Vercel Web Analytics Installation Report

Summary

Successfully installed and configured Vercel Web Analytics for the Course Planner project (React + Vite).

Changes Made

1. Package Installation

  • Package: @vercel/analytics@^2.0.1
  • Method: Installed using npm and added to package.json dependencies
  • Lock File: package-lock.json updated accordingly

2. Code Modifications

  • File Modified: src/App.jsx
  • Changes:
    1. Added import statement: import { Analytics } from '@vercel/analytics/react';
    2. Added <Analytics /> component at the end of the main component tree, just before the closing </div> tag
    3. Added descriptive comment to maintain code documentation standards

3. Implementation Details

Following the official Vercel Web Analytics documentation (fetched from https://vercel.com/docs/analytics/quickstart), I used the React/Vite-specific installation instructions:

  • The <Analytics /> component from @vercel/analytics/react was added to the main App component
  • Placement: Added near the end of the component tree to ensure it tracks all page views
  • The component is self-contained and requires no additional configuration

4. Build Verification

  • Successfully ran npm run build to verify the changes
  • Build completed without errors: ✓ built in 3.16s
  • Generated bundle sizes:
    • index.html: 0.97 kB (gzip: 0.51 kB)
    • CSS: 18.52 kB (gzip: 4.74 kB)
    • JS: 216.88 kB (gzip: 69.63 kB)

5. Testing Status

  • No linting configuration detected in package.json
  • No test scripts available in package.json
  • Manual verification: Build successful, no runtime errors expected

Files Staged for Commit

  1. src/App.jsx - Added Analytics component and import
  2. package.json - Added @vercel/analytics dependency
  3. package-lock.json - Updated lock file with new dependency tree

Next Steps for User

To enable analytics tracking in production:

  1. Deploy this code to Vercel
  2. Navigate to the Analytics section in the Vercel dashboard
  3. Click the "Enable" button to activate Web Analytics
  4. After deployment, verify the integration by checking browser Network tab for requests to /_vercel/insights/*

Framework Details

  • Project: UIU Course Planner & Routine Maker
  • Framework: React 18.3.1 + Vite 5.4.10
  • Package Manager: npm (evidenced by package-lock.json)
  • Implementation Pattern: Followed React/Vite specific instructions from official Vercel docs

Notes

  • The Analytics component is lightweight and will only send data when deployed on Vercel
  • In local development, it operates in development mode and doesn't send production data
  • No breaking changes introduced; existing functionality preserved
  • Code follows the project's existing comment and structure patterns
