Section 2 requires 4.5:1 contrast for text in both modes. Green 600 (#3FB86D), prescribed for success text and green text on light surfaces in sections 7.4, 7.7, and 9 and in the checklist, measures 2.53:1 on white — well under that, and under 3:1 even as a non-text mark. Green 700 (#2D8F52), the light-mode Theme Primary, measures 4.07:1 as text.
Cuts v1.6 per the process in standards/README.md: new version file, repointed latest symlink, updated the index page and version table.
Within the new version:
Section 7.4: Green 800 documented for green text on light surfaces (8.17:1); Green 700 documented for fills and non-text marks only (3:1); Green 600 documented as not used for text or icons on light surfaces.
Section 7.7: Success now Green 800, not Green 600.
Section 9: the accent-on-white rule now names Green 800 for light-surface green text, and is explicit that Green 700 is for non-text use only.
Checklist: the Success line now asks for Green 800 text.
A stale "(v1.5)" in the Agent Implementation Checklist heading, left over from copying the previous version forward, is bumped to (v1.6).
Section 8.2's primary/onPrimary mapping is intentionally unchanged. Whether primary itself moves to Green 800 is the open question on #173 — it changes the color of every light-mode button, so it isn't mine to decide in a contrast-fix PR. Added a note pointing at the issue instead of guessing.
Testing
Not applicable, documentation only. Diffed v1.5 against v1.6 to confirm the only changes are the ones described above. Checked the standards-version-guard workflow logic against this diff by hand: the symlink, README marker, and version table all move together in one commit, and v1.5 itself is untouched.
Summary by CodeRabbit
Documentation
Updated the design standards reference to identify v1.6 as current and v1.5 as superseded.
Added v1.6 guidance for client visuals and behavior, including themes, layouts, accessibility, iconography, color use, and measurement-unit presentation.
Green 600 (#3FB86D) was prescribed for success text and green text on
light surfaces in sections 7.4, 7.7, and 9, and in the checklist. It
measures 2.53:1 on white, below the 4.5:1 the document requires in
section 2, and below 3:1 even as a non-text mark. Green 700 (#2D8F52),
used for the light-mode Theme Primary, measures 4.07:1 as text.
Green text and the Success semantic color on light surfaces now use
Green 800 (#005C2E), which clears 4.5:1. Green 700 stays documented
for fills and non-text marks, where 3:1 applies, not for text.
Section 8.2's primary/onPrimary mapping is unchanged: whether primary
itself moves to Green 800 is still open, since that changes the color
of every light-mode button. A note points at design#173 rather than
deciding it here.
Fixes#173
Co-Authored-By: Claude Sonnet 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
The design standards now identify v1.6 as current. This version adds client UI and color guidance, device-unit and locale rules, and documentation requirements.
Changes: Client design standards
Layer / File(s)
Summary
Client UI and color guidance standards/meshtastic_design_standards_v1_6.md
Defines client UI patterns, color scales, Material 3 mappings, and color-use constraints.
Units and locale presentation standards/meshtastic_design_standards_v1_6.md
Specifies canonical metric units for device data and OS-based conversion and locale formatting for presentation.
Documentation and in-product text standards/meshtastic_design_standards_v1_6.md
Adds documentation rules for ownership, writing, structure, accessibility, translation, versioning, and in-product wording, plus checklists.
This documentation update sets v1.6 as the current standard, but its unit guidance could lead Android and Web clients to show metric numbers with imperial labels. Fix that guidance, and ideally the smaller label and wording errors, before merging.

Remove bold labels at the start of bullets.
Lines 12-14 use * **Messaging View:** and **Others:** as bullet labels. The same pattern appears in Sections 2, 4, and 9. Rewrite these as sentence bullets and apply the same change to the repeated lists.
As per coding guidelines, Markdown bullets must not lead with a bold label.

Do not hide a valid zero battery reading.
Line 34 treats 0% battery as unavailable data. A zero reading is valid and can be the most important battery state to show. Suppress only absent, unknown, or invalid values.

Use platform-native logical units for text and hit targets.
Lines 46-47 use px for Android and Apple requirements. Apple specifies points for hit regions, while Android recommends scalable sp text and 48dp touch targets. Define platform-native units or state the equivalent logical-pixel mapping. Otherwise, an Android client can miss the touch-target requirement and fixed text units can ignore font scaling. Correct the Green 950 and Blue 900 role labels in the palette table.
Both labels name a Material 3 role that the Section 8 mappings do not assign to that color. Green 950 is the light-scheme onPrimaryContainer, not the dark-scheme one. Blue 900 is not used in any role mapping.

Meshtastic devices transmit all telemetry and position data in **metric SI units**. The client must never expose raw metric values to users who expect imperial or other regional units. Instead, the client must delegate unit conversion and formatting to the **operating system's locale and measurement system APIs**, which handle this automatically based on the user's device settings.

Use “canonical device units,” not “metric SI units.”
Lines 313 and 319 claim that all data uses metric SI units. The table lists km/h, hPa, degrees, µR/hr, and scaled coordinates. These are canonical schema units, but they are not all SI units. Use the schema-defined unit for each field. This avoids treating groundSpeed as m/s or converting a field twice.

Every major platform provides measurement formatting APIs that automatically convert and format values based on the user's locale and measurement system preference. Clients **must** use these APIs rather than implementing manual conversion logic.

Major · Data Integrity & Integration · Quick win
Add an explicit conversion step for Android and Web.
MeasureFormat formats the unit it receives and does not convert it. LocaleData.getMeasurementSystem() reports the measurement system; it is not a conversion API. Intl.NumberFormat formats the unit named in unit; it does not convert the numeric value. MeasureFormat.FormatWidth.SHORT changes display width, not unit selection or natural scaling. The current guidance can produce incorrect imperial values when a metric number is formatted with an imperial label. Require conversion before formatting, then use these APIs for localized output.
