Summary

  • The first real deploy failed: carrel-app-demo could not read /etc/carrel-deployd/demo.start (directory is 0700). The start command now lives in /etc/carrel-app/<app>.start (0644, root owned), still outside carrel's control.
  • The workflow snippet packed app.tar.gz inside the tree it was packing, including .git. It now writes to $RUNNER_TEMP and excludes .git.

Test plan

  • go test ./internal/carrel on sandbox, sh -n on the install script
  • Re-run the install on apps-e2e and redeploy zyx1121/carrel-demo

🤖 Generated with Claude Code

The start file sat in the 0700 token directory, so carrel-app units
failed with permission denied. Move it to /etc/carrel-app (0644, root
owned) and pack the workflow artifact outside the source tree.
