Every push and pull request started two workflows, Backend tests and Build Package / Package check, so the Actions list showed each event twice. A merge to main then repeated, as two more runs, what its pull request had just run.

Change

  • backend-tests.yml runs only through workflow_call (or by hand).
  • build-package.yml calls it as the rust job beside package: a push to main, testing-* or stable-* is one Build Package run with both jobs in parallel.
  • package-check.yml calls build-package.yml: a pull request is one Package check run with the same two jobs.
  • A Build Package run, the one the BigLinux builders act on, now succeeds only when the code's checks pass too, so code that fails Clippy or the tests is never handed to them.
  • README and docs/ci-workflows-audit.md describe it.

actionlint passes on the three workflows. This pull request shows the result: a single Package check run in the list.

Each push and pull request started two workflows, Backend tests and Build
Package (or Package check), so the Actions list showed every event twice,
and a merge to main repeated as two more runs what its pull request had
just run.

backend-tests.yml now runs only when called (or by hand). build-package.yml
calls it as a job beside the package, so a push is one "Build Package" run
and a pull request one "Package check" run, each with the code's checks
and the package in parallel. A Build Package run, the one the BigLinux
builders act on, now succeeds only when the code's checks pass too.
