still fall through to system detection. - Treat "(unset)" and "n/a" from localectl as absent so the /etc/default/keyboard fallback still runs (previously the placeholder suppressed the fallback and nothing was exported). - Forward XKB_DEFAULT_* through both pkexec relaunches so an explicit session-provided override is preserved for the elevated process.

@Jvr2022 The conflict you saw was a stale mergeability cache on the GitHub side, not a real one. When the base moved to Reopening the PR forced a recomputation and it now reports MERGEABLE (a refresh on your side should show it). The diff is limited to |
