Description

Three refinements found while using deslop as the final style pass on legal memos and briefs, plus an optional quick profile.

  1. Count sentence length without citations (rule 3). Rule 3 already said to exclude quotations and citations from the count but gave no method. In citation-dense memos, most sentences flagged as over 30 words were long only because of record and case cites. The new bullet says what to set aside before counting.
  2. A long sentence is a flag, not an order (rule 3). Splitting a long sentence can detach a condition from the right it limits. The new bullet allows a split only when every condition and qualification stays attached, and asks the agent to list long sentences it kept whole and why.
  3. Generated documents (rule 16). When a template or document-assembly tool sets the final typography, the agent should edit only the words and note conflicts, instead of adding font or alignment markup the tool will override.
  4. Quick profile (new section after the Action Plan). A mechanics-only pass for memos, briefs, and letters: runs rules 3, 4, 5, 10–15, 17, 19, and 20, always applies section III, skips rules 1, 2, 6, 16, 18, 21, and 22, and names the skipped rules in the audit table. The Action Plan points to it, and the README mentions it.

Affected: SKILL.md §I rule 3, §V rule 16, Action Plan step 2, new Quick Profile section; samples/comparison.md section 19 (new pair) and new sections 21–23; README.md (one line).

Type of Change

  • Bug fix (non-breaking change that fixes an agent translation failure)
  • New style directive/rule (adds a new plain English guideline)
  • Rule refinement (polishes or clarifies an existing guideline)
  • Example addition (adds new before/after samples)
  • Documentation update

Checklist

  • I have read the CONTRIBUTING.md document.
  • My rule changes have been added to SKILL.md.
  • I have provided corresponding before-and-after examples in samples/comparison.md.
  • I have verified that the new language preserves essential legal mechanisms and terms of art.
  • The text is gender-neutral and follows modern professional drafting standards.

CodeAnt-AI Description

Add a quick legal-editing profile and clarify sentence-length checks

What Changed

  • Sentence-length checks set citations aside before counting and split long sentences only when their conditions and qualifications stay attached; the audit explains long sentences kept intact.
  • For documents whose templates control typography, the agent edits words only and notes formatting conflicts instead of adding markup the template may override.
  • A quick profile for legal memos, briefs, and letters runs a focused set of mechanics checks, preserves terms of art and quotations, and identifies skipped rules in its audit.

Impact

✅ Fewer false sentence-length flags in citation-heavy writing
✅ Legal conditions stay attached when sentences are revised
✅ Focused mechanics reviews for memos, briefs, and letters
