The maintainer moved differentiation with respect to a function from 3.1 to 2.8 on
2026-09-21 ("this should really be in 2.8 rather than 3.1"), which is the milestone for
design work tried before v3 so that v3 reviews it with the whole in view; the
milestones paragraph said the opposite.
