What does this change?

Disables Wi-Fi power saving while a cloud session is active and restores the previous setting afterward. Uses nl80211 directly from Zig.

Addresses #11.

How did you test it?

Tested on Miyoo Flip running SpruceOS 4.3.3. Confirmed the radio stops entering low-power mode during sessions and the original setting returns after cancellation, failure and graceful shutdown. Already-disabled power saving stays off.

All 453 tests and the ARM64 build passed. The 11 new tests also passed on the Flip.

Live gameplay remains unverified: both this build and unchanged v0.3.1 hit OfferTimeout before receiving video.

Summary by cubic

Disables Wi-Fi power saving while a cloud session is active and restores the previous setting afterward, so the radio no longer drops into low-power mode during streams. Addresses #11.

  • Talks to nl80211 directly from Zig; no external tools required.
  • Only disables power saving when it was previously enabled; if it was already off, it stays off.
  • Skips restoration if an interface was removed or replaced during the session.
  • Adds 11 tests for rollback, kernel error mapping, and malformed replies; the full test suite and ARM64 build pass.

Written for commit 6713c55. Summary will update on new commits.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • On Linux, Wi-Fi power saving is temporarily disabled on connected wireless interfaces during a session. Previously enabled settings are restored when the session ends. If an interface changes during the session, its replacement is not affected.

Walkthrough

The change adds Linux Wi-Fi power-save management through generic netlink. The guard disables enabled power save on eligible wireless interfaces when a game session starts and restores settings it changed during cleanup.

Changes

Linux Wi-Fi power-save session handling

Layer / File(s) Summary
Netlink protocol and reply handling
src/platform/linux/wifi_power_save.zig
Adds nl80211 discovery, generic-netlink request construction, response polling, and reply parsing with error mapping. Tests cover message encoding and response handling.
Guard ownership and restoration
src/platform/linux/wifi_power_save.zig
Adds Guard.begin and Guard.end. The guard records successful changes and restores them only when an interface name still maps to its recorded index. Tests cover rollback, interface replacement, restoration failures, and capacity limits.
Release session integration
src/app/release.zig, build.zig
Release begins the guard before starting a game session and ends it during cleanup. The host unit-test source list includes the guard tests.

Session startup may briefly delay loading feedback, and a crash can leave Wi-Fi power saving off until recovery. These are bounded risks rather than blockers to merging.

  • If rollback fails in wifi_power_save.zig, power saving can remain disabled without the interface being tracked for restoration. Keep the interface recoverable even when rollback fails.
  • restore in wifi_power_save.zig can enable power saving on a replacement interface if the kernel reuses its name and ifindex. Validate a stable interface identity before restoring.
  • In release.zig, a panic or SIGHUP can bypass restoration, and a later launch may not take ownership of an interface that is already disabled. Add a recovery path for interfaces left disabled after abnormal shutdown.

Minor · Stability & Availability · Quick win

Render the loading screen before the Wi-Fi probe.

Guard.begin() performs synchronous netlink requests with a 300 ms timeout. This call runs before drawLoading(), so a slow or non-responsive nl80211 path can leave the previous screen visible and delay cancellation feedback. Call drawLoading() first, then invoke self.wifi.begin(). (raw.githubusercontent.com)
