Duplicate an existing SSH tab
Platform
Desktop App / Website
Is it related to an issue?
When working with an SSH session, it is often useful to quickly open a second terminal to the same host.
For example, one terminal may be running logs, monitoring commands, or a long-running process while another terminal is needed for additional administration.
Currently, there is no direct "Duplicate tab" action for an already opened SSH tab. To open another session to the same host, the user has to return to the host list and open it again.
Applications such as MobaXterm provide a "Duplicate tab/session" action directly from the current terminal tab, which makes this workflow much faster.
The Solution
Add a "Duplicate tab" action to the context menu of SSH tabs.
For example:
Right-click SSH tab
→ Duplicate tab
The duplicated tab should:
- use the same host/profile and connection settings as the original tab;
- create a new, independent SSH connection;
- leave the original session untouched;
- open the duplicated session in a new tab;
- automatically switch to the newly created tab.
The feature should duplicate the connection configuration of the tab, not the live shell state. It does not need to clone the current working directory, running processes, terminal history, or PTY state.
This would provide the same convenient workflow as the "Duplicate tab/session" functionality commonly used in SSH clients such as MobaXterm.
Additional Context
The current Termix 2.9 development code already appears to contain most of the functionality required for this.
AppShell.openTab() supports forceNewTab, allowing another instance of the same host to be opened instead of focusing the existing tab.
A "Duplicate tab" action could therefore expose this existing behavior directly from the SSH tab context menu.
