Summary

Captures the hardest durable-execution failure mode as a core design discussion:

External side effect succeeds, Oasis crashes before the result is persisted.

Added

  • ADR 0005 — Proposed (not implemented)
    • Problem framing + crash timeline
    • Options: blind at-least-once / at-most-once / prepare→execute→confirm / outbox / sagas
    • Proposed direction: effect_executing checkpoint + tool delivery classes (Pure / Idempotent / AtMostOnce / Compensatable) + first-class uncertainty
    • Resume algorithm sketch + implementation acceptance gate
  • Short shareable note: docs/design/crash-before-persist.md
  • Links from Architecture, Lifecycle (Phase 2 gate), README, good-first-issues
  • GitHub “Design discussion” issue template + contact link to ADR 0005

Honest: Phase 0–1 still only guarantee local journal durability. This ADR is the standing discussion before mutating real-world tools ship.

Capture the external-success / local-crash failure mode as a Proposed
core ADR: checkpointing, idempotency classes, uncertain state, resume
algorithm, and implementation gates. Link from architecture, lifecycle,
README, and issue templates.

Import ordering / line wrapping so `cargo fmt --check` passes.

Clarify ADR 0005 / issue #7 as advanced help-wanted work, not
newcomer onboarding. Prefer enhancement + help wanted + documentation.
