What kind of change does this PR introduce?

Documentation (cloud limits and channel management). cloud/limits.mdx no longer tells users to free a slot by disabling a channel; it now says to delete one, and states explicitly that a disabled channel is still connected and counts against the cap. general/channels/manage.mdx ("Disable vs delete") now says the same for cloud, and its self-hosted note was reworded so it no longer implies disabling frees anything. The plans and downgrade pages are unchanged.

Why was this change needed?

The channel limit check in the backend counts every non-deleted channel, disabled or not; only deleting frees a slot. Both pages have said the opposite since the docs overhaul in August 2026, and the support AI agent cites them, so a customer who disabled channels to connect new ones was told by the docs and the bot that this should work, then hit the limit error anyway.

QA

  1. Run npx mint dev and open /cloud/limits#channels
  2. Under the "You have reached the maximum number of channels" quote, the "Free a slot" paragraph points to Delete and says disabling does not free a slot
  3. Open /general/channels/manage#disable-vs-delete: the Disable paragraph says a disabled channel still counts against the cap on cloud
  4. The self-hosted note below it reads naturally and no longer mentions freeing slots
  5. Both pages render without broken links or layout changes

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Documentation
    • Clarified that disabled channels continue to count toward cloud channel limits.
    • Updated guidance to explain that deleting an unused channel is required to free capacity.
    • Clarified the different effects of disabling and deleting channels in self-hosted deployments.

The limits page told users to free a slot by disabling a channel, and the
manage page called disabling the right choice "when you need to free a
slot". The channel limit check counts every non-deleted channel, disabled
or not, so only deleting frees a slot. Both passages now say so.

📝 Walkthrough

The documentation now states that disabled cloud channels count toward the channel cap and that deleting a channel frees a slot. Self-hosted guidance describes disabling a channel as keeping it available for later use.

Before / after behavior

  • observed — Modified behavior in cloud/limits.mdx: Replaced instructions to disable an unused channel with instructions to delete it; clarified that disabled channels remain connected and count against the channel cap.
  • observed — Modified behavior in general/channels/manage.mdx: Clarifies that disabled cloud channels continue counting against the plan’s channel cap, while only deletion frees a slot.
  • observed — Modified behavior in general/channels/manage.mdx: Updates the self-hosted guidance to describe the distinction as retaining the channel for later use, rather than only taking it out of service.

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Reconcile the channel-cap exception with the new rule.

The page states that disabled channels count against the cap, but it also says that channels requiring reconnection do not count. If the backend counts every non-deleted channel, remove or update that exception. Otherwise, narrow this statement to the backend’s actual exclusions.
