Headless catalog import

Scope — first batch of a large brand

Zildjian's storefront carries 415 products. This PR imports the 60
size-specific acoustic cymbals and gongs
and defers the other 355 as
volume-split, schema-gap, bundle-page, anchor-grouped and
out-of-scope. See "Deferred" below.

Ticking this brand's checkbox on the tier issue does not mean Zildjian
is complete.
It needs further runs.

These are the catalog's first actual cymbals. The 28 entries already
carrying primaryCategory: cymbals, and all 30 carrying
primaryCategory: hi-hat, are cymbal and hi-hat stands (tama-hh*,
dw-drums-*-stand). That pre-existing mis-filing is not touched here.

How the data was read

Prestage had already banked all 415 products from the Shopify
products.json, so this ran as enrichment mode, not discovery:
three agents of ~20 products each read every product page for its SPECS
block. zildjian.com declares no Crawl-delay.

Specs come from the page's own div.accordion__content.rte.specs block.
Across the 60: Diameter ×60, Family ×60, Weight ×54, Finish ×1.
Where a page states no Diameter row, the diameter is the one in the
product's own name and the entry says so in the saved page record. No
alloy, lathing or hammering row was taken, because those appear only as
marketing prose and not as stated specs.

Counts

  • Discovered: 415
  • Extracted (success): 60
  • Extracted (partial / review): 0
  • Skipped (already in catalog): 0
  • Failed: 0
  • Auto-selected images: 175/427

Prices: 8 entries were mispriced by the shared extractor

This is the finding most worth a reviewer's attention, because the
defect is in tooling and not in this brand.

shopify-envelope.ts takes the lowest positive variant price,
documented as "the base configuration (finishes and bundles price upward
from it)". That assumption holds for colourways. It breaks when the
cheapest variant is less product than the entry describes, which
Zildjian does in two ways:

Entry Was Now Why
zildjian-14-planet-z-hihats 64.95 129.95 single cymbal vs the pair
zildjian-14-k-custom-special-dry-hihats 339.95 679.95 single cymbal vs the pair
zildjian-14-s-mastersound-hihats 149.95 299.95 single cymbal vs the pair
zildjian-k-mastersound-hihats 324.95 649.95 single cymbal vs the pair
zildjian-a-zildjian-mastersound-hihats 259.95 519.95 single cymbal vs the pair
zildjian-a-zildjian-quick-beat-hihats 259.95 519.95 single cymbal vs the pair
zildjian-k-constantinople-hihats 399.95 799.95 single cymbal vs the pair
zildjian-22-k-constantinople-renaissance-ride 654.95 779.95 took the 20" variant's price on a 22" entry

A hi-hat page sells pair, top and bottom; the entry is the pair, so
the minimum is half the product. The Renaissance Ride page sells 20" and
22" on one URL, and the entry is the 22".

What caught it was an internal impossibility rather than a schema rule:
14" Planet Z HiHats (two cymbals) at $64.95 was cheaper than the single
16" Planet Z Crash at $94.95. All 60 prices were then re-verified one by
one against /products/{handle}.js, which is how the Renaissance Ride
turned up — a hi-hat-only fix would have missed it. The other 52 are
correct, and zildjian-14-l80-low-volume-hihats ($224.95) and
zildjian-fx-spiral-stackers ($109.95) were deliberately left alone:
both have a single Default Title variant, so the minimum is right.

The tooling defect is unfixed. It affects every Shopify greenfield
import, which is the fast lane's primary path. It is recorded as a
price-anomaly finding under
scripts/catalog-import/data/zildjian/findings.jsonl keyed
price-anomaly:zildjian:shopify-lowest-variant. A fix should prefer a
pair variant, and otherwise the variant whose title matches the entry's
own name, rather than Math.min.

No entry carries a sale price: all 61 pages were checked and
Regular price equals Sale price on every one, with
compare_at_price: null throughout.

Confidence flags

None. All 60 are success with high name and category confidence.

Data review

  • Mode: sampled (60 changed, 36 deep-read across all nine Families
plus every prose-lint-flagged entry). Deterministic checks covered
    every one of the 60.
  • Review agents: Schema and Data Quality, Filename and ID Integrity,
    Translation Audit, CLAUDE.md and Structural.
  • Auto-fixes applied: 8 prices (above), plus:
    • 31 entries' details removed where byte-identical to
description. The corpus settled it: 10% of existing hardware
entries have details starting with description (established
practice, not worth re-litigating), but only 1% are byte-identical,
against 53% here. All 29 surviving details genuinely extend their
      description.
    • 4 entries' first-person maker voice rewritten ("our catalog",
"our portfolio", "we launched"). Verified against the maker's live
products.json: meaning preserved, no fragments, -6/-6/-3/-6
characters. These are the only prose edits in the import; the other
32 sampled details are byte-identical to the maker's copy.
    • 8 hi-hat entries retyped primaryCategory: cymbals →
hi-hat, with cymbals kept in categories. hi-hat is a valid
sibling category and the schema asks for the most specific value.
Reviewer note: the Schema agent advised keeping cymbals, on the
grounds that every existing hi-hat entry is a stand. I went the
other way — a hi-hat cymbal is the canonical hi-hat, and the
stands being mis-filed is a pre-existing problem that should not
push new entries to a less specific category. Happy to be
      overruled.
    • '' normalised to " as inch marks in
      zildjian-k-constantinople-hihats (6 occurrences). The enrichment
pass normalised ” but had no rule for doubled apostrophes.
    • 17" FX EL SONIDO MULTI-CRASH RIDE retitled to
17" FX El Sonido Multi-Crash Ride. The all-caps was the
storefront's title styling; the page's own prose reads "El Sonido
Multi Crash Ride", and all 59 others are title case. This is now
the only one of 60 whose name is not verbatim the source title, so
      please do not re-raise it.
    • specs row order normalised to Diameter/Weight/Family on the two
      entries that drifted.
  • Remaining notes (INFO / un-auto-fixed):
    • zildjian-21-a-custom-20th-anniversary-ride: the maker's prose says
"medium weight" while the maker's own SPECS row says
Weight: Medium Thin. Zildjian's page contradicts itself. The spec
row is authoritative and correct; the prose is left as published
      rather than editorialised.
    • zildjian-22-k-constantinople-bounce-ride has no Weight row while
its four K Constantinople siblings do. Checked, not a miss: that
page's SPECS block publishes only Family: K Family, no Diameter and
      no Weight. Same for 20-xiang-jia-gong.
    • No links and no videos on any of the 60, though Zildjian
pages generally carry demo videos. A coverage gap, not a convention
      breach.
    • 17 of 60 filenames derive from the Shopify handle rather than the
name (zildjian-a-custom-medium-rides holds 20" A Custom Medium Ride). Every plural handle was checked against its page: each sells
a single size, so nothing is missing. ~20% of existing
data/hardware/ stems diverge the same way.
    • zildjian-18-s-family-band-pair and -suspended carry
categories: [drums, percussion] while the three gongs in the same
Other Orchestral Lines family carry [percussion]. Arguably both
      should be [percussion].
    • Shared family boilerplate is byte-identical across siblings in the I,
L80, Planet Z, Kerope and K Custom Special Dry families. That is the
      maker's own copy.
    • Every entry's url was fetched and returned 200 (60/60).
validate-urls --changed-only --base main reported 0 URLs because
nothing is committed until this PR, so the check was run directly.
    • pnpm validate:translations warns on locales ru and it.
Verified pre-existing: all five source files are under
data/software/ and byte-identical to main, and none of these 60
entries has a translations key at all.

Deterministic checks

io-lint and coverage-lint reported nothing. All prose-lint rows
were spelling flags on real cymbal terminology and proper nouns, none
rewritten:

Check Rule Detail
prose-lint spelling unlathed (6 entries), crashability (3), Ilham (3, the Turkish root of the I Family name), Keropes and boldens (2), chau (gong type), Nussbaum, Jimbo, Allman, Zildjians

No io findings is the expected result: an acoustic cymbal or gong has no
connectors, so io is absent rather than [], nothing is powered so the
power-input rule does not engage, and capabilities is absent because
the vocabulary describes audio-processing operations an acoustic cymbal
performs none of.

Hi-hat pages expose Shopify pair/top/bottom options. Those are
separately purchasable configurations, so they are correctly neither
variants (not cosmetic) nor versions (not release history), and the
recorded price is the pair.

Robots

Metric Value
Hosts crawled 1
robots.txt: ok 1 (rules fetched and applied)
Crawl-delay declared none

zildjian.com's robots.txt disallows nothing and declares no crawl delay.
The ledger undercounts this run: the 60 enrichment page reads, the 427
image downloads and the 60-URL verification sweep are not all recorded,
because download-images.ts has no robots handling of its own and the
enrichment agents fetched directly.

Deferred (355 URLs)

Reason Count Note
schema-gap 116 drumsticks, mallets and brushes
out-of-scope 115 apparel and merchandise
bundle-page 56 cymbal packs and orchestral pairs
anchor-grouped 37 cymbal family pages covering several diameters
volume-split 31 bags, cases, stands, and the electronic E-FAMILY line
  • schema-gap is the honest label for drumsticks: the catalog has no
stick category, and carries zero entries for Vic Firth, Promark or
Vater. Importing 116 sticks would need that decision made first.
  • bundle-page follows anti-hallucination rule 11 — a cymbal pack is
a commercial SKU, not a discrete installable product.
  • anchor-grouped is the one that needs real work: those pages sell
several diameters as Shopify size variants, and each diameter is a
distinct SKU needing its own entry. The bulk extraction produced one
envelope per Shopify product, so it did not split them. This is the
same root cause as the pricing defect above.
  • E-FAMILY cymbals are electronic and do have io, so they are held
back for a focused pass rather than imported without it.

Machine-readable list at
scripts/catalog-import/data/zildjian/deferred.json in the racks repo.
Run /catalog-import-followup zildjian to import these after the
drumstick schema decision.

Caveat on that path: scripts/catalog-import/data/ is gitignored and
this ran on an ephemeral runner, so that manifest does not outlive the
job. The durable records are this PR body and the summary comment on
AUREO-530.

Images

175 of 427 candidates kept (top 3 per product, quality-gated); every one
of the 60 products kept at least one image, and 0 downloads failed. The
manufacturer logo was not re-uploaded: Zildjian already has a
326×326 logo in R2 and the storefront exposes no better source, so
overwriting it would have been a regression.

Resume / debug

Per-product extraction state is at
scripts/catalog-import/data/zildjian/import-state.json. The offline
record of exactly what was read per product is in
scripts/catalog-import/data/zildjian/pages/{slug}.txt, so a reviewer
can verify any price or spec without refetching the site.

Auto-merge gate: batched human review (10 PRs at a time).

Comment thread data/hardware/zildjian-9-5-large-zil-bel.yaml Outdated
The maker's own page says 9.5 in its title and
specs but 9 in its description prose. The entry
copied the prose and so contradicted its own name
and specs row.

Removes the measurement rather than restating it,
since the specs row already carries the verified
diameter.
