Importing erases previous notes without a warning or making a backup

Wanted to import some additional notes to existing notes and thought I could use the Import command. It wiped all my previous notes, replacing them with the imported ones. I think the program should give a warning message and/or make a backup.

I agree, if the user assumes that "Import" implies "merge with existing notes" then this function will likely result in data loss as you experienced. A rude surprise!
I agree that a warning message would probably be helpful for most users. Something like "Import will overwrite existing notes with the imported ones. Proceed anyway?". (Probably needs better wording).
