Node facts fail on virtual machines without PCI devices #8225
Install NethServer 8 on a virtual machine that exposes a PCI (Peripheral Component Interconnect) bus with no device on it. Hyper-V generation 2 guests behave this way: lspci prints nothing while /proc/bus/pci exists.
Register the cluster with a subscription and wait for the inventory to be sent, or run api-cli run get-facts --agent node/1 as root on the leader node.
Open the system page on my.nethesis.it.
Expected behavior
The node facts are collected, with an empty device list, and the system page on my.nethesis.it shows host name, version and IP address of the node. If the facts collection of a node fails, the send-inventory service journal says so.
Actual behavior
The node facts action crashes with IndexError: list index out of range while parsing the empty device list. The inventory is still sent, but with no node data, so the system page on my.nethesis.it shows no host name, version or IP address. The send-inventory service journal is clean: the failed node task carries an empty output and is silently skipped. Seen on 56 of about 1600 NethServer 8 systems reporting to the portal.
Components
NethServer 8 core 3.23.0 and earlier (the parsing code dates back to the first releases).
