[None][fix] Anthropic Messages: sign the thinking blocks the server generates - #20866
The adapter adds thinking_signature(thinking: str), which returns a base64-encoded SHA-256 digest. Non-streamed thinking blocks include the digest in signature. Streamed thinking blocks start with an empty signature and emit the digest in a final signature_delta before content_block_stop. If a stream ends or errors while a thinking block is open, the adapter signs the block before closing it or emitting the error. The server does not verify signatures during replay. Current review findings and definitive test-run results are unavailable.
QA Engineer Review
tests/unittest/llmapi/apps/test_anthropic_adapter.py adds tests for non-streamed signatures, streamed signature ordering and initial signature state, stream truncation, stream errors, and separate signatures for multiple blocks. The test file is listed in tests/integration/test_lists/test-db/l0_cpu.yml. Coverage verdict: sufficient for the stated signature behavior.
Per-File QA Perspective
tensorrt_llm/serve/anthropic_adapter.py: Verify signatures use each thinking block’s complete text. Verify streamed blocks emit the signature before content_block_stop, including on stream-end and error paths.
tests/unittest/llmapi/apps/test_anthropic_adapter.py: Covers signature values, placement, block separation, and open-block closure on stream end or error. Listed in the CI test list tests/integration/test_lists/test-db/l0_cpu.yml.
Description
/v1/messages returns thinking blocks without a signature, streamed or not. Anthropic clients replay a thinking block in later turns only together with its signature. The pi coding agent turns an unsigned thinking block into a text block, so the model then reads its own reasoning back as an answer it gave, and the replayed history no longer matches what the model generated.
This PR signs every thinking block the server generates with the base64 SHA-256 digest of its text:
in the non-streamed message, the block's signature field;
in the stream, a signature_delta as the block's last delta before content_block_stop, where Anthropic sends it.
The signature proves nothing and the server does not check it on replay. Anthropic's signature is an encrypted proof of origin; this one exists so that thinking round-trips as thinking. Claude Code, which already kept unsigned blocks, keeps signed ones the same way.
Test Coverage
tests/unittest/llmapi/apps/test_anthropic_adapter.py (CPU, already in l0_cpu.yml) gains these tests:
the non-streamed thinking block carries the digest of its text;
the streamed thinking block ends with its signature_delta, and only thinking blocks are signed;
a thinking block still open when the stream ends is signed;
each of two thinking blocks is signed with its own text.
On main the four new tests fail and the 87 existing ones pass.
End to end: an A/B on one GB300 node with Qwen3-30B-A3B and the pi coding agent 1.4.0: main at 9bb7931 against the same main with this change (plus the other fixes from the same run), both from the same precompiled CI build, so they differ only in Python. pi over Anthropic Messages: on main pi sent the model's earlier reasoning back as text in 4 of 5 calls (greedy tasks) and 6 replies (default tasks); with the change every thinking block came back as a signed thinking block. Claude Code 2.1.289 already kept unsigned blocks, and keeps signed ones unchanged.

Walkthrough
The Anthropic adapter adds Base64-encoded SHA-256 signatures to non-streaming thinking blocks. For streaming blocks, it accumulates thinking text and emits a signature delta before the block-stop event.
The adapter adds thinking_signature and includes its result in non-streaming thinking blocks. Tests check the signature and its presence in serialized output.
The reframer accumulates thinking text and emits a signature delta before the thinking block stop event. Tests cover block opening, multiple blocks, stream truncation, and errors.
The signature fields, stream closure behavior, and stream-error coverage are addressed for this change.

Include an empty signature when opening a thinking block.
When _ensure_block opens a thinking block, it leaves signature=None. The SSE serializer omits that field. The new signature_delta supplies the final value later, but a client that validates content_block_start against the thinking-block shape can reject the stream first. Set signature="" on the opening block; retain the final delta. Anthropic’s streaming example uses that opening shape. (platform.claude.com)

…n empty signature
A thinking block always has a signature field. The streamed block now opens
with it empty, and its last delta still sets the value.

@coderabbitai Agreed on the outside-diff comment at anthropic_adapter.py:818, fixed in 62ff4ff: a streamed thinking block now opens with "signature": "" in its content_block_start, and its last delta still carries the real signature. test_stream_thinking_block_opens_with_an_empty_signature covers it.
_close_block() now emits a signature_delta, and error() calls this method. The added tests cover normal finish() closure, but not a stream that fails while a thinking block is open. Add a test that opens a thinking block, calls reframer.error(...), and verifies signature_delta, content_block_stop, and the error event order.
As per path instructions, test each changed observable behavior on normal and error paths.

@coderabbitai Added in e61d324: test_stream_error_signs_the_open_thinking_block_before_the_error opens a thinking block, calls error(), and checks the last three events are the signature_delta for the block's text, its content_block_stop, then the error event.
