Owner

Adds a Signed commits section to this repo's CONTRIBUTING, per owner ruling D218. The estate policy is docs/SIGNING-POLICY.adoc in hyperpolymath/standards.

This repo's default branch is covered by the zero-bypass Require-Signed-Commits ruleset, and rebase-merge is off. The section tells contributors what that requires:

  • People and interactive agents sign with an SSH signing key.
  • Apps, bots and workflows write through the API, so GitHub signs their commits.
  • PRs are merged with squash.

If the file already had its own signing section, that section is replaced in place instead of adding a second one. Lines elsewhere that told people to sign with GPG are changed to match the policy (SSH for people).

This is a docs-only change. The commit was created through createCommitOnBranch, so GitHub signs it.

📝 Summary

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Documentation
    • Updated contribution guidance to require signed commits on the default branch. Unsigned commits are rejected and must be corrected before a pull request can be merged.
    • Added instructions for signing commits with a registered GitHub SSH key and verified committer email. Apps, bots and workflows must use the documented API or action to create signed commits.
    • Clarified that pull requests must be squash-merged; rebase-merging is unavailable.

Walkthrough

The contribution guides now document signed-commit requirements, signing methods for different commit authors, and pull request merge rules.

Changes

Signed Commit Policy

Layer / File(s) Summary
Signing requirements and merge rules
.github/CONTRIBUTING.md, CONTRIBUTING.adoc
Both guides state that commits must be signed. They describe signing methods for people, interactive agents, apps, bots and workflows. They also specify squash merging, unsigned-commit restrictions and disabled rebase merging.

Priority: ⬇️ Low

Estimated code review effort: 1 (Trivial) | ~5 minutes

Change: Other

Merge Risk: 🔵 Low · up to 10cad

Contributors are told to create a replacement PR even though signed replacement commits can update the existing review. This is a bounded workflow issue; correcting that guidance would avoid unnecessary PR duplication.

Security Architecture Review

Security architecture risk: ⚪ Minimal · up to 10cad

The change documents signing responsibilities without adding executable behavior, granting privileges, or changing deployment configuration. No introduced security concern was identified. Actual enforcement of the documented GitHub controls was not verified.

Retained concerns
No architecture-level concerns identified.

Security Blast Radius

  • inferred — The demonstrated exposure is contributor guidance for this repository. The documentation does not itself grant automation credentials or alter repository authorization.

Trust Boundaries and Controls

  • observed — The policy distinguishes locally signed human and interactive-agent commits from GitHub-signed automation commits. It specifies provenance requirements but does not establish what credentials, permissions, or identity checks the automation paths actually use.
