Test run of the CodeRabbit config from ThinkFlowLab#38, inside my fork, so the config gets exercised before the upstream owners install the App.

Not meant to merge. What to look at in the review:

  • whether CodeRabbit applies the criteria in .claude/skills/review-pr/SKILL.md (evidence for every finding, a priority label, no style nits);
  • whether the per-path instructions in .coderabbit.yaml show up for .github/workflows/**, evals/**, tests/**, s1a/** and pyproject.toml (this PR touches none of them, so none should fire);
  • whether the config file itself is read without a schema warning.

The diff is the four files of ThinkFlowLab#38: .coderabbit.yaml, .claude/skills/review-pr/SKILL.md, CONTRIBUTING.md, CHANGELOG.md.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features

    • Added support for using a served Laya model with decision-making tools and browser agents.
    • Added a Snake demo that can connect to a System1-Omni backend, with interactive play, concurrent games, and replay exports.
    • Browser agents can use compacted state with Laya; decision timeouts are configurable.
  • Documentation

    • Added reproducible agent-use-case recipes and guidance for validation and demo evidence.
    • Added served Laya API and setup documentation.
  • Chores

    • Enabled automated reviews for eligible non-draft pull requests, excluding Dependabot. Reviews assess linked issues and can report up to five high-confidence findings.

Laya reads a 512 to 1024 token window, but the browser front sends
every model the same state it sends Jev: a JSON object per element
row, the full page text, and ten actions of history. On a real page
that state fills the window well before a single instruction token
is spent (docs/benchmarks.md shows 18,785-23,654 input tokens for
Jev on the Allrecipes run), which is why `--model laya` routinely
raises MODEL_SERVICE_CONFIG_ERROR on the browser front today.

laya_state() folds a browser-shaped state before every call to
LayaModel._decide: page.text dropped (the choice heads already carry
each candidate's own text; the free-form dump is for the chat
model's DONE answer, which Laya never writes), each element row
rendered as one short line instead of a JSON object, and the last
three actions kept instead of ten. On by default; anything that
isn't the browser front's shape passes through unchanged (the tool
front already fits). LAYA_COMPACT_BROWSER_STATE=0 turns it off.

34 unit tests (tests/test_decision_models_laya.py) cover the
compaction itself, its wiring into LayaModel, and the env-var
opt-out, all against FakeLayaAgent (no torch/weights needed). Full
suite run against main: identical 19 pre-existing failures before
and after this change (missing `ty` binary and other env-only gaps
in this sandbox, unrelated to decision_models/laya.py).

Not done here, and worth flagging: this closes the "state is bigger
than the window" gap, not the "is Laya's window, even filled,
actually fast enough end to end on a real page" question. That
needs the real convaiinnovations/laya checkpoint (uv sync --extra
laya), a live browser run, and a real latency number. See the PR
description for exact commands.

Laya fits a question's instruction and all its options into one head_max_len
budget (192 by default). The browser front's target options are JSON objects,
so a 23-element click head left each option about six tokens,
`12: {"element": "[`, and Laya never saw an element's name.

laya_browser_question rewrites each browser question when the state is folded:
the instruction becomes the goal and the operation (the agent's rules, 446
tokens, are dropped), and each target option becomes its element's label and
value. Docs and .env.example give the window a browser run needs
(LAYA_MAX_LEN=1536, LAYA_HEAD_MAX_LEN=1024) and the measured result: the stock
checkpoint still answers DONE at the first step on Google Flights.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
- text_value (a goal, no operation) was asked "Which operation comes next?".
The rewrite now keys on the head: operation, <op>_target, text_value
("Which value should be typed into the field?").
- Options cut to 28 characters could become identical (a result list, a
calendar); two options with the same text now keep their key in front.
- A blocked row kept only the letter B; it now keeps its overlay's name, the
link to the button that closes it.
- is_browser_state() names the check laya_state and _decide share, in place
  of the object-identity test.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
JevModel cut every decision at 5 s, a deadline sized for Jev (0.3 s). A local
System One server behind TYPESAFE_API_URL can be slower: on Google Flights,
OneJev-27B on an A100 takes about 3.7 s a decision and more on the calendar
page, so every run stopped at the eighth step. With 30 s it completed the
task with the same 11 actions as Jev.

S1A_DECISION_TIMEOUT_S sets the deadline; unset, it stays 5 s, so Jev is
unchanged. A value that is not a positive number is a config error. An
explicit timeout_s passed to JevModel.from_env still wins.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
float() reads nan, inf and 1e9999; nan passed the `<= 0` guard and made the deadline nan, inf removed the bound.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
…tate type guard

- laya_state reads the probe's string flags strictly: "false" no longer lights [X] or [C];
  click_did_nothing=True still does.
- A WAIT whose settle moved the page records page_changed=True; the fold adds "(no change)"
only when page_changed is False, not when it is None.
- is_browser_state is a TypeGuard, so ty narrows the state (the CI type check failed on it).
- docs/decision-models.md: a "Laya browser input shaping" heading.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
The model's answer reached a shell heredoc through a template expansion, so a prompt injected through a diff
could end the heredoc and run commands with a pull-requests:write token. It now travels as a file.

- Run on pull_request_target so fork pull requests get the token, without checking out or running their code.
- Only owners, members and collaborators can trigger a run with @ai-review.
- Send the review contract and focus areas to the model: the prompt file used to point at SKILL.md, which the
  model cannot open.
- Edit one comment in place instead of adding one per push; raise the token cap; one place for the model name;
  checkout@v7 without full history.
- Document the workflow in CONTRIBUTING.md and CHANGELOG.md.
…ow fixes

The review now gets the PR title, its description and the issues it closes next to the diff, and checks that the
change fixes what the issue describes, stays inside it and leaves nothing out. SKILL.md carries the same step.
Both texts are untrusted, like the diff.

- Job-level concurrency: the issue_comment runs the job skips no longer cancel a review in progress.
- Skip Dependabot pull requests, whose token has no models access.
- A diff the API will not return (over 20,000 lines or 300 files, or empty) gets a "not reviewed" comment instead
  of a failed job.
- Add the edited trigger, so a Closes #N added after the PR was opened reaches the review.
- A linked issue the job cannot read now says so in the context instead of leaving an empty body.
GitHub Models retired on 2026-07-30 and actions/ai-inference now needs the Copilot CLI and a Copilot token, so the
workflow had no model to call. It now runs scripts/ai_review.py, which posts to any OpenAI-compatible endpoint
(glm-4.7-flash on open.bigmodel.cn by default) with the review-pr skill as the system prompt. That drops the second
copy of the contract in the prompt file.

- The job is off until the secret AI_REVIEW_API_KEY is set; the base URL, model and extra request fields are variables.
- Retry rate limits and server errors; when the model still fails, comment that the PR was not reviewed and exit 0.
- Fence the PR text and the diff with a random delimiter, and say in the prompt that both are untrusted.
- Tests: the prompt, the cuts, the retry and failure paths against a local fake endpoint, and the comment markers.
GitHub Models retired on 2026-07-30, and a CI script that calls a model needs a paid key that someone has to hold.
CodeRabbit reviews public repositories for free and needs no secret, so it replaces the workflow, the script and
their tests.

- .coderabbit.yaml: review every non-draft pull request except Dependabot's, assess linked issues, and give each
area of the repository its own focus. The schema validates it.
- CodeRabbit reads .claude/skills/review-pr/SKILL.md and CONTRIBUTING.md as its review guidelines, so there is one
copy of the criteria; SKILL.md says which parts apply to CodeRabbit and which to a review run by hand.
- Remove .github/workflows/ai-review.yml, scripts/ai_review.py and tests/test_ai_review.py.
- Document the setup in CONTRIBUTING.md and CHANGELOG.md.
…e pyproject rule

- auto_pause_after_reviewed_commits: 0, so a PR with a long review cycle keeps getting reviewed on every push, as
CONTRIBUTING.md says. The default pauses after five.
- The pyproject.toml rule asked for every extra in EXTRAS, which only lists agents' extras, so a bump of the laya extra
would have been flagged. It now names the agent case.
- The rule no longer asks for uv.lock, which the review does not see (it is filtered out) and CI already checks.
path_filters also drives CodeRabbit's sparse checkout, so excluding docs/results/** left the archives that
docs/benchmarks.md cites out of the clone, and the evals rule (a number in a doc must match its record) could not
be checked. Only uv.lock and the generated, untracked result folders stay out.

Priority: ⬇️ Low

Estimated code review effort: 5 (Critical) | ~90 minutes

Merge Risk: 🟡 Moderate · up to b5a2c

Authenticated Snake runs cannot start, so add credential support before merging that workflow. The remaining findings affect temporary run metadata or a narrow recording edge case.

Security Architecture Review

Security architecture risk: 🟡 Moderate · up to b5a2c

The change introduces a network trust boundary and drops supplied instructions from some browser decisions. Existing action restrictions limit exposure, but instruction preservation, compatibility with protected servers, and server-side authorization need attention.

Retained concerns

  • Medium · security · inferred: The newly added, default-on browser compression replaces goal-bearing choice instructions with the goal and a short question, discarding supplied rules. Browser callers supply rules at this boundary, and the repository contains explicit guidance to treat page content as data rather than instructions. This creates an inferred instruction-preservation risk when such guidance is supplied: attacker-controlled page labels or values can influence selection without that guidance. Candidate and tool restrictions still constrain execution; no successful injection or arbitrary-tool bypass was demonstrated.
  • Low · security · observed: The new Snake HTTP client supplies no bearer credential path, although the documented backend supports requiring one. Its warm-up reaches the unauthenticated POST before play or recording, so a conforming protected backend rejects startup. This is authentication-control compatibility drift between clients, not evidence that authentication is bypassed or has been disabled.
Security review details

Security Blast Radius

  • inferred — The supported scope is decision data and browser actions within the invoking process or session, plus the configured backend and its credential. Page authors can influence browser-visible labels and values, but cannot thereby select a new HTTP endpoint or add arbitrary tools through the inspected interfaces. Tenant-wide, data-store, IAM, and production-environment exposure are not established.

Security Findings and Attack Paths

  • inferred — The instruction-preservation concern follows page-controlled labels or values through compressed decision input to an offered browser action. Dropping supplied rules can weaken semantic separation between page data and task authority, but remaining candidate checks bound the action space. No successful attack or additional privilege acquisition was verified.

Trust Boundaries and Controls

  • observed — MCP callers can select the new execution path and supply decision data, but destination and credential configuration remain process-controlled. The handler serializes calls and closes the selected client in finally. The transport does not visibly restrict credentialed requests to HTTPS or loopback; actual remote plaintext deployment is not evidenced.

Resilience and Maintainability Implications

  • observed — WAIT progress publication retains bounded settling and existing terminal guards rather than granting action authority. HTTP retries reuse a request ID and are bounded locally; the design declares inference side-effect-free, but server deduplication, interruption, and cleanup behavior are not verified.

Hardening Proposals

  • proposed — Preserve a compact trusted instruction channel during browser compression, especially page-as-data guidance and caller restrictions, instead of dropping every supplied rule. Keep hard candidate and tool checks independent of this guidance.
  • proposed — Align credential support across HTTP clients. For non-loopback use, establish an explicit HTTPS or trusted-tunnel policy and verify worker/frontend rejection of missing or invalid credentials before relying on the documented authentication mode.

…viewer suggestions

CodeRabbit's first review of the trial PR raised two points, both valid:

- The CHANGELOG said every non-draft pull request gets a review; CONTRIBUTING.md excepts Dependabot's. They agree now.
- review-pr read the PR title and description, which a branch has none of. For a branch it now asks for the change's
purpose and any issues before reviewing.

Also turn off suggested_reviewers, which names a person in the walkthrough of every pull request.

ruff format/check now pass repo-wide (164 files); unused imports removed.
NOTICE records the formatting change. Validation: ty check passes;
pytest 605 passed with the same 3 pre-existing served-billing failures
as main (621681b); scripts/smoke.sh ok; live client smoke on MPS worker.

…al states, prompt forwarding, provenance captions

- multi_ui/multi_replay: every game keeps its slot from the first frame
(pending placeholders), so the raster dimensions never change and later
rows are no longer cropped; captions derive from the recorded
engine_label and stay "unknown" when the recording has none.
- warmup: shared snake/warmup.py stops on won as well as dead (a won game
is still "alive" with an empty move list and crashed the previous loop).
- multi: forward --prompt to the policy instead of silently using compact.
- tests: focused regressions for all four (tests/test_snake_client.py).

- replay: resolve Consola on Windows (Menlo/DejaVu/Consola chain); the
raster regression skips when no monospace font exists on the host
- multi_replay: add --font; unknown/None engine labels render as UNKNOWN

- tests: warmup that wins during warmup stops after exactly one decision
- README: the raster check re-renders one frame, not every frame
- NOTICE: note the shared warmup and the font resolution

Same recording, re-rendered: 16 constant slots (pending placeholders at

…ultigrid slots from the board

- multi: receive futures with as_completed; on the first failure signal the
stop event and cancel siblings before the pool's shutdown(wait=True), and
close the record file from a finally so a failed run leaves a clean
metadata+frames file without an end summary.
- multi_replay: validate frame timestamps and sort by them on load; concurrent
writers append under a lock, so file order is not time order, and playback
walks frames with a single cursor that assumes ascending timestamps.
- multi_ui: derive the grid slot from the largest board on the canvas instead
of a fixed 44x22; a 32x24 board used to overlap columns and silently clip
its bottom border. The stock 24x16 board keeps the original 44x22 slot.
- tests: regressions for each of the three.
laya 0.3.9 builds the encoder under transformers' no_init_weights inside
laya.load and loads the checkpoint with strict=True, so the
without_weight_init() wrapper from ThinkFlowLab#22 and its test stubs are no longer
needed. The lock moves laya from 0.3.5 to 0.3.9, the first release with
the skip; later releases change MPS precision and are left for their
own bump.

The system_one config-error test pins the version lookup, so it passes
with the laya extra installed as well as on the core install.

Closes ThinkFlowLab#28
uv lock --upgrade-package laya, as ThinkFlowLab#28 asks, pinned to 0.3.20, the release
system1-omni's worker runs. Only the laya entry of the lock changes.

From 0.3.10 laya runs a request of five or more questions in fp16 on MPS.
Against fp32 that moved probabilities by up to 0.05 on the multilingual
checkpoint and flipped 2 of 180 decisions, and on an M1 Pro it was slower for
short states. LayaModel.from_env now raises the agent's mps_amp_min_rows so
such requests stay in fp32, unless LAYA_MPS_AMP_MIN_ROWS is set. With that,
answers match main on CPU and MPS for both cached checkpoints.

Also tests the 'laya unknown' branch, which the pinned version lookup had
stopped covering.
Laya reads a value it cannot parse as its default of 5, which runs requests of
five or more questions in fp16 on MPS. from_env saw the variable set and left
that in place, so a mistyped value meant to keep fp32 did the opposite. It is
now a configuration error, raised before the checkpoint loads.
docs/results/laya-upgrade: run.sh checks out two commits, installs each one's
lock, runs --model laya's backend over the 30 ticket-router tickets (one
choice, one noul and six questions) on both checkpoints and devices, adds the
LAYA_MPS_AMP_MIN_ROWS=5 and no-skip controls, and prints the comparison.
The README gives the steps. The recorded run's outputs are attached to ThinkFlowLab#37
rather than committed, per the artifact hygiene guide.

The --no-skip flag is passed only to the baseline worktree. The baseline commit defines and uses without_weight_init(), so the flag remains effective. The head run does not receive the flag, so it does not assign the unused attribute.

Send the bearer credential to /v1/systemone.

When the worker uses LAYA_API_KEY, the API contract requires a bearer token. SystemOneBackend.predict sends no Authorization header, so warm-up receives HTTP 401 before play starts. Recording also starts after warm-up.

Update SystemOneBackend.predict to send an Authorization bearer header when an

Guard the zero elapsed-time case.

evals/snake/snake/multi.py:146 can raise ZeroDivisionError when the two time.perf_counter() calls return the same value. The worker activity does not guarantee distinct counter readings, and zero steps are not required. The exception skips the end record.

Retry the /health refresh after it fails during warm-up.

Line 330 sets _health_tried before the read runs. Take this case: warm() fails, or the first non-strict refresh returns {}. The next decisions then skip /health for 30 s. For that time, served_by falls back to routing with no device or revision. The run record loses identity even when the server recovers quickly.

The effect is small. The fallback is safe and the record repairs itself after 30 s. Retry sooner when no reading exists yet:
