Some variable naming conventions in the ss3_var_names.csv seem inconsistent, or could otherwise probably be updated for clarity. The below is non exhaustive, and/or there may be good reasons why the current names were chosen:
SS3 Report Label
Current alt_label
Proposed alt_label
Justification
BRatio
biomass_ratio
spawning_biomass_ratio
From checking against the SS3 manual, this quantity always reflects spawning biomass.
annF_Btgt
annual_F_biomass_target
annual_fishing_mortality_biomass_target
Would be nice for this quantity to be returned alongside other "fishing_mortality" labels, particularly for reference lines. Also, the current alt_label doesn't match naming conventions elsewhere.
annF_SPR
annual_F_spawning_potential_ratio
annual_fishing_mortality_spawning_potential_ratio
Same as above
annF_MSY
f_msy
annual_fishing_mortality_msy
Same as above
All of these were encountered when working on a draft Kobe plot figure.
Sorry I am late to the party here but I don't see why we need to preface things with "annual" if it has an entry in the date/timing/year or whatever that column is called then people will know it pertains to a given year.

@kellijohnson-NOAA you make a good point. We definitely don't need that in the labels.
