Merge plan

Refresh of Softube, run unattended by /catalog-maintenance against inbox
issues 150, 151, 152 and 153. Discovery found 151 product pages plus two
more a first pass missed (see Coverage below); 153 envelopes were extracted
with no failures and no fetch-blocked pages.

⚠️ Auto-resolved — verify these before merging

324 fields were auto-resolved by the merge heuristics. Grouped by reason:

Count Reason What it did
119 guard merges the list by identity, items main carries are kept prices, videos, links, versions, variants merged; nothing main carried was dropped
115 prefer extracted (default trust) description / details / specs took the newer page copy
76 extracted array is superset of existing (gains entries) string list only gained entries
13 extracted value is suspiciously shorter (truncation, paywall or stub) kept main's value, extraction refused
1 extracted copy trips promo-copy and main's does not kept main's value

The 115 default-trust prose swaps are the ones worth spot-checking. They
replace a human-captured description, details or specs with the current
page's copy. One is worth naming specifically:

  • data/hardware/softube-console-1-channel-mk-iii.yaml field description →
    applied extracted value
    • reason: prefer extracted (default trust)
    • the new copy is the Console 1 Mixing System family blurb ("gives you
the best of all worlds…"), which describes the system rather than the
Channel unit specifically. Main's previous copy was narrower and arguably
better. Worth a look before merging.

The 13 short-extraction keeps and the 1 promo-copy keep are cases where the
guard declined the extracted value and kept main's. No action needed;
they are listed here because the heuristic, not a person, made the call.

Buckets

Bucket Count
new 17 (29 matched, 12 declined as bundles)
updated 119 (of which 118 carry at least one field conflict)
discontinued 0 (1 candidate held, see below)
unchanged 0

Auto-resolved by heuristic: 324 field(s) — see table above.

⚠️ Conflicts requiring human review

178 conflict fields across 118 entries. The sanity gate
(conflicts ≥ 0.5 × updateCandidate) is tripped, and that is expected
here: one mechanical class accounts for nearly two thirds of it.

Count Field Nature
115 url One decision, not 115. Every one of these differs only in locale prefix and path shape, with an identical final segment: main carries softube.com/us/plug-ins/synthesizers/<slug>, the current site canonicalises to softube.com/plug-ins/<slug>. All sampled /us/ URLs still answer 200, so nothing is broken. Decide once whether Softube entries should carry locale-neutral canonical URLs, then apply across the brand. Nothing was rewritten.
35 categories Curated list vs extracted list. categories is in the apply step's SKIP_FIELDS, so nothing was written regardless.
20 primaryCategory Taxonomy preference, e.g. equalizer→eq, synthesizer→modular, compressor→multiband. Fails closed by design.
5 name Casing and wording refinements where main's value is as good or better: Abbey Road Studios Brilliance Pack vs Abbey Road Brilliance Pack; Opto Compressor vs OPTO Compressor; Tube-Tech Equalizers mk II vs Mk II; Tube-Tech SMC 2B Multiband Compressor vs SMC 2B; Tonelux Tilt vs Tonelux Tilt and Tilt Live.
3 formats Page states fewer formats than main carries.

Apply any resolution by hand (Edit the YAML) before merging.

Coverage

Two live products were missed by a first discovery pass that filtered to
/plug-ins/{slug} and /hardware/…, and both were recovered before the
diff was final:

  • Softube Modular — /plug-ins/modular was excluded as a category
landing page. It is a product page (200).
  • Amp Room — lives at /amp-room, a path depth the filter did not reach.

Both already had catalog entries, so without the recovery they would have
landed in the discontinued bucket and retired two live flagship products.
They are updateCandidate entries in this PR instead.

Also checked and deliberately excluded:

  • Eight /plug-ins/equalizers-* paths are genuine bundle SKUs ("Equalizers"
plus another product), not legacy duplicates. None has a catalog entry, and
all are bundles, so excluding them creates nothing and retires nothing.
  • /flow-complete-suite, /flow-mastering-suite, /flow-mixing-suite are
subscription bundles with no catalog entries. Not imported.

One new entry ships without formats or platforms:
softube-pacific-dual-tremolo-100w-silver.yaml. Its page states neither
(the shell is client-rendered), while its sibling …-100w-black carries
both. Left absent rather than copied across.

Bundles declined (rule 11)

12 of the 29 matched new items are bundles and were not created:

console-1-mixing-system-mk-iii, empirical-labs-complete-collection-2,
equalizers-reference-equalizers, equalizers-tonelux-tilt-and-tilt-live,
producer-collection, reference-equalizers-bundle,
softube-essentials-collection, the-dirty-the-bad-and-the-wasted-collection,
tube-tech-complete-collection-2, vocal-tuner-and-deesser, volume-6,
weiss-complete-collection-3.

5 pre-existing bundle entries were excluded from the safe-add pass so they
cannot accumulate fields on re-import, and are flagged here for removal
rather than extended:

softube-amp-room-marshall-suite.yaml,
softube-chandler-limited-zener-bender.yaml,
softube-icons-the-compressor-collection.yaml,
softube-summit-audio-grand-channel.yaml,
softube-weiss-ds1-mk3.yaml.

Discontinued candidate held, not applied

apply-merge-discontinued.ts was not run, so D=0 and no entry was
retired.

  • data/software/softube-bass-amp-room.yaml — the only candidate. Its own
slug (/us/bass-amp-room) answers 404, but the url the entry carries
(/amp-room) answers 200, because that path is now the Amp Room platform
page. The catalog separately carries softube-amp-room-bass-suite, the
    likely successor. Retire-and-supersede versus keep-as-is needs a person: a
false retirement is silent and permanent, where leaving it costs only
staleness. Filed as a finding (below).

Distogram is Softube's own feature name and smidge is informal but real;
both are reported rather than changed. No supersedes link was resolved
(none met the confidence gate).

On the two io rows: the guard reports conflict because the apply step
was invoked twice; on the first pass io was empty on both entries and was
added as a safe-add, and on the second the guard correctly refused to touch
what was now there. No existing port was rewritten — git show HEAD:<file>
carries no io on either. The newly written ports still deserve a read.

Data review

  • Mode: slim consistency pass over all 136 changed entries (partitioned
across 7 readers, every entry read in full)
  • Auto-fixes applied: ~95 prose edits. All first-person maker voice removed
("our quest" → "Softube's quest"), promo copy deleted ("Hardware
accessories are a hard yes!", #SoftubeSetup, "This saturation plugin is
a knockout!"), and six genuine prose-vs-specs contradictions corrected
    from the entries' own data:
    • amp-room-bass-suite: "13 effects and utilities" → 12
    • amp-room-metal-suite: "seven cabs" → six, "13 effects" → 12
    • dimensions: "six distinctive reverb algorithms" → seven
    • doom-chvrch: spec "stereo delay pedal" → "stereo reverb pedal"
    • console-1-mixing-system-mk-iii-stand: description dropped "rack ears",
      a different SKU
    • model-82-sequencing-mono-synth: "late 80s an early 90s" → "and"
  • First-person voice inside attributed quotations (Cameron Webb, Tony
Platt, Rik Simpson, Jan Hennig, Dan Green, Tony Maserati) was left intact:
rewriting a quote's voice would misattribute it.
  • Remaining notes the pass could not settle from the entry alone, left for a
    reviewer:
    • intellijel-rubicon: specs claim "12 primary waveform types", enumerate 11
    • tube-tech-blue-tone: "eight unique modes" but seven are named
    • valley-people-dyna-mite: first plug-in called both "Dyna-mite Original"
and "Dyna-mite Mk II" in the same entry
    • weiss-eq-mp: "dual seven-band setup" beside "Seven full-range EQ bands"
    • console-1-core-mixing-suite: details say "nine sections", specs
      enumerate six
    • spring-reverb: details say springs "between 1 and 3", specs say spring
      pairs 1 to 3
    • flow-studio: specs DAW list reads "Fender Studio Pro (Studio One)", a
      garbled vendor/product pairing
    • modular: details list Doepfer in both the base set and the premium
      add-ons in one sentence
    • kraft: "included in in Amp Room Marshall Suite" (duplicated word)
    • buchla-259e: details open on "the answer is — pretty twisted.", a
dangling answer to a headline no longer in the entry

Images

  • Discovered: 80 candidates across the 17 new products
  • Auto-selected: 42 (quality gate rejected 38 below 300px shortest side)
  • 1 further image dropped as cross-product: limit-pro had been given
limit-go-high-res-gui.jpg. dropSiteChrome only drops a URL appearing
on 3+ products, so a 2-product overlap passes it.
  • Uploaded: 41 for 17 products, 0 failed
  • Every new product kept at least one image; no no-images rows

The 115-entry url class is deliberately not filed as a finding. Those
pages answer 200 and point at the product's own locale page, so broken-url
would misdescribe them, and no existing kind fits. It is a conflict for this
PR's reviewer rather than a separate task.

Review details

Systems and components

  • observed — data (service) was modified; 136 changed files map to changed impact.

Before / after behavior

  • observed — Modified behavior in data/accessories/softube-console-1-mixing-system-mk-iii-stand.yaml: The USD price amount changes from 99.00 to 99.
  • observed — Modified behavior in data/accessories/softube-console-1-mixing-system-mk-iii-stand.yaml: The brief description of mounting the two units and hiding cables is replaced with expanded product copy. New details and specifications identify the walnut construction, compatible Channel Mk III and Fader Mk III units, included screws and cable strap, and capacity to hold both units at a fixed angle.
  • observed — Modified behavior in data/accessories/softube-console-1-mk-iii-rack-mount-kit.yaml: The amount is written as 59 instead of 59.00; the description keeps the same text but changes from a folded scalar to a plain scalar. A specs block is added with compatibility, rack-mounting, and material details.
  • observed — Modified behavior in data/accessories/softube-single-unit-stand.yaml: Added the Softube Single Unit Stand product record, including its identity and catalog metadata, ergonomic description, compatible Softube hardware, fixed-angle single-unit mounting, and included mounting screws and cable strap.

Place the USD price first only if intended.

firstPrice in scripts/build-catalog-index.ts uses only the first price entry. The EUR-first order therefore makes the index use EUR for this product. Confirm that this currency is intended, or place the USD price first.

- Switchable linear and (for the first time in any module) exponential TZFM (through-zero FM)
- Linear index VCA for dynamic control of TZFM depth
- Symmetry control (full clockwise is normal, full counter-clockwise gives reversed waveforms, centered the VCO is at 0 Hz) with CV
- 12 primary waveform types: sine, sigmoid, double sigmoid, triangle, saw, double saw, zigzag, square, pulse (center modulated), pulse (edge modulated), double pulse

Correct the waveform count or complete the list.

Line 37 says “12 primary waveform types” but names 11. Add the missing waveform if the count is correct. Otherwise, change the count to 11.

Review comment at @data/software/softube-intellijel-rubicon.yaml at line 37:
Update the primary waveform types entry to say 11, matching the 11 waveform
types listed; leave the list unchanged.

Left unchanged. The Softube page itself says "12 primary waveform types" and lists the same 11 names, so the inconsistency is in the maker's copy and the page does not name a twelfth. Changing the count or adding a waveform would be a guess, so the entry mirrors the source. Leaving the thread open in case someone can confirm the missing waveform from the manual.

@jeffreylouden Thanks for clarifying. Changing the count to 11 is not justified by the source. Adding a twelfth waveform would also need evidence.

Keep the source wording unchanged. The count remains unconfirmed pending a manual reference, so this thread should stay open.

Learning: In data/software/softube-intellijel-rubicon.yaml, Softube's product page states “12 primary waveform types” but lists only 11 names. The catalog intentionally mirrors that source. Do not recommend changing the count or adding a waveform without an authoritative reference that resolves the discrepancy.
