Modes

The mode decides where app and update information comes from, which cards appear, and which log folders the "Gather Logs" action collects.

Fleet	Fleet device API	Self-service software, compliance checks, pending updates. See Fleet mode.
SystemProfiler	The Mac itself	Device, storage and battery information only. The fallback.

Detection

Detection runs only when Mode is unset or empty. Setting Mode skips all of this.

The MDM is identified first, from the enrollment URL:

• a host matching manage.microsoft.* → Intune
• a host containing jamf → Jamf
• a host equal to the Fleet server's → Fleet

Then, in order, the first match wins:

1. Fleet's agent (orbit) is installed and the MDM is Fleet → Fleet
2. Company Portal and Managed Software Center are both present → Munki
3. Company Portal is present and the MDM is Intune → Intune
4. Self Service+ and Managed Software Center are both present → Munki
5. Self Service+ is present and the MDM is Jamf → Jamf
6. Managed Software Center is present → Munki
7. Fleet's agent is installed → Fleet
8. Otherwise → SystemProfiler

Munki wins wherever both Munki and an MDM's self-service app are installed, on the grounds that the Mac that has both is usually patched by Munki.

Changed in 3.0.0. Rule 7 is new. A Mac with orbit installed and no other match used to land in System Profiler mode. Set Mode explicitly to keep that.

The paths checked are /Applications/Company Portal.app, /Applications/Managed Software Center.app and /Applications/Self Service+.app.

Log folders

Detection also sets LogFolders, which is what "Gather Logs" collects:

Munki	/Library/Managed Installs/Logs, plus /Library/Logs/Microsoft or /var/log/jamf.log depending on what else is installed

Intune	/Library/Logs/Microsoft

Override with LogFolders, or subtract from it with ExcludedLogFolders.
