Why

Closed issues were hard to find, and grouping felt inconsistent with no way to measure a change before shipping it.

The Resolved tab filtered a page of the 50 most recently seen issues in the browser. When that page held only open issues, the tab rendered "Nothing resolved yet" with no "Load more", so older closed issues were unreachable. Done issues archived after 14 days never appeared anywhere in the UI.

What changed

API (v2 GET /error_issues): three new optional params:

  • state=open|closed: open is the same set as actionable; closed is verifying, done, cancelled and wontfix.
  • search: case-insensitive match on type, message, label and service. The backend already supported this; it was only exposed to the MCP tool.
  • include_archived=true.

Web /errors

  • Tabs are now Open / Closed / All, and the server narrows each one, so paging reaches every match.
  • Old view=triage, view=active and view=resolved links still decode and land on the matching tab.
  • New debounced search box, stored in the URL as ?q=, with its own empty state.
  • The stat strip keeps error events and their share of spans. The toolbar count now says "issues", so it no longer reads like the event count above it.

Local testing

  • bun run errors:tick fires the alerting minute cron (errors tick and fix verification) on a local stack instead of waiting a minute.
  • bun run errors:replay [--file sample] groups a sample of error events two ways: with today's fingerprint and with a proposed v3 in scripts/errors-replay/candidate.ts. It checks that the TS mirror matches production hashes and lists the largest merges so you can look for false positives.
  • Nothing in production uses the v3 proposal. The script header has the export query.
  • Both commands are documented in docs/error-issue-lifecycle.md.

Replay results (one week of our own org)

Sample Issues today v3 Issues v3 would split
Top 100 by volume 67 51 (−24%) 0
Long tail, 400 fingerprints 400 252 (−37%) 0

The TS mirror matched production hashes exactly on both samples. Shipping v3 is a separate change.

Testing

  • New backend tests: closed issues page past newer open ones and into the archive; search is case-insensitive and treats % literally.
  • Typecheck passes for domain, backend, api and web. The OpenAPI, fingerprint and v2 resource tests pass.
  • Checked in /lab/errors: tabs, search, the search empty state and the Closed tab.
  • Not checked: the live /errors page against a running API, and errors:tick against a live stack.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Search issues by exception type, message, or service name, with options to clear the search or search across all issues.
    • Filter issues by Open, Closed, or All, and include archived issues in applicable views.
  • Updates
    • Issue views now use Open, Closed, and All instead of Triage, Active, and Resolved. Existing links to older views continue to resolve.
    • The issue list heading now says “Issue.” Error summaries label totals as “error events”; affected service and trace counts are no longer shown.
  • Documentation
    • Added local testing instructions for the error issue lifecycle.

…rrors:replay

The Resolved tab filtered a mixed page of the 50 most recently seen issues in
the browser, so it rendered empty, with no "Load more", whenever that page was
all open issues. Done issues archived after 14 days never showed at all.

- v2 GET /error_issues takes `state=open|closed`, `search` and
`include_archived`; the web list asks the server for exactly its view.
- Tabs are Open / Closed / All (old `view` values still decode). Closed holds
verifying, done, cancelled and wontfix, archived ones included.
- A debounced search box (`?q=`) over type, message, label and service.
- The stat strip keeps error events and their share of spans; the toolbar
  counts issues.
- `bun run errors:tick` fires the alerting minute cron on a local stack.
- `bun run errors:replay` groups a sample of error events with today's
fingerprint and a proposed v3, checks parity against production hashes,
  and lists the largest merges.

🟢 Confidence 7/10 · likely safe to merge
Backend narrowing is pinned by new tests; the web side of the search (unbounded ?q=) is what needs the careful look.
quality 90/100 · 1 warning · tests partial · risk medium

Moves the Open/Closed narrowing, issue search and archived inclusion server-side in v2 GET /error_issues, and adds two local dev scripts. The backend changes are sound; the web passes the search term through unbounded, which the new API cap rejects.

Findings

🟠 Warning · F1 · ?q= is sent unbounded although the API caps search at 200 characters

correctness · apps/web/src/components/errors/errors-hub.tsx:145

props.search comes straight from the q search param (apps/web/src/routes/errors/index.tsx:40 declares it as a bare Schema.String) and is forwarded as search with no length limit, while V2ErrorIssueListQuery validates search with Schema.isMaxLength(200) (packages/domain/src/http/v2/error-issues.ts:163). Pasting a whole log line or stack message into the new search box therefore fails the request at the API boundary and the page falls back to its error state instead of a result list. Clamp the term where the query is built, as the route schema cannot reject it without throwing on the page.

			...(props.search ? { search: props.search.slice(0, 200) } : undefined),

📝 Walkthrough

The errors hub now supports Open, Closed, and All views, URL-backed search, and archived-issue filtering. The API and read model accept the corresponding list filters. New local scripts trigger error processing and compare current and candidate fingerprint groupings.

Changes: Error issue listing

Layer / File(s) Summary
Issue-list filters and API
packages/domain/src/http/v2/error-issues.ts, packages/backend/src/services/errors/ErrorIssueReadModelsService.ts, packages/backend/src/services/errors/ErrorIssueReadModelsService.test.ts, apps/api/src/routes/v2/error-issues.http.ts, apps/ios/Packages/MapleAPI/Sources/MapleAPI/openapi.json
The list query accepts state, search, and archived-issue filters. The read model applies open and closed state groups. Tests cover filtering, ordering, and literal case-insensitive search. The OpenAPI document lists the query parameters.
Hub views and query state
apps/web/src/lib/errors/hub-params.ts, apps/web/src/routes/errors/..., apps/web/src/components/errors/errors-hub.tsx
The route maps legacy view values to current views and passes URL search to the hub. The hub sends view, search, and archive filters with list requests.
Search and issue-list presentation
apps/web/src/components/errors/errors-hub-view.tsx, apps/web/src/components/errors/error-signal-row.tsx, apps/web/src/components/errors/errors-stat-strip.tsx, apps/web/src/lab/errors-lab.tsx
The hub adds toolbar search and search-specific empty states. The fixture view filters signals by search. Summary labels use “error events,” and the service and trace counts are removed.

Local error evaluation tools

Layer / File(s) Summary
Candidate fingerprint construction
scripts/errors-replay/candidate.ts
The replay-only candidate key normalizes stack frames and messages, then combines them with service and exception identifiers. The current key uses existing fingerprint inputs.
Fingerprint replay comparison
scripts/errors-replay.ts, scripts/errors-replay/corpus.jsonl
The CLI compares current and candidate issue groupings and reports count changes, merges, and splits. The bundled corpus contains 18 sample records.
Local error-processing setup
scripts/errors-tick.ts, package.json, docs/error-issue-lifecycle.md
The tick script sends a scheduled request to the alerting Worker. Package scripts expose the tick and replay commands, and lifecycle documentation describes local testing steps.

… errors:tick runs

The iOS OpenAPI check failed on the new list params. A pasted log line longer
than the API's 200-char search cap now clamps instead of failing the page. The
minute cron also runs the alert and escalation lanes; the script and doc say so.

Maple review

🟢 Confidence 8/10 · likely safe to merge
The q clamp now matches the v2 cap, and the closed/open state sets line up on both sides; the web search and tab behavior carries no test.
quality 100/100 · no findings · tests partial · risk medium

Moves the /errors Open/Closed/All narrowing and free-text search server-side, adds state/search/include_archived to v2 GET /error_issues, and gives the search term a shared length cap. The earlier unbounded ?q= finding is fixed and I found nothing new in the files changed since the last review; the regenerated iOS spec only mirrors the new query fields.

  • v2 GET /error_issues accepts state=open|closed, search and include_archived
  • /errors tabs become Open/Closed/All, each narrowed by the server
  • hubViewOf remaps legacy view=triage|active|resolved links onto the new tabs
  • The hub slices q to ERROR_ISSUE_SEARCH_MAX_LENGTH before sending search

Fixed since the last review

  • ✅ F1 · ?q= is sent unbounded although the API caps search at 200 characters
What was checked
  • ?q= is clamped to the shared 200-char cap at apps/web/src/components/errors/errors-hub.tsx:147, which is the cap V2ErrorIssueListQuery enforces
  • The server's closed set (ErrorIssueReadModelsService.ts:61) and the client's VIEW_STATES.closed (errors-hub-view.tsx:79) hold the same four states, so the Closed tab drops no rows
  • No stale ACTIONABLE_VIEWS, HUB_VIEWS or view=triage|active|resolved references remain at the head; hubViewOf covers every legacy value
