Headless catalog import

  • Manufacturer: Zoom (existing manufacturer entry, owned 0 catalog entries before this PR)
  • Source: https://zoomcorp.com/en/us/
  • Tier issue: AUREO-530 (tier 2)

Scope: this is a partial import, by design

Zoom's en/us sitemap yields 352 product pages, which is not a reviewable
PR and does not fit the nightly window. This PR takes the 116 core recording
products
and defers the other 236 with reasons (see Deferred below).

Imported: handheld recorders (H1 to H8, the Essential line, H5studio/H6studio),
field recorders (F1 to F8n Pro), MicTrak, PodTrak, iOS/Android plug-in mics,
Q-series handy video recorders, LiveTrak mixer-recorders, R-series MultiTrak
recorders, the MRS/HD/PS recording studios, UAC/TAC/U-series/AMS audio
interfaces, the ZDM-1/ZUM-2/ZPC-1/ZSG-1/LMF-2 microphones, ARQ and SampleTrak
digital instruments, and the V3/V6/SGV-6 vocal products.

60 of the 116 are discontinued and carry the discontinued category.

Counts

  • Discovered: 352 product pages (813 en/us URLs, filtered to products)
  • Extracted (success): 97
  • Extracted (partial / review): 19
  • Skipped (already in catalog): 0
  • Failed: 2 (both bundles, deliberately refused, see below)
  • Extra SKUs extracted beyond the URL list: 3 (F2-BT, AMS-22, AMS-24)
  • Auto-selected images: 283/663 (uploaded 284 objects including the brand logo)
  • io entries written: 1019
  • Entries with capabilities: 85 of 116

Prestage reported platform: sitemap with urlFilter: "all" and
truncated: true at 3000 URLs across four locale variants, so product filtering
was done here. Re-running discover-urls.ts for en/us returned 813 URLs,
byte-identical to prestage's en/us slice, so that slice was complete and the
truncation only cost other locales. Not a Shopify storefront (probe exit 2).

Two bundles refused, not failures

Anti-hallucination rule 11 says a bundle is a commercial SKU, not a discrete
product. Both pack pages restate their member product's spec table verbatim:

Page Members
ZDM-1 Podcast Mic Pack ZDM-1, ZHP-1 headphones, TPS-4 tripod, windscreen, 2 m XLR cable
ZUM-2 USB Podcast Mic Pack ZUM-2, ZHP-2 headphones, TPS-4 tripod, mount, windscreen, USB-C cable

Confidence flags

19 entries are partial. Every one is a retired product whose page Zoom has
stripped
to a hero image, an og:title and a subhead. Where a manual existed
on the same domain it was read and the entry is complete; where none exists,
description, details, specs and io are omitted rather than invented
(the schema requires only name and manufacturer, so these validate):

  • Enriched from Zoom's own operation-manual PDFs: 9010, 9120, 9200, RFX-1000,
    RFX-1100, HD16, MRS-1044, RT-323, ST-224, SB-246
  • Genuinely thin, fields omitted: H2, H4, Q3, Q4, C5.1t, S2T, RFX-2200, LMF-2
  • 115 of 116 entries carry a description. The one exception is S2T: its
page holds a single image and a title with no body copy, no spec table, no
manual and a 404 support page, so there was nothing to source. C5.1t, H2, H4
and Q3 keep a short page subhead for the same reason.
  • 9 entries carry no io at all (C5.1t, H2, H4, MRS-1044, Q3, Q4, RFX-2200,
S2T, SB-246). SB-246 has full details and specs but neither its page nor its
manual lists a connector, so it is an /io-enrich worklist item.

Medium name confidence: RFX-2200 (see Deterministic checks), R20 MultiTrak
(spelt four ways on its page), AMS-44.

Data review

Four dimensions, per the catalog's /data-review: Schema & Data Quality,
Filename & ID Integrity, Translation & Links, and CLAUDE.md & Structural.

  • Mode: sampled for Schema & Data Quality and Structural (60 of 116
deep-read, 52%, covering all 19 primary categories plus every one of the 12
dataset:audit-flagged entries). Exhaustive for Filename & ID Integrity
and Translation & Links, which are cheap enough to run over all 116.
The other 56 entries were not hand-read for schema contradictions.
  • Deterministic checks cover all 116 regardless.
  • Auto-fixes applied: 14 io field gaps resolved from Zoom's manuals, 317 prose
semicolons, 10 consistency normalisations, 34 descriptions written or
rewritten, 4 capsule maxConnections, 5 prose edits, 1 reverted bad auto-fix
  • Remaining notes: see Deterministic checks

Filename & ID Integrity: clean. All 116 stems match dedupSlug(name), all
116 ids are present/21-char/unique against the whole catalog, all 1019 io keys
are present and unique within their entry, and a token scan of all 17,074
non-Zoom entries for Zoom model strings found no entry already describing a
Zoom product. 321 near-name pairs were checked and every one is a genuine
distinct Zoom model number.

Schema & Data Quality found 3 BLOCKING issues, all fixed: the H4essential
was missing an io entry for its own built-in X/Y mics (named in its details,
specs and page), the H6 carried maxConnections: 2 on a single 10-pin capsule
connector, and the HD16 had no description while its page headline supplied one.
That reviewer also ran down four of its own suspected capability over-claims and
withdrew each after checking the source, which is the behaviour this phase
wants.

Descriptions. The catalog's CLAUDE.md makes description required for
hardware and accessories, though the JSON schema only enforces name and
manufacturer, so a missing one passes pnpm validate silently. 10 entries had
none and 24 more had a description that was entirely a scraped page title or
slogan. 34 were written or rewritten from each entry's own
manual-sourced details/specs and saved page text
, never from model
knowledge. Five were deliberately left as they were, because nothing sourceable
exists (C5.1t, H2, H4 and Q3 keep a thin page subhead; S2T has no description
at all
— its page holds one image and a title, with no manual and a 404
support page). An absent description is an honest gap; a fabricated one is a
defect that outlives the PR.

Worth raising separately: the catalog's own CLAUDE.md contradicts itself here,
making description required for hardware at line 230 and listing it under
"Optional fields" at line 233.

Prose. 5 entries described Zoom's page rather than the product ("Zoom
pairs it with the F1 on this page", "the copy describes", "Zoom's own copy
places"). Rewritten. ~50 entries carry Zoom's second-person marketing voice
("you", "your"), which is not a documented violation (the house rules ban
taglines in name, promo copy and first person), so it was left; the
slogan-only descriptions that were the worst of it are fixed.

Consistency normalisation applied before YAML generation, because per-product
agents disagreed across batches:

  • 5 handheld H-series entries filed field-recorder were moved to
portable-recorder to match the other 16 in the line
  • The MRS/HD/PS recording-studio family was unified on workstation
(it was split across workstation and portable-recorder), with
portable-recorder kept as a secondary category only where the spec table
    evidences battery operation (MRS-4, MRS-8, PS-02, PS-04 yes; HD16, MRS-1044,
MRS-802 no, all three are mains-only desk units)
  • M3 MicTrak moved to portable-recorder to match M2/M4, and its
stereo-widening capability was dropped: the page attributes stereo-width
adjustment to the companion M3 Edit and Play software, not to the unit. The
same check confirmed M2/M4 auto-gain is correct, since those two say
"onboard NORMALIZE function" where M3 says the software does it.
  • ZDM-1 primaryCategory moved to its specific mic type (dynamic) to match
    ZUM-2/ZPC-1/ZSG-1/LMF-2

File stems were corrected after generation. gen-yaml-from-extracted.ts
derives the stem from the envelope filename, not the product name, which is the
failure mode fast/slugs.ts exists to prevent. 20 stems disagreed with their
product name and were renamed through dedupSlug from @racks/lib, the same
function the fast lane uses. The worst were zoom-rd16 for a product named
HD16 everywhere Zoom writes about it, zoom-ams-series for the AMS-44,
zoom-livetrak-l6-final (a CMS artefact) and zoom-uib-01-02 for the UIB-02.
One was a swap (zoom-h6-audio-recorder to zoom-h6, while the old
zoom-h6 became zoom-h6-2013-model), applied in two phases so neither
clobbered the other.

Deterministic checks

deterministic-checks.ts --fix produced 221 rows. After the fixes above, a
re-run without --fix reports 133. The remainder are reported, and most are
known-false for the reasons given. The row counts below are from the final run.

Check File Rule Detail
prose-lint 74 files em-dash 317 semicolons in prose, all fixed (house style allows commas, colons, parentheses or a new sentence). The report's "89" was a per-line count, not an occurrence count.
prose-lint 61 rows spelling Known-false: domain terms and quoted 1990s LCD program names (alkalines 11, HIROSE 9, WVGA 7, DADGAD 6, lightpipe, endfire, beltpack, Orche, Percus, Chors, Flang, Equlz, ESMPL). catalogTermAllowList is wired into fast/checks.ts but not into deterministic-checks.ts, which is the documented drift between the two lanes, so the agent lane reports words the fast lane allows.
prose-lint 33 rows sku-code Known-false: Zoom accessory model numbers named in power specs (AD-0006, AD-0002, AD-0011, ZAD-1220) and host cross-references (MRS-1044, MRS-1266, RFX-2000). Informative, not leaked tags. Not stripped.
io-lint 15 rows uniform-position Known-false: 1U rack units (1201, 1202, 9010, RFX series, ARQ AR-96, F-Control) whose jacks genuinely are all rear-panel. The rule exempts modules and pedals but not rack gear.
io-lint 10 rows split-candidate Known-false, all 10: F4 Input 5/6 and F8/F8n/F8n Pro Sub Out 1/2 are single 1/8-inch stereo jacks (maxConnections: 1); the External DC In (4-pin Hirose, 9-18 V) inlets are one connector whose name contains numbers; the capsule bays are one proprietary connector each (2 of the original 12 rows cleared when those names were de-paired); and the L12next LINE 9/10 and LINE 11/12 ports are already split into separate L and R entries. The rule is firing on channel numbers in a name.
io-lint zoom-h1, zoom-h2n power-input Known-false. Both carry an explicit specs line (Power: 1 x alkaline or Ni-MH AA battery, or AC adapter (AD-17, USB to AC type)), the H2n adds USB bus power operation supported, and the AD-17 is a USB-to-AC adapter so power arrives through the modelled USB port. 44 other entries share exactly this pattern and were not flagged, so the rule is matching on phrasing rather than on absent evidence. No jack invented.
io-lint zoom-livetrak-l6max form-factor-position Known-false: the message is about Eurorack panels, but the entry has no modular category and no hp. Its one non-Top port is the USB-C power inlet on the right edge.
prose-lint zoom-iq6 first-person Known-false: matches US inside "US Patent 8184815".
io-lint zoom-podtrak-p8 speaker-level, speaker-impedance The auto-fix here was wrong and is deliberately reverted, so the lint now disagrees with the entry. --fix rewrote Speaker Output L/R from type: line to type: speaker-level on the word "Speaker" in the port name. The saved page text describes "two 1/4 inch TRS jacks marked L and R with a speaker icon (the balanced speaker outputs)", and the P8 has no power amplifier, so these are balanced line outputs feeding active monitors. The catalog's own rule agrees: the connector is the discriminator, a passive loudspeaker is never driven down a TRS line feed, and it names monitor controllers as the standing false positive. Reverted to line, which leaves 2 speaker-level rows and 2 now-moot speaker-impedance rows standing in the report. The heuristic is name-based and will repeat on any product labelled "Speaker Output".
name zoom-rfx-2200 name mismatch Zoom's CMS metadata (title, og:title, twitter:title, itemprop) all say RXF-2200 while the authored content (hero image alt and filename) says RFX-2200. RFX-2200 taken, medium confidence. Upstream page defect.
data zoom-r8 upstream page defect The R8 page's spec table wrongly copies the R24's "Input 1-8". The real count is 2, read from the page copy and the rear photo.
prices 8 entries price disagreement See Prices below.

supersedes is empty on every entry. The resolver declined all of them,
which is the documented signal that a person has to look: Zoom's generation
tokens are n, Pro, essential and studio (H4n to H4n Pro, F8 to F8n to
F8n Pro, H1 to H1n, UAC-2 to UAC-232), none of which are the tokens
supersedes-resolve.ts recognises. Predecessors named on the pages are recorded
in each envelope's notes so the resolver's prose rule can read them later.
Nothing was hand-wired.

Flagged for a human, not fixed

Each of these needs a source this import cannot reach, so none was guessed at.

Entry Finding
zoom-hd8 vs zoom-hd16 HD8 lists 24 capabilities including cabinet-simulation, de-essing, harmonic-enhancement, stereo-widening and vibrato that HD16 omits, while HD16 claims mic-modeling that HD8 omits even though its own specs list MIC/DUAL MIC. HD16 is superset hardware and the two share one manual, so one of the lists is wrong.
zoom-zpc-1 Sensitivity reads 38 +/- 2 dBV/Pa with no minus sign. Every sibling mic is negative and a positive dBV/Pa is physically impossible for a passive mic, but Zoom's own page omits the minus too, so it was not silently corrected.
zoom-r4-multitrak Specs say "2 mono XLR/TS combo jacks" on one line and "2 XLR/TRS combo jacks" on the next. Zoom's page says both. Its built-in mic is also at position: Bottom, which its own specs give as the tripod face, where every other built-in mic in the sample is Top.
zoom-arq-ar-48 No discontinued category while its sibling AR-96 has one. The ARQ line is retired, but the AR-48 page carries no badge and it is absent from Zoom's listing, so it was correctly not tagged.
zoom-zum-2 No built-in capsule io entry, while Am7 and iQ5 of the same class both carry one.
zoom-mrs-802 categories carries time-stretch, which is an operation rather than a form, for an edit function.
zoom-h1n-vp An H1n value-pack SKU, borderline against the bundle rule, kept because it has its own Zoom page and model number.
11 Vimeo videos zoom-h1-xlr, h5studio, instamic-pro-plus-c, livetrak-l6max, m2/m3/m4-mictrak, podtrak-p2, zsg-1. The ids are real (player.vimeo.com returns 403 where a nonexistent id returns 404) but the embeds are domain-restricted to zoomcorp.com and will not play in Studio. Kept, because they are real page data, validate:videos is not in CI's gate, and 188 of the 199 corpus-wide invalid videos are pre-existing from other brands, so dropping only Zoom's would be inconsistent. A reviewer may prefer to drop them.
Essential line h1essential, h4essential, h6essential pages offer localized accessibility guides (fr, es, de, zh) the en/us crawl did not capture. A future pass could add translations.<locale>.

Prices

59 of 116 entries carry a price. Zoom's pages routinely publish two or three
disagreeing figures
for one product: JSON-LD offers.price,
priceSpecification.price, and a retailer buy-flyout. The PodTrak P8 shows
299.99, 349.99 and 499.99 on one page. The two JSON-LD fields disagree in
opposite directions across the brand (P8 spec higher, P4 spec lower, P4next
identical), so priceSpecification cannot be read as a list price.

Convention applied: the regular price, never a promotional one, preferring
JSON-LD offers.price where the two disagree without a promo signal. Every
figure seen is preserved in the saved page text, so a reviewer can check offline
without refetching. Entries whose recorded price a reviewer may want to confirm:
H3-VR, F2, F6, PodTrak P8, PodTrak P4, LiveTrak L-8 (took priceSpecification
449.99 over offers.price 379.99, reading the latter as a promo), LiveTrak L-12,
LiveTrak L6max, LiveTrak L12next, R16, R20 MultiTrak, Q8, ZDM-1, Am7, iQ6, GCE-3.

The AMS-24 carries no price deliberately: the AMS page's only schema.org
Offer is tagged sku ZAMS22, so it is the AMS-22's price and was put there, not
on its siblings. The AMS-44 is unpriced for the same reason.

Discontinuation

Zoom publishes a /discontinued-products/ listing naming 160 products. All 160
are also in the sitemap, so there are no archive-only products and the retired
set was known before extraction. 56 of this PR's entries were tagged from that
listing.

Zoom's own listing under-reports. Four more entries carry
"This product has been discontinued" on their own pages while being absent
from the listing: RT-323, SB-246, ST-224 and ARQ AR-96. They are tagged from the
page signal, which is why the per-page check was kept rather than trusting the
listing alone. Total discontinued: 60.

Machine-readable list at
scripts/catalog-import/data/zoom/deferred.json.

That file will not survive this run. It lives under the gitignored
scripts/catalog-import/data/, on an ephemeral CI runner, so
/catalog-import-followup zoom will not find it and picking the rest up needs a
fresh discovery pass. There is no volume-split kind in findings.ts to file
them through either. The breakdown above and the comment on AUREO-530 are the
durable record. The four natural follow-up PRs are accessories, multi-effects,
software, and the SKU variants.

Resume / debug

Per-product extraction state is at
scripts/catalog-import/data/zoom/import-state.json in the racks repo
(stageTimings has per-phase latency), and the readable text of every page used
is at scripts/catalog-import/data/zoom/pages/*.txt (100 files, 2.7 MB), which
/resolve-catalog-pr reads to verify a price or spec offline.

Auto-merge gate: batched human review (10 PRs at a time).

Comment @coderabbitai help to get the list of available commands.

The MRS-802 has a phrase-loop function for pasting
audio, which is loop playback and editing rather
than the looper operation. The catalog's own
precedent is that a loop playback row alone does
not support the capability, so the category goes
rather than the capability being claimed.

Fixes the derive-capabilities assertion that a
category implying a capability must carry it.
