K-CUT theorem family audit, grade-3 gate alignment, and epistemic-types integration plan - #38
This PR contains the results of a comprehensive audit of the K-CUT theorem family, grade-3 gate alignment with the estate canonical gate, and an integration plan for upstream epistemic-types interfaces.
…ditions
State the complete K-CUT-WARRANT claim as a reviewed theorem statement
(WarrantClaim.agda), separating three components:
C1 (grade equality): PROVEN from K-CUT-LOSS and frame factivity.
Evidence: Kripke knowledge. No extra hypothesis needed.
C2 (grade bound): PROVEN with hypothesis H4 (Each (𝟙 ≼_) G or
Each (_≼ 𝟙) G). Evidence: knowledge of the bound.
C3 (data warrant): CONDITIONAL on receiver-local side condition H5.
The receiver provides Evidence : Set and sound : Evidence → φ w.
NOT type-determined: external assumption.
Receiver-local side condition stated precisely as ReceiverLocalSideCondition
record. Gap documented: the type provides warrant structure and
type-determined evidence but not data-dependent evidence or soundness.
epistemic-types CertificateCheck provides vocabulary but not the checker.
No assumed warrant turned into a proved fact. General K-CUT claims
remain marked open.

Define grade, measure, and index terminology precisely, using
tropical-types (Lean 4) as read-only provenance reference for the
algebraic vocabulary. Derive one-step bound propagation theorems
(GS-1, GS-2) and the projection theorem (GS-3) from the declared
semantics.
Negative result (GS-4): the unrestricted measure is NOT compositional
under reordering for non-commutative ⊗. Recorded as a consequence of
existing results A-1 (restricted measure order-independent) and A-3
(HWM unrestricted measure order-dependent). Abstract right-cancellation
requires ⊗-right-unit, not in the base algebra (K-4). Concrete witness
at HWM (A-3). No postulates introduced; no cross-prover bridge claimed.
tropical-types proof witnesses (Dioid.lean: canonicalLe partial order,
monotonicity) are provenance; Agda IsOrdered carries local verification.
Bridge obligation M-2 recorded, not discharged.
Co-authored-by: arena-agent <297053741+arena-agent@users.noreply.github.com>
Make Independent₂ explicit: disjoint footprints (I1), phase safety
(I2), cross-stepping (I3). Deterministic tie-breaking (I4) noted as
scheduler concern, not type concern.
Commuting square under Independent₂: restatement of A-5/A-6 with
explicit conditions (I2-1, I2-2).
outside-invisible (I2-3): under disjoint footprints, each party is
outside at least one event, so the commuting is vacuous from every
party's viewpoint. The degeneracy is the structural reason the
diamond holds.
Second projection pattern (I2-4): shared sender and shared receiver
both fail projection-equivalence. send 1 ≢ send 2 and recv 0 ≢ recv 1
at the head. Disjointness is NECESSARY, not sufficient.
Conclusion: degeneracy is essential, not incidental. The two-event
K-CUT-LOSS diamond holds only for disjoint events. General K-CUT
claims remain OPEN.

Walkthrough
Adds four Agda modules for echo projection, warrant claims, grading semantics, and two-event independence. Imports them through All.agda, updates Agda gate flags, and adds proof-status entries and research documentation.
Changes: Proof research and gate updates
Layer / File(s)
Summary
Echo projection and commuting results src/Choreographic/Base/EchoProjection.agda, PROOF-STATUS.adoc
Adds grade-indexed and local echo families, transport and degradation operations, commuting proofs, and a two-event example. The status record notes that these results do not close the role-transport item.
Grade and data warrants src/Choreographic/WarrantClaim.agda, PROOF-STATUS.adoc
Adds grade equality and bound warrants, plus data warrants that require receiver-local evidence and a soundness proof. The complete record combines grade equality and data components; bound warrants remain separate.
Grade measures and bound propagation src/Choreographic/GradingSemantics.agda, PROOF-STATUS.adoc
Adds message and choice bound propagation, projection equality, and lower- and upper-bound transfer. Records that unrestricted measure reordering can fail for non-commutative sequencing.
Two-event independence and counterexamples src/Choreographic/Independent2.agda, PROOF-STATUS.adoc
Adds a commuting-square result for disjoint events, projection invisibility for outside parties, and shared-sender and shared-receiver counterexamples. The general non-disjoint K-CUT claim remains open.
Module integration, proof gate, and repository records src/Choreographic/All.agda, ARCHITECTURE.adoc, README.adoc, scripts/*, docs/CHANGELOG-entry.adoc, docs/kcut-audit-2026-11-01.md, docs/toolchain-and-prompts-2026-11-01.md
Imports the four modules and updates Agda flags in the gate, scripts, and README. Adds a changelog entry, K-CUT audit, and toolchain and repository-status records.
Three of the four new proof modules cannot compile: they use names before importing them, and one also contains unparseable separator lines. Because the aggregate module imports all of them, the repository's proof check fails as soon as it runs. Several documented results also claim more than the proofs establish, and the repository checker silently skips the new ledger rows. Fix the compile errors and correct the overstated claims before merging.

Require an inhabited token for the data warrant
The side condition contains only an evidence type and a function out of it, not an actual evidence token. For any uninhabited claim, a caller can choose Evidence = ⊥ and define sound by elimination, after which mkComplete constructs the advertised complete data warrant even though the receiver has no evidence. This also contradicts the later statement that evidence tokens are part of the external side condition; add an evidence : Evidence field or weaken the claim so it does not imply the receiver can substantiate φ w.
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
Limit the conclusion to disjointness being sufficient
The shared-sender and shared-receiver examples show only that removing disjointness permits counterexamples; they do not prove disjointness is necessary or that every shared party breaks projection equivalence. For example, two occurrences of the same event msg 0 1 g (msg 0 1 g end) share both parties, yet exchanging those identical events leaves the global state and every projection unchanged. The conclusion should say that disjointness is sufficient and cannot be dropped without replacement conditions, rather than claiming necessity.
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
Restrict the negative result to the witnessed algebra
A-3 supplies a concrete order-sensitive witness only for HWM, so it does not establish this claim for every non-commutative resource algebra. Non-commutativity gives grades a and b with a ⊗ b ≢ b ⊗ a, while the unrestricted global measure compares (a ⊗ b) ⊗ grade G with (b ⊗ a) ⊗ grade G; without the right-unit or cancellation laws explicitly noted below, those latter values may coincide. State the result existentially/concretely for HWM, or add the extra algebraic hypothesis needed for the universal claim.
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
Reconcile the upstream interface audit
This answers the interface-import question with “NO,” but the same commit's docs/toolchain-and-prompts-2026-11-01.md states that epistemic-types@5422cd5 has EpistemicTypes.Kripke.Indexed and even gives the intended import; this audit's own context also says that revision supplies world-indexed Kripke records. The audit silently switches to the older pinned 495db9c when justifying its answer, so readers are incorrectly told that the interface does not exist rather than that the current pin must be updated.
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
Prove the disjointness-to-invisibility step
The ledger marks the structural I2-3 conclusion as proven, but outside-invisible only handles one event after the caller independently supplies p ≢ src e and p ≢ dst e. No definition consumes Antichain2 e₁ e₂ to prove that every p is outside at least one event, so the key step used to conclude that Independent₂ trivializes the square remains only a comment. Add and use the missing disjunction lemma, or stop recording the composite structural claim as proven.
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
Make the diamond theorem depend on a diamond
Despite its name and I2-2 description, this theorem accepts only one two-step path: it has no Independent₂, disjointness, alternate path, or second final state. The delegated two-thread-kcut-loss proof ignores both steps and is simply K-CUT-LOSS for the target t, so this declaration can be invoked for arbitrary non-independent sequential events and establishes no fact across a commuting diamond. Either state the result for both endpoints under Independent₂ or rename it as an ordinary target-state projection theorem.

**Finding:** choreographic-types Kripke.agda is NOT a copy of upstream. It is an **instantiation** of the upstream vocabulary (Warrant, SoundWarrant) for the specific case of choreographic cuts. The frame definition (World, accessibility, Knows) is local because epistemic-types provides only the abstract interface, not a concrete Kripke frame.
**Recommendation:** Do NOT attempt to import an upstream Kripke interface because it does not exist. The current structure is correct: choreographic-types imports the vocabulary (Warrant, SoundWarrant, Preorder, AccessibleModality) and instantiates it for its own frame.

Limit the disjointness conclusion to the proved guarantee.
The shared-sender and shared-receiver examples show that dropping I1 can break projection-equivalence. They do not show that disjointness is necessary in every case. Do not present these projections as a failed commuting square.
The inequality proves that the two written global types have different projections. It does not provide the four Step witnesses required by commuting-square. For the shared-sender example, Step cannot fire the nested 0 ⇒ 2 event from G: pass requires disjoint parties, and both events use sender 0. Describe this as a failed static swap, or supply a reachable operational counterexample before claiming that the diamond fails. (raw.githubusercontent.com)

Review comment at @src/Choreographic/Independent2.agda around lines 224 - 226:
Revise the comments describing the projection inequality to call it a failed
static swap, not a failed commuting square; the inequality alone does not
establish the Step witnesses required by commuting-square, and pass cannot fire
the nested event because both events use sender 0.

Keep the K-CUT-LOSS claim separate from the diamond condition.
kcut-loss-across-diamond requires two sequential steps and final-state Projectable; it does not require disjoint events. Its underlying theorem states the same contract. Line 275 therefore incorrectly says K-CUT-LOSS holds only for disjoint events. Limit that qualification to the commuting-square theorem, and correct the matching proof-status conclusion. Update the comment around kcut-loss-across-diamond to state that its K-CUT-LOSS
claim requires sequential steps and final-state Projectable, not disjoint
events; limit the disjoint-events qualification to the commuting-square theorem
and correct the matching proof-status conclusion.

Supported by static analysis
Script executed:
grep -n 'import\|^module' src/Choreographic/WarrantClaim.agda | head -30
Repository: hyperpolymath/choreographic-types
Length of output: 805
Move the ResourceAlgebra and IsOrdered imports above the module header.
Line 111 uses ResourceAlgebra and IsOrdered in the parameter list of module Choreographic.WarrantClaim. The file does not import either name before that line. Agda resolves the parameter types before it processes the open import lines in the body, so this module cannot type-check.
Import the modules that define ResourceAlgebra and IsOrdered before the header. Keep the Choreographic.* imports after the header, because they take R or ord as arguments.

Add the imports that define ResourceAlgebra and IsOrdered before the
Choreographic.WarrantClaim module header so its parameter types are in scope;
keep the Choreographic imports that depend on R or ord inside the module body.

Comment out the four section separators.
These bare ==== lines are invalid Agda declarations. Agda cannot parse WarrantClaim.agda, so the aggregate proof gate cannot check the new warrants. Prefix each separator with --. The gate checks the aggregate module. (raw.githubusercontent.com)

Comment out each of the four bare section separator lines in the WarrantClaim
module so Agda can parse the aggregate proof module; leave the surrounding
declarations unchanged.
