A seven-year miss on a 30-year-old event previously earned about 7 points because its zero-point allowance was only 7.5 years. New When? practice rounds and daily dates from October 24, 2026 now use the larger of ten years or exactly one-third of the event's age. Linear scoring is unchanged: that seven-year miss now earns 30 points, and a four-year miss on a recent event earns 60.
Freeze the new allowance as timelineScoringVersion 3 while retaining the challenge's scoringYear. Existing version-two questions keep their five-year / 25%-of-age allowance, and unversioned historical questions retain their original scoring. Update instructions, about copy, and saved-version validation. No other game mechanics, estimation prototypes, trivia facts, or assignments are changed.
Validation: full Node verification suite and 21 Python tests; mobile browser tests across all three timeline versions, actual keyboard guesses, both themes, and visible allowance feedback. Compared 1,020 historical questions through October 23 and 255 timeline scores with production; all unchanged. Published-data guards pass.
