Rationale:

  • crt.sh is a great resource, but it seems to have server issues quite often.
  • Censys is very powerful, but also quite complicated for this use case. They also have limitations for anonymous users.
  • CertObserver CT search is fast, free, and doesn't require sign-up. It also groups related certificates, making the results easier to scan.

We have no operational experience using this service, and it appears that its history does not (yet) go back very far, so I'm reticent to recommend it in this doc. I've merged #2242 but I'm going to hold off on this one for a while until we've seen CertObserver's CT search get put through its paces.
