Proton VPN stuck on "Connecting" forever on Android 11 - all servers, all protocols #187

Proton VPN stuck on "Connecting" forever on Android 11 - all servers, all protocols

Hello,

I've been unable to connect to Proton VPN for a long time. The app stays on "Connecting" indefinitely on every server I try.

Device: Samsung Galaxy A40

Android: 11 / One UI 3.1

App: 5.19.99.0 from Play Store

Account: [free]

What I've tried:

- All protocols (WireGuard, Smart Protocol)

- Multiple servers in different countries

- Kill Switch on/off

- Reinstalled app, cleared cache/data

- Disabled Private DNS and IPv6

- Rebooted device

Important: Other VPNs work fine on the same device and network. Windscribe connects successfully, Tor VPN beta also works. This is Proton VPN-specific.

Also: I tried to contact support via email and the in-app report form, but both are currently broken/down.

Any help would be appreciated!

    Are you a dev elsewhere?

Also, Ive experienced this on both my S24 and the world's worst phone, the Samsung A17, but it usually occurs during a network switch on wifi, where the network hangs as proton is attenpting to re-establish it's tunnel. This hasnt happened after the latest update that i remember.

Here's what i would do as Im 88% sure this comes as a result of Samsung's elite One UI updates which have broken quite a few other functions:

    1. Create another VPN connection and rinse, wash, repeat. And Id even try this in the secure folder too. Dont turn on two of the same vpn's doing that or you'll have issues with secure connections.
    2. Take a deep look in your settings that may apply to your VPN connection, Samsung has added lots of stuff, and keep in mind google f*cking hates your VPN, and will stop at nothing to accidentally ruin any attempts at privacy.

If you have success Id be happy to let proton know, they think I know what I'm doing for whatever reason. 🤔😉

I have the same problem as yours, but I select tcp connect at wireguard and it still works, other types don't work

Same for me as well as of 8/29/26 @12:32PM EDT.  Is this a known issue and is there a fix in the works?

My problem is that I select Wireguard and click on TCP connect, then it works.
