Summary

Make the Wayfinder fetch accept what the Mac accepts, and keep the data the Mac shows:

  • /v1/savings no longer requires period_days, unit, or per-route realized / baseline. Upstream requires none of them. Before, a gateway that omitted them (the Mac parity pack's payload) failed the whole card with "Parse error: Invalid Wayfinder gateway response". Defaults: period_days 30 (the query asks for period=30d), unit "usd", route amounts 0. The fields stay non-Option, so the bridge shape is unchanged.
  • /metrics was fetched and dropped. It is now parsed into avg_decision_ms: Option<f64> (avgDecisionMs on the bridge, added to bridge.ts), using upstream's rule: last wayfinder_router_decision_latency_seconds_{sum,count} sample, sum / count * 1000, none when the count is 0. It is omitted from the payload when absent.
  • Routes are ordered by requests (descending), then name, as upstream; before they were in name order.

The card itself does not change yet: rendering the Mac's USAGE rows (Routed, Saved, Avg decision) is in MenuCardDetails.tsx, which waits for card PR 3.

Root cause

  • SavingsResponse / RouteResponse were stricter than upstream WayfinderSavingsResponse / RouteBucket.
  • fetch_metrics discarded the body.

Mac reference

  • Sources/CodexBarCore/Providers/Wayfinder/WayfinderUsageFetcher.swift: savings decoding, averageDecisionMilliseconds(fromPrometheusText:) (line 450), route sort (line 347).
  • Upstream takes the last space-separated token as the value, so a Prometheus sample with a trailing timestamp would be misread. That is replicated on purpose for parity; the gateway does not emit timestamps.

Not changed (after card PR 3)

  • Card body: the Mac USAGE section (Gateway "ok · 3 models", Routed "cheap: 900 · premium: 300", Saved "$5.60 · 57.1% vs highest-cost route", Avg decision "0.3 ms") vs the Windows grid.
  • Plan slot "Local gateway" and the <gateway>/router Usage Dashboard row.

Tests

  • New: mac_pack_savings_without_optional_fields_parses (new fixture fixtures/wayfinder/mac-pack-savings.json, the Mac pack payload; also checks that a missing upstream-required field still fails), average_decision_latency_follows_upstream_prometheus_parse (pack value 0.35 ms, labelled series, CRLF, last sample wins, prefix-collision, zero count), routes_sort_by_requests_then_name (also checks avgDecisionMs is omitted when absent).
  • Updated: the bridge key-set test includes avgDecisionMs.

Commands

  • cargo fmt --all: ok
  • cargo test --manifest-path rust/Cargo.toml: pass (3805 passed, 0 failed, 1 ignored)
  • cargo clippy --manifest-path rust/Cargo.toml --all-targets -- -D warnings: pass
  • cargo test --manifest-path apps/desktop-tauri/src-tauri/Cargo.toml: pass (637 passed)
  • cargo clippy --manifest-path apps/desktop-tauri/src-tauri/Cargo.toml --all-targets -- -D warnings: pass
  • pnpm test (apps/desktop-tauri): pass (107 files, 831 tests)
  • pnpm run build: pass

Proof

Rig pack (Windows routes, which carry the extra fields): the card is unchanged, as expected.

  • Before: W:/mac-parity/win-runs/Wayfinder@followups-main/panel.png (main 44d5de3)
  • After: W:/mac-parity/win-runs/Wayfinder@parity-wayfinder/panel.png (this branch e12c3b4, built with build-proof.sh)

Same pack served with the Mac routes.json (no period_days / unit / route amounts):

  • Before: W:/mac-parity/win-runs/Wayfinder@macroutes-main/panel.png: "Parse error: Invalid Wayfinder gateway response".
  • After: W:/mac-parity/win-runs/Wayfinder@macroutes-parity-wayfinder/panel.png: the full card (Gateway ok, 3 models, 1K requests, 350K tokens, saved 57.1%).

Found by the Mac-parity rig (pack Wayfinder).

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features

    • Wayfinder usage details now include average router decision latency in milliseconds when available.
    • Route breakdowns are ordered by request volume, with ties listed alphabetically.
  • Bug Fixes

    • Usage reporting can continue when latency metrics are unavailable or cannot be read.
    • Savings details handle omitted optional values more consistently, while still requiring key totals and route information.

📝 Walkthrough

Walkthrough

Wayfinder usage snapshots now include optional average decision latency from gateway metrics. Savings parsing defaults selected omitted fields. Route summaries sort by request count and then name. Metrics fetch failures do not prevent snapshot creation.

Changes

Wayfinder usage reporting

Layer / File(s) Summary
Snapshot contract and input parsing
apps/desktop-tauri/src/types/bridge.ts, rust/src/core/usage_snapshot.rs, rust/src/providers/wayfinder.rs, rust/src/providers/fixtures/wayfinder/mac-pack-savings.json
The Rust and TypeScript snapshot types add optional decision latency. Wayfinder parsing defaults omitted period, unit, realized, and baseline values. The latency parser calculates milliseconds from Prometheus sum and count samples. The fixture contains aggregate and route-level savings values.
Metrics and snapshot integration
rust/src/providers/wayfinder.rs
Metrics fetching returns response text for successful responses and no value on request, status, or body-read failures. Snapshot construction uses available metrics and sorts routes by request count, then name. Tests cover serialization, parsing, route ordering, and absent latency.

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Read the sample value before an optional timestamp.

If /metrics includes Prometheus timestamps, this code reads each timestamp instead of its sample value. For a sum of 0.42 and count of 1200 with the same timestamp, it reports 1000 ms instead of 0.35 ms. Parse the value token after the metric name or labels, and add a timestamped sample to the test. Prometheus permits a timestamp after the value. (prometheus.io)

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🔵 Trivial | 💤 Low value

Handle NaN and negative sums, and reject a count of NaN before computing the average.

If sum is negative or the metric values are unusual, the function can return a negative or meaningless latency. count > 0.0 rejects NaN, so a NaN count is already excluded. A negative sum still passes through and yields a negative avgDecisionMs. Prometheus histogram sums of durations are not negative, so this is a narrow edge case. Add a sum >= 0.0 check if you want to guard against it.

Proposed fix
-    (count > 0.0 && average.is_finite()).then_some(average)
+    (count > 0.0 && sum >= 0.0 && average.is_finite()).then_some(average)
