CodexStatusbar

English · 简体中文 · v1.0.17

A Windows companion for Codex Desktop · fork: duoxini/codex-statusbar · derived from dongyue-19/codex-statusbar · MIT

Statusbar in the Codex title area

This fork adapts the upstream status strip to the current Codex Desktop layout. The default position is the free space beside the chat tab/title in the top header. It reads Codex's local session and account data and displays conversation throughput, cumulative tokens, cache hit rate, and available account limits. It is a separate companion process; it does not modify or inject into Codex.

What this fork adds

  • Top-header placement by default, with compact layouts selected as header space shrinks and more metrics restored as space returns, avoiding native controls.
  • Input-box display has many bugs; use it at your discretion. Toggle it in the tray menu. The default top-header position is recommended.
  • Independent child-agent rows on hover, with Desktop ID-seeded avatars. Approximate response throughput is marked ~; it is based on observed output timing and official response token counts, not a decoder-speed measurement.
  • Clear metric definitions: total tokens are cumulative input plus output (cached input is already included in input); cache hit rate is cached input divided by input; quota values are remaining account limits. Missing or unverified values stay unavailable rather than being guessed.
  • More conversation detail when space allows: input, output and cached tokens, plus context used/capacity and percentage, separating cumulative consumption from current context occupancy.
  • A per-user installer, tray controls, startup task, and status commands for checking startup registration and the live runtime.

Child-agent hover panel

The Windows logon task starts the installed app for the current user. The tray menu controls startup and positioning. The installed executable also accepts these commands:

& "$env:LOCALAPPDATA\Programs\CodexStatusbar\CodexStatusbar.exe" --startup-status
& "$env:LOCALAPPDATA\Programs\CodexStatusbar\CodexStatusbar.exe" --runtime-status
& "$env:LOCALAPPDATA\Programs\CodexStatusbar\CodexStatusbar.exe" --stop
& "$env:LOCALAPPDATA\Programs\CodexStatusbar\CodexStatusbar.exe" --restart

Install

After building from source, run dist\CodexStatusbar.exe directly or run install.bat in the repository root to install it. For a locally packaged Windows x64 ZIP, extract it and run the included install.bat. Installation is per-user and does not require elevation or a separately installed .NET runtime. To remove it, run install.bat -Mode Uninstall.

Build from source

Requirements: Windows x64, PowerShell 7 (pwsh), .NET 10 SDK, and Python for fixture checks.

pwsh -File build.ps1

The build runs the application's self-checks and fixture expectations, then publishes a self-contained executable to dist\CodexStatusbar.exe. To create the installable ZIP package:

pwsh -File package-stable.ps1

The ZIP is written to dist\. Package creation does not upload or publish a GitHub release.

Status and limitations

Real Windows reboot/autostart acceptance is pending. The project has not established universal stability across all Codex window transitions. The optional composer position has known display issues; use the default top-header placement for normal use.

Attribution and license

This fork derives from dongyue-19/codex-statusbar, itself retaining the original codex-token-overlay MIT attribution. See THIRD-PARTY-NOTICES.md, LICENSE, and LICENSE-codex-token-overlay. Codex Desktop avatar resources retain their upstream ownership and notices; this fork does not claim ownership of them. This project is not developed, endorsed, or supported by OpenAI.
