Merge plan

Refresh of universal-audio against https://www.uaudio.com/, run unattended by
/catalog-maintenance (attempt 2) for inbox issues
#108
and
#109.

Discovery found 285 current product pages against 221 existing entries. The
store is Shopify, so the feed supplied the roster.

⚠️ Read this first: ten products were renamed, not retired

The matcher initially put 8 Volt interfaces and the Verve pair in the
discontinued bucket while also proposing them as new entries
, because
Universal Audio changed both the slug and the name of each. Applied as
planned, that would have marked ten current products discontinued and created
ten duplicates of them.

Each rename is evidenced by a 301 from the existing entry's own url to a
slug present in the current roster, which is the maker stating the identity:

Existing entry 301 target New name
volt-1-usb volt-1-usb-audio-interface Volt 1 USB Audio Interface
volt-2-usb volt-2-usb-audio-interface Volt 2 USB Audio Interface
volt-4-usb volt-4-usb-audio-interface Volt 4 USB Audio Interface
volt-176-usb volt-176-usb-audio-interface Volt 176 USB Audio Interface
volt-276-usb volt-276-usb-audio-interface Volt 276 USB Audio Interface
volt-476-usb volt-476-usb-audio-interface Volt 476 USB Audio Interface
volt-476p-usb volt-476p-usb-audio-interface Volt 476P USB Audio Interface
volt-876 volt-876-usb-audio-interface Volt 876 USB Audio Interface
verve-analog-machines vibe-analog-machines Vibe Analog Machines
verve-analog-machines-essentials vibe-analog-machines-essentials Vibe Analog Machines Essentials

The extraction envelopes were renamed to the existing entries' product slugs so
the pipeline's own slug matcher paired them. Each now appears in
updateCandidate with name and url as conflicts, which is where the
rename belongs: name and url are not default-trust fields, so a person
decides. Nothing in this PR renames those entries. They keep their current
names, urls and file stems, and the ten old names are still live in the
catalog.

Buckets

Bucket Count
new 10
updated 216 (of which 16 have field conflicts)
discontinued 1
unchanged 0

Auto-resolved by heuristic: 0 fields.

updated modified no files. Every field on a matched entry resolved to
safe-keep or match except type, which the apply step skips as a
non-schema field. The Shopify feed carries a name, a marketing bullet list and
images and nothing else, so it has nothing with which to refresh an entry that
already has a description, details and a price. The 16 conflicts are listed
below for a person; the other 200 matched entries are byte-for-byte unchanged.

Conflicts requiring human review

The ten renames above, plus six name and url drifts:

  • data/hardware/universal-audio-1992-high-gain-amp.yaml field name
    • existing: 1992 High Gain Amp
    • extracted: ANTI 1992 High Gain Amp
  • data/hardware/universal-audio-apollo-e1x.yaml field name
    • existing: Apollo E1x
    • extracted: Apollo e1x
  • data/software/universal-audio-bill-putnam-mic-collection.yaml fields name, url
    • existing: Bill Putnam Mic Collection, .../uad-plugins/all-plugins/bill-putnam-mic-collection.html
    • extracted: The Bill Putnam Mic Collection, .../products/bill-putnam-mic-collection
  • data/software/universal-audio-api-vision-channel-strip-collection.yaml field url
    • existing: .../uad-plugins/channel-strips/api-vision-channel-strip-collection.html
    • extracted: .../products/api-vision-channel-strip-collection
  • data/software/universal-audio-ruby-63-top-boost-amplifier.yaml fields name, url
    • existing: Ruby '63 Top Boost Amplifier, .../products/ruby-63-top-boost
    • extracted: UAD Ruby '63 Top Boost Amplifier, .../products/ruby-63-top-boost-amplifier

The .html urls are legacy paths that Universal Audio has moved to
/products/, so those two look like straightforward corrections. Note rule 13
on names: UAD Ruby '63 ... adds a product-line prefix, which may not be
wanted.

New entries (10)

Hardware, the Volt lines the catalog did not carry:

  • universal-audio-volt-1-gen-2 — Volt 1 Gen 2, $184
  • universal-audio-volt-2-gen-2 — Volt 2 Gen 2, $274
  • universal-audio-volt-4-gen-2 — Volt 4 Gen 2, $374
  • universal-audio-volt-2-max — Volt 2 Max, $374
  • universal-audio-volt-4-max — Volt 4 Max, $499
  • universal-audio-volt-4p-max — Volt 4P Max, $624

Software:

  • universal-audio-enigmatic-82-overdrive-special — UAD Enigmatic '82 Overdrive Special Amp, $99
  • universal-audio-topline-vocal-tune — Topline Vocal Tune, $79
  • universal-audio-ua-connect — UA Connect, free
  • universal-audio-uad-console-app — UAD Console, free

All six interfaces carry a full io list written to the convention
universal-audio-apollo-twin-x.yaml sets: front-panel jacks at Bottom,
rear-panel jacks at Top, a mic and line combo as one entry with
connection: combo jack, and the external USB power port as category: power.
83 io port keys were assigned. The existing entries' io was not touched.

Two notes on what is not in these entries:

  • No formats on the two plug-ins. Neither product page names a plug-in
format, and help.uaudio.com answered 403 to both the Native UAD and general
system-requirements pages. 151 of the brand's 153 existing software entries
carry aax, au and vst3, so that is very likely the answer, but it is
not sourced and was not invented.
  • No platforms on uad-console-app. Same 403. The UA Connect page states
"Available for Mac and Windows" and that entry carries both; the UAD Console
    page states nothing.

Discontinued (1)

  • data/software/universal-audio-boss-ce-1-chorus-ensemble.yaml — its page
answers 404. Marked with the discontinued category, file retained.

Five entries the refresh refused to retire

The discontinued bucket initially held six entries. Five were held back and
filed to the inbox instead, because none of the evidence says the product went
away:

Entry Probe Why it was not retired
ua-610-a-tube-preamp-eq 200 Its url is /products/610-collection, a collection listing, not its own page
ua-610-b-tube-preamp-eq 200 Same collection url
uad-4k-buss-compressor 403 Its url points at kvraudio.com, an aggregator. A refusal is not a verdict
uad-4k-channel-strip 403 Same aggregator url
luna 301 Redirects to /collections/luna, a live listing. LUNA now ships as tiers

Products deliberately not created (59)

  • 51 bundles, collections, suites and mix tapes (UAD Complete 4,
    UAD Ultimate 14, every UAD Custom N / Select N / Native /
Mix Tape, the Neve, API, SSL, Pultec, Tube-Tech and Marshall collections,
and so on). Rule 11: a bundle is a commercial SKU, not a discrete
installable product. The catalog already carries bundle-shaped entries of
    this kind
    (bill-putnam-mic-collection,
api-vision-channel-strip-collection and others appear in updateCandidate
above), which is worth a separate decision about removal, not extension.
Nothing in this PR adds fields to them.
  • luna-free and luna-studio — the LUNA Studio page describes LUNA Free,
LUNA Studio and a UAD Spark Studio subscription as versions of one DAW, so
these read as licensing tiers of the product universal-audio-luna.yaml
already covers, not as separate installables. Filed as a finding instead.
  • uad-spark (a subscription) and uad-explore-free (a free plug-in
collection) — SKUs, not installable products.
  • black-box-hg-2 and elysia-karacter — already in the catalog as
    plugin-alliance-hg-2 and plugin-alliance-karacter. These are third-party
plug-ins that uaudio.com also sells, and rule 13 puts a storefront listing
under the actual developer. Creating them under universal-audio would
duplicate existing entries. Worth a look: both existing entries are filed
under plugin-alliance, which is itself a storefront rather than the
developer (Black Box Analog Design and elysia both exist as manufacturers).
  • Three Spitfire Audio LUNA editions — Spitfire Chamber Strings, Symphonic
Brass and Symphonic Woodwinds. Genuinely absent from the catalog, but the
developer is Spitfire Audio, which already exists with 16 entries, so they do
not belong to a refresh scoped to universal-audio. Filed as new-product
findings so they reach the inbox and are imported under the right
    manufacturer.

Deterministic checks

Check File Rule Detail
prose-lint data/software/universal-audio-topline-vocal-tune.yaml spelling (specs) flagged: repitching

repitching is a false finding and was left as written: repitch and its
inflections are already used by eight catalog entries, including Synchro Arts'
RePitch products, Elektron's Digitakt II and Soundtoys' Little Alterboy.
"MIDI repitching" is Universal Audio's own wording for the feature.

No io-lint, coverage-lint, supersedes or changeset findings. Every new product
kept at least one image, so there is no no-images row.

Data review

  • Mode: slim consistency pass (11 entries)
  • Auto-fixes applied: none needed
  • pnpm validate --files ... --strict-unknown-keys: pass
  • pnpm validate (unscoped, cross-file): pass, no duplicate or invalid IDs
    across 20,845 entries
  • pnpm validate:translations: pass
  • pnpm build: pass
  • Each interface's N-in / N-out claim was reconciled against its own io
list. The jack count exceeds the channel count on every model because the
front-panel Hi-Z instrument inputs share channels with the rear mic and line
combo inputs, which is how Universal Audio's own spec table presents them.

Images

28 images uploaded to R2 across all 10 new products, 0 failures. 37 candidates
were downloaded and 9 rejected by the quality gate, then capped at the top 3
per product. dropSiteChrome removed site furniture first, including one
Apollo bundle image that appeared on five different products.

Extraction note, not a finding

The Shopify fast path writes the storefront's selling-point bullets into
specs, and on this brand all 272 of them are second-person marketing copy
("Produce music with elite-class conversion", "Beef up kick drums"), not
specifications. prose-lint's never-ship rules do not cover second-person
imperative voice, and an empty existing specs is a plain safe-add with no
guard, so left alone this run would have written marketing copy into the
specs field of about 185 entries whose existing specs are terse noun phrases
("9V DC power, 400 mA"). They were dropped from the envelopes before the diff
and re-derived from each product page's own "Details" list for the 10 entries
that became files. The same bullets are already present in the details of
the existing Volt entries from an earlier import.

The feed also produced prices for none of the 285 products, although
/meta.json reads cleanly and states USD. Prices for the 10 new entries were
read from each product's own .json.

Every Volt port the import put at Top is a rear-panel jack (the front
panel carries only the Hi-Z inputs and headphones, already Bottom), and
CLAUDE.md places rear-panel jacks on desktop units at Right. Moves the
whole rear edge, not only the ports review named, so the rear panel
stays on one edge.
