Why

When a reader requests a loan from the book page, the return-date calendar opened on the start date. A reader who sent the request without touching either calendar asked for end_date equal to start_date, so the request was for a one-day loan instead of the default duration set in Settings → Loans.

The return-date picker was built from the same options as the start picker, including its defaultDate. The start picker's onChange, which moves the return date forward by the default duration, only runs on a click, so nothing corrected the return date when the reader accepted the suggested start.

The Android app had the same gap from the other side. Its POST /reservations call sets the return date to the start plus the configured loan duration, but the API never told the app what that duration is, so the app promised "about a month" whatever the settings said.

What changes

  • The return-date picker now opens on the suggested start date plus the default loan duration. That duration is already capped by the maximum loan duration, the same cap the server applies when end_date is omitted. If that day is disabled, flatpickr leaves the field empty with its "default duration: N days" placeholder. The request then goes out without end_date, and the server applies the same default.
  • Mobile API 1.8.1: GET /api/v1/catalog/books/{id}/availability also returns loan_duration_days. This is SettingsRepository::loanDurationDays(), the number of days POST /reservations adds to the chosen start (UserActionsController::loan() / reserve()). The field is additive and described in the OpenAPI document. The staff availability route is unchanged. The Android app uses the field to show the return date before the request is sent (Show the return date of a loan request, not "about a month" Pinakes-Android#51).
  • tests/loan-request-default-end.spec.js opens the request without touching the calendars and checks that the return date is the start plus the configured duration, read from the loan settings.
  • tests/mobile-api-behaviors.spec.js (test 15) checks that the availability calendar reports the configured loan duration.
  • tests/role-boundaries-480.unit.php now snapshots the whole advanced and email setting categories and puts them back in its finally block. A failed run had left its probe script on every public page, which broke an unrelated check of the reservations page. A regressed refusal saves the whole tab, not only the probed key.

Ran locally against MariaDB 10.11 with php -S: role-boundaries-480.unit.php passes (ALL 76 PASS, settings identical before and after), as do loan-request-default-end.spec.js and all 30 tests of mobile-api-behaviors.spec.js.

Note: the mobile request path does not cap the default duration at max_loan_duration_days, while the website's request endpoint does. Both only differ when an install sets the default above the maximum, and loan_duration_days reports what the mobile path actually applies.

Summary by CodeRabbit

…tion

The return-date picker of the loan request spread the start picker's options, defaultDate included, so it opened on the start date. The start picker's onChange only fires on a click: a reader who sent the request without touching the calendars asked for end_date = start_date, a one-day loan, instead of the default duration set in the loan settings. The return picker now opens on the start date plus that duration, capped like the server default.

The role-boundaries test now puts the custom JavaScript and the SMTP host back in its finally block. A failed run had left its probe script on every public page of the local install, which broke the reservations page check of the loan suite.

ℹ️ No critical issues — one minor suggestion inline.

Reviewed changes

I reviewed the default return date in the loan-request popup, the new E2E regression, and the cleanup added to the role-boundaries test.

  • End picker default — #swal-date-end now opens on suggestedDate + defaultRequestLoanDays instead of inheriting the start date. That matches what ReservationsController computes when end_date is omitted (start + min(loan_duration_days, max_loan_duration_days)), and FrontendController applies the same cap to defaultRequestLoanDays. If the default end falls on a disabled day, flatpickr drops it and the server falls back to the same default, so that edge behaves as before. Existing specs that set the start through _flatpickr.setDate(iso, true) already went through onChange and are unaffected.
  • Regression spec — tests/loan-request-default-end.spec.js opens the popup without touching either calendar. It then checks that the return date equals the start plus the configured duration, read from system_settings with the same cap.
  • Test hygiene — the finally block of role-boundaries-480.unit.php now restores custom_js_essential and smtp_host if a refusal check fails.

POST /reservations of the Mobile API sets the return date to the chosen start plus the
configured loan duration (UserActionsController::loan() and reserve()), but nothing told the
app how long that is: it promised "about a month" whatever the loan settings said.
GET /catalog/books/{id}/availability, which the app already calls when it opens the request
calendar, now carries loan_duration_days, so the app can show the return date before the
reader sends the request. The field is additive; the OpenAPI document describes it and the
plugin moves to 1.8.1.

tests/mobile-api-behaviors.spec.js checks that the calendar reports the configured duration.

✅ No new issues found in the new commit. The earlier suggestion on tests/role-boundaries-480.unit.php is still open, so this review does not approve.

Reviewed changes

Since the last review, the Mobile API reports the loan duration that a request adds to its start date.

  • loan_duration_days on availability: CatalogController::bookAvailability now adds SettingsRepository::loanDurationDays() to the calendar payload. I checked this against both branches of ActionsController::requestReservation. UserActionsController::loan() adds the duration to today. reserve() adds it to the chosen date, or to today when no date is sent. Both fall back to 30 days for values below 1, and neither applies max_loan_duration_days. So the field matches what the app will receive. The PR description notes the uncapped difference from the website.
  • Contract and version: the OpenAPI description and response schema list the field as an integer with minimum: 1. plugin.json moves to 1.8.1 and adds a changelog entry.
  • Behavior test: test 15 in tests/mobile-api-behaviors.spec.js compares the field with the stored setting and falls back to 30. This matches PHP's (int) fallback, since dbInt returns 0 or NaN when the setting is missing or invalid.

…ies test

The finally block restored only the two probed keys. A refusal that regresses saves the
whole tab: updateAdvancedSettings also writes the other custom scripts, the header CSS and
the session lifetime, updateEmailSettings the driver, port and sender. The test now keeps
both categories (with their descriptions) before it starts and puts them back as they were,
the way it already does for the cookie banner.

✅ No new issues found. The earlier suggestion on the role-boundaries cleanup is addressed.

Reviewed changes

Since the last review, the role-boundaries test puts back every setting a failed refusal could overwrite.

  • Full-category snapshot: tests/role-boundaries-480.unit.php reads every advanced and email row, including description, before the outer try. The finally block deletes both categories and reinserts the snapshot, the same way the cookie-banner block does. A regressed updateAdvancedSettings or updateEmailSettings can no longer leave other keys of those tabs behind for later suites. $savedJs and $savedHost are still used by the refusal assertions, so keeping them is correct.

CodeRabbit's docstring check counted the three helpers of the new spec (dbQuery, setting,
addDays) as undocumented: 40% against the repository's 60% threshold. Each now says what it
returns, and setting() notes it mirrors the server's fallback for a value below 1.

…aries test

The DELETE and the reinserts of the advanced and email categories now run in
one transaction. A failed insert rolls back the DELETE, the original error is
kept even if the rollback fails, and the config cache is cleared either way.

✅ No new issues found.

Reviewed changes

Since the last review, the role-boundaries test puts the guarded settings back in a single transaction.

  • Atomic restore: tests/role-boundaries-480.unit.php now wraps the DELETE and the reinserts of the advanced and email snapshot in begin_transaction()/commit(). On any Throwable it rolls back, ignores a failing rollback and rethrows the original error. ConfigStore::clearCache() runs in the inner finally. The rollback works as intended: mysqli_report(MYSQLI_REPORT_ERROR | MYSQLI_REPORT_STRICT) at the top of the script turns a failed execute() into an exception, and system_settings is InnoDB. The catch (\Throwable) with no variable is fine on the required PHP ^8.2.
