Summary

  • Give the web QGIS Project action its own file-picker purpose instead of the generic RustGIS-item purpose.
  • Filter that picker for .qgs and .qgz, matching the existing desktop picker, without changing import dispatch or the other item pickers.
  • Document the QGIS picker’s supported extensions.

Testing

  • Passed env CARGO_PROFILE_DEV_DEBUG=0 CARGO_PROFILE_TEST_DEBUG=0 CARGO_INCREMENTAL=0 cargo xtask ci (formatting, workspace Clippy with warnings denied, workspace tests, and layering).
  • Passed trunk build with Homebrew LLVM on PATH after updating the branch to current main.
  • Imported a minimal .qgs project and its .qgz archive through rustgis-cli; both produced the expected QGIS Filter Smoke map with no import notes.
  • Browser interaction was attempted, but the local browser became unresponsive; the native picker’s visual appearance was not verified.

The original full-gate attempts ran out of local disk space. The successful run disabled debug symbols and incremental artifacts after clearing generated native build output. Updating to current main also brought in the existing renderer-test fix from #1016.

Related issue

Closes #1013.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • The QGIS Project file picker now filters for .qgs and .qgz files on desktop and web. Its filter label is localized, and QGIS project selections are recognized.
  • Documentation
    • Updated the workspace guide to describe the file filter and its availability on desktop and web. It also clarifies that desktop imports resolve relative layer paths from the project folder, while browser imports cannot resolve relative file sources and list them in the import notes.

Explanation

The description includes the required Summary, Testing, and Related issue sections. It explains the change, reports verification steps and limitations, and links issue #1013. UI evidence is reasonably omitted because this is a small picker-filter change.

Full details: Linked Issues check

Explanation

Issue #1013 requires the web Open Project → QGIS Project picker to show QGIS project files. The PR passes qgisProject from apps/rustgis-web/src/web.rs, maps that purpose in crates/ui-egui/src/lib.rs, and filters the picker for .qgs and .qgz. The reported CI, web build, and import checks support the implementation.

Full details: Out of Scope Changes check

Explanation

The changes remain within the QGIS picker objective. The web purpose mapping and extension filter implement #1013. The workspace documentation records the supported extensions and the browser limitation for relative QGIS layer paths. No unrelated picker or import-dispatch change is identified in the supplied evidence.

Nit (test coverage): the new "qgisProject" → open_async purpose mapping has no test. crates/ui-egui/tests/smoke.rs already records the purposes passed to open_async (see delimited_text_options_go_with_the_picked_file, around line 1270), so a short test could run ui.openItem with {"kind": "qgisProject"} and assert the logged purpose is "qgisProject". That would guard against the web picker regressing to the generic "item" filter, which omits .qgs/.qgz.

Code review

Bugs: None found. The change routes the web "QGIS Project…" action to its own "qgisProject" purpose, and apps/rustgis-web/src/web.rs adds a matching .qgs/.qgz filter. Non-web flows are unchanged, and the ramps mapping is behaviour-preserving. Picked files still go through the pending command (project.importQgis), so import dispatch is untouched. No purpose-string collision: "qgisProject" doesn't match the toolfile: prefix. Confidence: high.

Security: None found. No new input handling beyond a static filter list. Confidence: high.

Performance: None found. Confidence: high.

Quality:

  • Test gap (posted inline on crates/ui-egui/src/lib.rs:2660): the new mapping has no test, though crates/ui-egui/tests/smoke.rs already records open_async purposes. Confidence: medium.
  • The docs sentence in docs/user-guide/workspace.md is accurate: the desktop picker already filtered qgs/qgz via pick_open. Confidence: high.

AGENTS.md:

  • The filter label "QGIS project" in web.rs is a raw literal. AGENTS.md asks for user-visible text to be wrapped in tl!. The sibling filter labels in that file are also raw, so this follows existing practice rather than introducing a new gap. I didn't propose a tl! suggestion because I couldn't confirm the macro is in scope in web.rs. Confidence: medium.
  • No ribbon, asset, dependency or wasm-breaking changes. The rfd call builds for wasm like its neighbours. Confidence: high.

Doc accuracy (confidence: medium). This PR makes the web picker a real entry point for QGIS projects, but the "relative paths from the project's folder" wording only holds on desktop. The web picker sends the file as data with no path or dir, and import_project in crates/engine/src/cmd/qgis.rs then has no folder to resolve against, so relative layer paths come back as notes. Suggest saying so, e.g. "...relative paths from the project's folder on the desktop; in the browser they can't be found and are listed as notes".

Test coverage (confidence: high that it's missing, low severity). The new "qgisProject" arm is not exercised by any test. crates/ui-egui/tests/smoke.rs already has a pattern for this (it records the purposes passed to open_async). A test there would pin the routing: ui.openItem with {"kind": "qgisProject"} should record ["qgisProject"] and set ui.pending_open to Some("project.importQgis"). Without it, a future rename of either string would only show up in the browser.

Code review

PR #1030 gives the web QGIS Project action its own file-picker purpose (qgisProject), filtered to .qgs/.qgz. I traced the web path end to end and found no correctness bugs. Two inline comments were posted, both low severity.

Bugs

  • None found. Checked: the open_async purpose reaches pending_open = project.importQgis, which receives {"data": base64}. qgis_text accepts data for both .qgs and .qgz (zip detected by PK). The tl! macro is #[macro_export]ed, so rustgis_ui_egui::tl! resolves, and t returns &str, which add_filter accepts. mark and many are unaffected by the new purpose.

Security

  • None found. The change adds a file-type filter and a string match; no new input parsing or privilege.

Performance

  • None found.

Quality

  • Doc accuracy (medium confidence): docs/user-guide/workspace.md:80 says layers resolve from "relative paths from the project's folder". On web, the picked file arrives as data with no dir, so relative paths cannot resolve. The new sentence applies to desktop only. Inline comment posted.
  • Test coverage (high confidence it's missing, low severity): the new "qgisProject" arm in crates/ui-egui/src/lib.rs:2658 has no test. crates/ui-egui/tests/smoke.rs already records open_async purposes, so a test could pin ui.openItem {"kind":"qgisProject"} → purpose qgisProject and pending_open = project.importQgis. Inline comment posted.
  • Stale doc (pre-existing, nit): the Services::open_async doc at crates/ui-egui/src/lib.rs:225 lists only "data", "project", "shapefile". It is already incomplete, and the PR could add "qgisProject" while there.
  • Import style (nit): apps/rustgis-web/src/web.rs:877 uses the fully qualified rustgis_ui_egui::tl!. The file imports from rustgis_ui_egui on line 8, and parts.rs imports tl directly. Either style works.

AGENTS.md

  • Compliant. The new user-visible literal is wrapped in tl!. There are no unwrap/expect/panic additions, no unsafe, and no new dependencies. The change is in apps/rustgis-web and crates/ui-egui, both of which build for wasm, and it touches no assets. The ribbon is unchanged.
  • The PR's testing notes say the browser picker's visual result was not verified. Given the change is small and the native picker was not visually checked, a brief screenshot is optional.

I did not run the test suite; this review is by reading the code only.

Nit / test gap (confidence: medium). The kind-to-purpose mapping is now split between this match and the purpose == "qgisProject" branch in apps/rustgis-web/src/web.rs, joined only by a string. A typo in either side silently falls back to the generic "Vector and raster data" filter, and nothing tests this routing: no test in the repo touches open_async or ui.openItem. A small ui.openItem test with a stubbed open_async asserting the purpose string for qgisProject would pin it down.

Code review

Bugs: None found. The web picker now uses the qgisProject purpose with .qgs/.qgz filters. The web path sends the picked file as data (base64) to project.importQgis, which accepts data and unpacks .qgz zips. Relative layer paths with no dir are reported as skipped notes, which matches the new doc paragraph. The tl! call in web.rs resolves to &str, which add_filter accepts.

Security: None found. The change adds a file filter and a routing branch; no new input is parsed.

Performance: None found.

Quality:

  • Low confidence (medium): the kind-to-purpose mapping is split between the match in crates/ui-egui/src/lib.rs (~2658) and the string branch in apps/rustgis-web/src/web.rs (~876). A typo on either side silently falls back to the generic "Vector and raster data" filter. Inline comment posted.

Test coverage:

  • Medium confidence: no test covers the ui.openItem → open_async routing. The PR's smoke test used the CLI path route, not the browser data route. A stubbed-open_async test would close the gap.

AGENTS.md: Compliant. The new user-visible label is wrapped in tl!, and "QGIS project" already has catalog entries. No unwrap/panic added. The change is in apps/ and doesn't touch the wasm-unsafe layers.
