Phase 0: make the status surfaces true (vocarium) - #42
Phase 0 of the trope-stack plan ("make the truth legible"): reconcile this repo's status surfaces with what actually runs. Tasks V1–V2 of the Phase 0 brief (V3 is filed as an issue, not changed here). One commit per task. Documentation only; no code changed.
V1AFFIRMATION.adoc — the estate template is filled. The two executable claims (zig build test; the invoke-slice gate tests/e2e/invoke_slice.sh) are marked NOT RUN here with the exact command and the reason: the session could not execute Zig 0.16.0 (ziglang.org and all community mirrors were unreachable through the proxy; a checksummed conda-forge 0.16.0 binary was fetched but the session's permission classifier refused to run it). The CI workflow vocarium-ci.yml (mlugg/setup-zig pinned to 0.16.0 → zig build test → the gate) is named as the attestation; its run on this PR is cited below once it completes. The store-format / wire-boundary claim is "affirmed (by reading)". "What we do NOT claim": evoke/convoke/transvoke/provoke/revoke, the M2 StoreProvider adapter, Haec ingestion, neighbours, and that nothing of voc was executed in the session. The gate's own checker pin 69221ad6 is recorded.
V2README.adoc — new ## Where this repo sits with the five-repo map paragraph, verbatim.
Nothing of voc was run in the authoring session; the AFFIRMATION says so in each row rather than copying a result. The checks that were run elsewhere in the same session and that this repo's claims depend on: tropecheck-rs built from trope-checker 44020f9; its conformance corpus 13 + 9 passing.
Not run: zig build test; TROPECHECK_BIN=<tropecheck-rs> bash tests/e2e/invoke_slice.sh. Expected from CI: GATE PASS: invoke slice proven (use-relativity + warrant door + unit tests).
…CI attests
What was wrong: AFFIRMATION.adoc was the unfilled estate template.
What changed: the template instructions are deleted; the claims table has the
two executable claims (zig build test; the invoke-slice gate) marked NOT RUN
here with the exact command, the reason, and the CI workflow that runs them on
every push (vocarium-ci.yml, mlugg/setup-zig pinned to 0.16.0); the store
format / wire-boundary claim is marked affirmed-by-reading; "What we do NOT
claim" names evoke/convoke/transvoke/provoke/revoke, the M2 adapter, Haec
ingestion, neighbours, and that nothing of voc was executed in the session. The
gate's own checker pin 69221ad6 is recorded (bypassed when TROPECHECK_BIN is
set; bump tracked as an issue, not changed here).
What I ran: nothing of voc. The session could not run Zig 0.16.0: ziglang.org
and every community mirror were unreachable through the proxy; a checksummed
conda-forge 0.16.0 binary was fetched but its execution was refused by the
session's permission classifier.
What I did not run: zig build test; tests/e2e/invoke_slice.sh — the CI run on
this branch is cited in the pull request.

What was wrong: the README had the ecology list but not the five-repo map with
the dependency facts (HC-1; ADR-0002 wire-not-link).
What changed: a "## Where this repo sits" section with the paragraph verbatim,
placed before "Relationship to other systems".
What I ran: n/a (prose only).
What I did not run: n/a.

Updated the project affirmation with a date, specific claims and supporting evidence, plus verifiable project and toolchain details. It distinguishes checks attested by CI from claims confirmed by review, notes that Zig was not run during the writing session, and records features that remain unimplemented.
Clarified how the vocabulary and store/query tracks relate, including that Vocarium and Hermeneia connect through the M2 adapter rather than directly.
The generic affirmation template is replaced with a dated Vocarium affirmation. The README gains a section describing the repository tracks, their dependencies and the M2 StoreProvider adapter.

Summary
Vocarium affirmation record AFFIRMATION.adoc
The document records the epistemic contract, three project claims and their evidence, known non-claims, and repository and toolchain details for the 2026-10-27 snapshot.
Repository track overview README.adoc
A new section describes the vocabulary and store/query tracks, states that trope-checker and the workbench have no dependencies, and identifies the M2 StoreProvider adapter as the connection between Vocarium and Hermeneia.
The documentation needs minor accuracy corrections, but this documentation-only change has no material runtime merge risk.

Full details: Title check
Explanation
The title "Phase 0: make the status surfaces true (vocarium)" is specific to the changeset. The PR updates AFFIRMATION.adoc and README.adoc to reconcile status claims with what actually runs, as Phase 0 tasks V1–V2. The title names the phase and the goal, though it does not name the two files or the affirmation document. It is partly jargon-dependent, since "Phase 0" refers to an external plan, but a teammate reading the history can see it is a documentation-only status change.
Full details: Description check
Explanation
The description follows the template structure: Summary, Changes, RSR Quality Checklist, Testing, and Screenshots are all present. The Summary explains the purpose and links sibling PRs and deferred issues. Changes lists V1 and V2 with file-level detail and notes V3 is deferred. The checklist accurately marks the unrun Zig tests as unchecked and explains why. The Testing section states what was not run and gives expected CI output. The template's Owner-only items section is an addition, not a template gap. The description does not use the "Closes #N" form, but no issue is closed by this PR, so that omission is acceptable. The template's SPDX and license-related items are addressed. The description is detailed and transparent about unverified claims.

What was wrong: the two NOT RUN rows pointed at "the run on this branch" in the
abstract.
What changed: both rows now cite vocarium-ci.yml run 40472451463 (job
"invoke-slice gate", success, 2026-10-27T08:17Z), which ran `zig build test` and
tests/e2e/invoke_slice.sh under mlugg/setup-zig 0.16.0 on this branch's head.
The rows stay NOT RUN here: the attestation is CI's, not this session's.
What I ran: nothing locally (see above).
What I did not run: zig build test; the gate — unchanged.

Green, and the one that matters for V1:invoke-slice gate — zig build test + tests/e2e/invoke_slice.sh under mlugg/setup-zig 0.16.0: https://github.com/hyperpolymath/vocarium/actions/runs/40472451463. The AFFIRMATION's two NOT RUN rows now cite this run (follow-up commit ae80eec). Also green: SonarCloud, CodeQL, lint, docs, check, estate-rules, openssf, DEED/K9 manifests, semgrep, GitGuardian, panic-attack.
Red, already red on main, not touched by this docs-only diff:
…stamp, pin drift noted
What was wrong (review findings on #42): the JSONL union used raw `|` inside a
PSV table cell, splitting the row; the CI sentence said "on every push" (the
workflow runs on pushes to main, pull requests and dispatch); the attestation
rows named a run but not the tested commit or completion time; "Timestamp (UTC)"
was a bare date; the footer asked readers to match the base SHA against the
introducing commit; `<tropecheck-rs>` is not shell-safe; "pinned Zig 0.16.0"
ignored that mise.toml says `zig = "latest"`.
What changed: tags written as a list; trigger scope stated; run 40472451463 on
commit 71c4374, success, 2026-10-27T08:17:46Z in both NOT RUN rows and the anchor;
"Commit (SHA) tested" + "Landing commit" rows with a matching footer;
`/path/to/tropecheck-rs` marked as a placeholder; the toolchain row records the
mise.toml drift (issue filed) alongside the .tool-versions pin the gate enforces.
What I ran: n/a (prose); the CI run cited is unchanged.
What I did not run: zig build test; the gate — unchanged (NOT RUN here).

Head is 30a0aea. The invoke-slice gate is green (run 40472451463 on 71c4374, cited in the AFFIRMATION); the only red is the Hypatia scan, red on main too (#45).
Changed on review (Codex + CodeRabbit, 11 threads; 10 resolved): record tags written without pipes (the PSV table was being split); the CI sentence states the real triggers; both NOT RUN rows and the anchor cite the run, the tested commit and the completion time 2026-10-27T08:17:46Z; "Commit (SHA) tested" vs "Landing commit" with a matching footer; /path/to/tropecheck-rs; the toolchain row records that mise.toml says zig = "latest" against .tool-versions 0.16.0 (#46).
Left open, deferred to the owner: the thread asking for the landing commit to be signed — signing is the owner's act on landing.
Not run here:zig build test, the gate — unchanged; CI attests both. Deferred:#43 (A2ML), #44 (TROPECHECK_PIN bump after trope-checker #102 lands), #45 (Hypatia), #46 (mise pin).
…s prospective
Review round 2 (Codex) on PR #42: "Commit (SHA) tested" is now 71c4374, the
commit the cited gate run actually ran on, with 57944e6 recorded separately
as the affirmed `main` base; "is landed by a signed commit" becomes "is to be
landed ... the owner signs on landing", true before and after landing.

Same correction Codex made on hermeneia #76: AFFIRMATION.adoc predates this
snapshot as a template, so "the commit that introduces this file" selected
nothing useful. The anchor and footer now say the signed commit that lands
the snapshot on main is found with
`git log --first-parent --show-signature -1 main -- AFFIRMATION.adoc`.

The task will inspect the CI failures, validate its fix, and commit the fix to this branch automatically.
Note: Fixing CI failures is a beta feature and may encounter errors. Expect some limitations and changes as we gather feedback and continue to improve it.
This reverts commit d245ec5, pushed to this
branch by the CodeRabbit CI-fix agent.
Why: it renames .machine_readable/6a2 to descriptiles and edits 40+ files under
.machine_readable/ — paths the Phase 0 brief keeps owner-only, and an estate
rename the doctrine says to stop and check before making. It also regressed
`openssf-compliance` on this PR: that workflow requires
.machine_readable/6a2/STATE.a2ml (run 40495812965, job 122160844845). The tree
returns to 5f22037 (the reviewed Phase 0 head); the reverted commit stays in
history for the owner to take up separately if wanted. Hypatia stays red as
before (issue #45).

Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01J4QvDh3p24SCUjyM9HHT31
It regressed openssf-compliance on this PR, which hard-requires .machine_readable/6a2/STATE.a2ml (job 122160844845). That check was green on 5f22037.
It edits 40+ files under .machine_readable/ and renames an estate-wide directory. That is outside this docs-only Phase 0 PR and in owner-only territory.
The tree is now identical to 5f22037, so the PR diff is AFFIRMATION.adoc and README.adoc again. The reverted commit stays in history if the owner wants the rename as its own PR. Hypatia stays red as before; that is pre-existing and tracked in #45.

Include the production build command in the evidence.
This row claims that voc builds and that its unit tests pass, but the evidence names only zig build test. The gate runs zig build separately before checking zig-out/bin/voc. Add zig build to the evidence or cite the complete gate script. (raw.githubusercontent.com)

Update the evidence row in AFFIRMATION.adoc to include the production build
command alongside zig build test, or cite the complete gate script that runs
both commands before checking zig-out/bin/voc.

Do not present the override command as the CI reproduction.
CI runs ./tests/e2e/invoke_slice.sh without TROPECHECK_BIN. Setting TROPECHECK_BIN bypasses the script’s pinned checker and permits any executable. Use the exact CI command for reproduction, or label this as a separate local check. (raw.githubusercontent.com)

Update the reproduction command in the affirmation to match CI by showing
`./tests/e2e/invoke_slice.sh` without `TROPECHECK_BIN`; alternatively, clearly
label the override command as a separate local check rather than CI
reproduction.

Align the evidence rule with the reading-only claim.
The introduction says that every claim is tied to a command. This row is explicitly affirmed (by reading) and cites source files. Change the rule to allow a command or a named source, or make this claim executable. (raw.githubusercontent.com)

Update the evidence rule in the introduction to allow claims to be supported by
either a command or a named source, so the reading-based affirmation citing
source files conforms without changing the append-only JSONL store-format claim.

Make the schema citation resolvable from this repository.
The citation trope-checker/schemas/trope-ir.schema.json does not resolve inside this repository. The gate clones trope-checker into .gate-tools/trope-checker only when TROPECHECK_BIN is unset. Without that clone, the cited schema is not available.
The section also states that the checker pin 69221ad6bec0c9286cb5c917edfad281e7e0089e predates the spec v0.2 consolidation. A citation to that pinned revision may therefore describe a schema that differs from the Trope IR v0.2 contract this section relies on. Cite an external schema URL that names the exact revision that contains the v0.2 schema. State that the gate pin is older and that its bump is tracked in issue #44.

| Toolchain | Zig 0.16.0 pinned in `.tool-versions`, which the gate enforces; `mise.toml` still says `zig = "latest"` — a drift the gate would reject, to be reconciled (issue). Checker for the gate: `tropecheck-rs` from trope-checker (script pin `69221ad6`; the session's binary was built from 44020f9). Zig was not executed in this session (see above).

Correct the mise.toml enforcement statement.
The gate reads .tool-versions and compares zig version; it does not inspect mise.toml. It may reject an environment that resolves zig = "latest" to the wrong version, but it cannot reject the configuration line itself. Reword this distinction. (raw.githubusercontent.com)

Reword the Zig toolchain statement in the AFFIRMATION entry to clarify that the
gate checks `.tool-versions` against `zig version` and does not inspect
`mise.toml`; state that resolving `zig = "latest"` to an incompatible version
may cause the check to fail.

## Summary
Phase 0 of the trope-stack plan ("make the truth legible"): one
ground-truthed table for the whole stack, and the research programme
brought into step with the consolidated calculus (spec v0.2, ADR 0005
Proposed). Tasks W1–W2 of the Phase 0 brief. One commit per task.
Documentation only.
Sibling PRs: [trope-checker
#102](hyperpolymath/trope-checker#102) · [haec
#81](hyperpolymath/haec#81) · [hermeneia
#76](hyperpolymath/hermeneia#76) · [vocarium
#42](hyperpolymath/vocarium#42). Suggested
landing order: trope-checker, this one, haec, hermeneia, vocarium.
## Changes
- **W1** `docs/status/STATE-OF-THE-STACK.adoc` (new, CC-BY-SA-4.0) — one
table, one row per repo: status · what exists · obligations it owns ·
proof/test citations · ground-truth command · last verified; the
five-repo map paragraph; a Known gaps list (A2ML still in
haec/hermeneia/vocarium; vocarium's checker pin `69221ad6`; this repo's
stuck Pages run and cancelled Secret scan; Lean not run in the Phase 0
session). Linked from `README.adoc` "Where to go next".
- **W2** `docs/status/RESEARCH-PROGRAMME.adoc` — "four-prover
verification stack" → "three-prover (Agda, Idris2, Lean) verification
stack plus a Rust fast core"; WP-2 gains a Status line (delivered: O5 is
defined in `trope-checker/spec/calculus.adoc §10`, ADR 0005,
ratification pending); one sentence puts O6 (the ceiling verdict) on the
spine as the security-facing obligation; the References caveat about
stale checker status files becomes "Current as of 2026-10-27";
`:revnumber:` 0.3, `:revdate:` 2026-10-27. ("gated by O4" does not occur
in the file.)
`docs/theory/formalisms/defining-o5-veridicality-oracle.adoc` Status
section now opens with "Adopted into trope-checker spec §10 on
2026-10-13 (ADR 0005, pending owner ratification)."
## RSR Quality Checklist
### Required
- [x] Tests pass (`bash tests/check-vocabulary.sh` → nine effects
consistent)
- [x] Code is formatted (no code)
- [x] Linter is clean (no code)
- [x] No banned language patterns
- [x] No `unsafe` blocks (n/a)
- [x] No banned functions (n/a)
- [x] SPDX license headers present on all new/modified source files
- [x] No secrets, credentials, or `.env` files included
### As Applicable
- [ ] `trope-particularity-workbench_chora.deed` — project state
unchanged (documentation repo)
- [x] Documentation updated for user-facing changes
- [ ] `docs/architecture/TOPOLOGY.adoc` — n/a
- [ ] `CHANGELOG` — not touched
- [ ] New dependencies — none
- [ ] ABI/FFI changes — none
## Testing
Run in the session on workbench `ae42fdf`, 2026-10-27:
```
bash tests/check-vocabulary.sh
vocabulary-check: nine effects consistent across vocabulary/ (9), trainer, map, README
grep -n "four-prover\|gated by O4\|Caveat" docs/status/RESEARCH-PROGRAMME.adoc -> no hits
```
The dates in the STATE-OF-THE-STACK table are the dates the cited
commands were run in the same session (recorded in the sibling repos'
AFFIRMATION entries). The vocarium row says NOT RUN and points at CI.
## Owner-only items
- Unstick the GitHub Pages (trainer) run queued since 2026-10-06 and the
cancelled Secret scan (repository settings).
- Accept ADR 0005 upstream (trope-checker #102), on which the WP-2
"delivered" line depends.

## Summary
Phase 0 of the trope-stack plan ("make the truth legible"): reconcile
this repo's status surfaces with what actually runs, from commands run
in the session that wrote them. Tasks H1–H3 of the Phase 0 brief. One
commit per task. Documentation only; no code or semantics changed.

Deferred: [#77 A2ML

## Changes
- **H1** `AFFIRMATION.adoc` — the estate template is filled from a real
run: `cargo test --workspace` (39 tests: gate 4, store 7, ir 11, core 8,
syntax 9) and the e2e invoke slice (7 tests). Anchor: commit `21b1593`,
2026-10-27T07:50Z, rustc 1.97.0, checker binary built from trope-checker
`44020f9`. "What we do NOT claim": the six unimplemented vokes, `show
loss` / `show warrant`, nothing Integrated (stub store), no proofs of
our own.
- **H2** `docs/THEORY.adoc` — "six-coordinate grade" (5 occurrences) →
"three coordinate kinds — fate (per field), bond, merge — over six
slots", matching `trope-checker/spec/calculus.adoc §3`; the open
question becomes "whether the three coordinate kinds are complete"
(calculus O1-coord).
- **H3** `README.adoc` — under the voke-family table: "Implemented
end-to-end and tested: `invoke`. The other six parse and are refused as
unimplemented — status table in `docs/SPEC.adoc`."; new `## Where this
repo sits` with the five-repo map paragraph. No other README claim
changed.

## Testing
Run in the session, on hermeneia `21b1593` (Ubuntu 24.04 container,
rustc 1.97.0):
```
cargo test --workspace -> 39 passed, 0 failed
HERMENEIA_TROPECHECK=<tropecheck-rs> cargo test -p hermeneia-cli --features e2e --test slice
## Changes
- **A1** `README.adoc` — the five-repo map paragraph, verbatim, appended
- **A2** `AFFIRMATION.adoc` — a `== As of 2026-10-27` entry from
`TROPECHECK_BIN=<tropecheck-rs> bash tests/check-examples.sh`: 3
examples well-formed, the vendored `design/trope-ir.schema.json` matches
the canonical checker schema, 3 round-trips to the stated verdicts
(`faithful-record` sufficient, `survey-collapse` insufficient at
`e_collapse/fate.quality`, `station-average` sufficient). The honest
scope is kept: no compiler, no LSP, no runtime, O2 stated not
discharged, no proofs. `:revdate:` bumped.
AFFIRMATION.adoc— the estate template is filled.
