Summary

Polygon editing from the roadmap (Data at the source › "cut a polygon, reshape and trace", open): three ways to edit features with a line drawn on the map. Every one is a command, so the CLI, Python and the AI Assistant can use them too.

Command What it does
edit.cutPolygon {"line"} Cuts the selected polygons along a drawn line. Each piece keeps the original's attributes, the original row keeps the largest piece (with any parts of a multipart polygon the line missed), and the pieces end up selected. Returns cut, pieces and missed (selected features the line didn't cut).
edit.reshape {"line"} Reshapes the one selected polygon or line. For a polygon, the boundary between the line's first and last crossings of one ring is replaced, keeping the larger of the two possible shapes. A result whose boundary would cross itself is refused. For a line, the stretch between two crossings is replaced, or the shorter end when the line crosses once.
edit.trace {"from","to","layer"?,"row"?} The path along a line or polygon edge between two points, the shorter way round a ring. With no row given, it uses the nearest edge passing within the snapping tolerance of both points. Returns how far each point was from that edge (fromOffM, toOffM).

How it fits together:

crates/analysis/src/sketch_edit.rs # the geometry (Web Mercator metres, like the other edit tools)
cut_polygon node the rings and the line → walk the faces → keep the inside ones; untouched holes go to the piece around them
reshape first/last crossing of one ring (or line part) → splice in the drawn stretch
trace nearest ring/part to both points → walk between them
crates/engine/src/cmd/design/sketch.rs # the three commands, through `apply` (design rules, one undo step)
crates/engine/src/lib.rs # map tools `cutPolygon`, `reshape`
crates/ui-egui # sketching, the Trace toggle (`ui.traceEdges`), ribbon and Editing pane
  • Vertices an edit doesn't touch keep their exact coordinates. Points closer than 1 mm count as one point, and a drawn line's ends within 1 cm of an edge count as on it. That way a point snapped onto an edge while the map is in another projection still meets the edge.
  • Cuts are all worked out before anything changes, and refusals are errors. A cut that would leave an invalid shape (for example, a line that only touches a hole at a corner) is refused rather than written.
  • Large inputs are bounded: the drawn line is limited to 10,000 points and each edit to 50 million segment comparisons.
  • No new dependency. geo (already in rustgis-analysis) only checks results are valid. There are no data-model or project-format changes and no existing command changes, only new command and tool ids.
  • edit.split (which splits lines at a clicked point) is unchanged.

Ribbon (Edit tab, see the screenshots at 1366 px):

  • Cut Polygon and Reshape go in the Tools group's Editor Tools menu, next to Split. Each selects a map tool: draw the line, then double-click. Both are also toggle buttons in the Editing pane's Modify section.
  • Trace goes in the Features group, under Shared Vertices. It's a drawing mode used while creating, cutting or reshaping, so it sits with Create (the guidelines' "keep modes with their tools"). It toggles ui.traceEdges and is also in the Editing pane. Nothing is moved or removed.

Testing

  • cargo xtask ci: 3,388 tests passed, 0 failed; fmt, clippy and layers clean (on the current head)
  • cargo build --locked --target wasm32-unknown-unknown -p rustgis-web: builds
  • pre-commit run --all-files: passed
  • New tests:
    • rustgis-analysis sketch_edit unit tests: a straight cut, a line that stops inside or misses, line ends a few millimetres short of the edge, a zigzag into three pieces with a hole kept in its piece, a cut through a hole, an untouched part staying with the largest piece, reshaping a square outwards and inwards, reshaping a line's middle and its end, and tracing round a ring and along a line.
    • crates/engine/tests/cut_reshape_trace.rs: attributes copied, one undo step, untouched rows unchanged, bad or missing lines refused with the layer unchanged, a refused cut of one of two selected parcels cutting neither, the missed count, Reshape needing exactly one feature and refusing a self-crossing result, and Trace with a row, without one, and with a point off the edge.
    • ui-egui mapview test: Trace following an edge, and finishing a Reshape and a Cut Polygon sketch (the double-click path).
  • hostile_params_never_panic covers the three new commands automatically.

UI evidence

Parcels near Memphis, at 1366 px wide. The Edit tab changed, so it's shown before and after; the map tools are new.

Edit tab, before (on main):
Before: Edit tab with the Editor Tools menu open: Merge, Explode, Flip Line, Rotate, Scale, Split, Edit Vertices; no Trace in the Features group

After: Editor Tools gains Cut Polygon and Reshape, and the Features group gains Trace:
Edit tab: Editor Tools menu with Cut Polygon and Reshape; Trace in the Features group

Cut Polygon: the line drawn, then the parcel cut in two (both pieces selected):
Cut Polygon: a line drawn across the selected parcel
The parcel cut in two, both pieces selected

Reshape: the line drawn across the east parcel's edge, then the boundary moved out:
Reshape: a line drawn across the east parcel's edge
The east parcel's boundary moved out along the line

Trace on while drawing a polygon: a click on the parcel's west edge, then one on its bottom edge, follows the edge round the corner:
Trace: the polygon sketch follows the parcel's edge round the corner

(The "after" shots ran the command with the drawn coordinates. The headless harness's synthetic double-click doesn't reach the map for any sketch tool, Measure included, so the double-click path is covered by the mapview test instead.)

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Added Cut Polygon and Reshape tools for editing selected map features. Cutting keeps the largest resulting piece in the original feature and selects the resulting pieces; reshaping updates a feature’s boundary or line and reports removed holes.
    • Added Trace to follow feature edges between clicked points while drawing, with an option to toggle tracing.
    • Added commands for cutting polygons, reshaping features, and tracing paths.
  • Documentation
    • Updated the editing guide with tool instructions, selection behavior, geometry outcomes, and cases where edits cannot be applied.

Polygon editing from the roadmap (Data at the source): three ways to edit
features with a line drawn on the map, each a command.

- edit.cutPolygon cuts the selected polygons along a line; pieces keep the
original's attributes, the original row keeps the largest piece, untouched
holes stay in their piece, and the result counts what the line missed.
- edit.reshape replaces the stretch of the one selected polygon's ring (or
line) between the line's crossings, keeping the larger shape and refusing
  a self-crossing boundary.
- edit.trace returns the path along a feature's edge between two points, and
the Trace toggle (ui.traceEdges) makes sketch clicks on an edge follow it.

The geometry lives in rustgis-analysis (sketch_edit), computed in Web
Mercator metres; untouched vertices keep their exact coordinates. New map
tools cutPolygon and reshape; Editor Tools menu, Features group and the
Editing pane; docs in the editing guide; the roadmap item moves to Done.

The change is mergeable with awareness that tracing very detailed edges can make drawing slower. Adding the stored-open-ring reshape test would improve regression coverage.

Bug (medium confidence): a valid reshape can be refused. The code picks the larger candidate ring and then validates only that one. Example: a square 0–10 with a hole at x 1–2, and a line drawn straight across x = 3. Candidate 2 (the right-hand side, area 70) is larger, but it drops the hole from the shell, so valid(&part) fails and the reshape is refused. Candidate 1 (the left-hand side, area 30, which keeps the hole) is valid. Fix: order the candidates by size, take the first one that passes valid (and has at least 4 points), and refuse only when neither does.

Confidence in the mechanics: high (read from the code). Confidence that this is the intended behaviour: medium, since the docs say "keeping whichever of the two possible shapes is larger".

Fixed in a6898f7. Falling back to the smaller shape would quietly break the "keep the larger shape" rule, so the reshape keeps the larger shape and drops any hole the new outer ring leaves wholly outside: that hole lay in the part reshaped away. A hole the new boundary crosses is still refused. New test: reshaping_away_the_side_with_a_hole_drops_the_hole_with_it. Validated with cargo xtask ci (3,378 passed), the wasm build and the hooks.

Performance (high confidence in the mechanics): the work limit does not cover this loop. within_work bounds ring-vertices × line-points, but the loop also compares every pair of drawn-line segments (i runs over earlier line segments too). That is about M²/2 meet calls, which for a 10,000-point line is about 5×10⁷. Nothing bounds it, and cut_part runs once per selected feature and part, so with N selected parcels the total is roughly N × 5×10⁷. The PR body's claim that "each edit" is limited to 50 million comparisons is therefore not true for multi-selection.

Fix: count the line-line pairs in the budget (within_work(line.len(), line.len()) in the total), or compute the line's self-crossings once per drawn line in cut_polygon and pass them to cut_part.

Fixed in a6898f7. One comparison counter now covers the whole cut, across every part and every selected feature, and includes the drawn line against itself. Past 50 million pairs the edit is refused. Ring segments outside the line's box are filtered out once, and line pairs get a box check before meet. Validated with cargo xtask ci (3,378 passed), the wasm build and the hooks.

Never silent (medium-low confidence): Trace fails without telling the user. traced turns every error from edit.trace into None with .ok()?. The caller then adds the click as a straight vertex, so with Trace on, a click that missed the edge gives a chord across the feature, and nothing says the trace didn't happen. A cut or reshape then uses that chord.

Fix: report the failed trace through the app's notice path (one notice per session, with a count), or refuse the click and show the reason. Also note that traced drops path[0] on the assumption that it equals from. That holds only when from lies on the edge (within the snapping tolerance). Otherwise the sketch jumps from from straight to path[1].

The start point is fixed in a6898f7: the trace path now starts where the last vertex meets the edge and replaces that vertex, so the first segment follows the edge (test added). On the silence: a click that doesn't land near the same edge as the previous vertex isn't a failed trace. It's an ordinary vertex, which is how you draw between traced stretches, so a notice there would fire on most clicks. The one real refusal, a trace that would pass the 10,000-point line limit, now says so.

Code review

Bugs

  • A valid polygon reshape can be refused. reshape picks the larger candidate ring and validates only that one. In a square with a hole, a line straight across the square can make the larger candidate drop the hole, so the whole reshape is refused even though the smaller candidate is valid. Medium confidence that this is wrong; the code path is clear. (crates/analysis/src/sketch_edit.rs:604)
  • Trace failures are swallowed in the UI. traced turns every edit.trace error into None, so the click becomes a straight chord with no notice. Also, traced drops path[0] on the assumption that it equals from, which is false when from is off the edge. Medium-low confidence. (crates/ui-egui/src/mapview.rs:2633)

Security

  • None found. Input is bounded and validated (line point count, finite coordinates, tolerancePx clamped), and nothing touches the file system.

Performance

  • The line self-intersection loop in cut_part compares every pair of drawn-line segments. That is roughly M²/2 pairs (about 5×10⁷ for a 10,000-point line), and within_work does not count it. cut_part runs once per selected feature, so the total is unbounded across a multi-selection. This contradicts the PR body's "each edit to 50 million segment comparisons". High confidence in the mechanics. (crates/analysis/src/sketch_edit.rs:278)

Quality

  • Nits, left for the release quality pass: the command label is "Trace Edge Path" but the UI says "Trace"; the Cut Polygon menu item reuses Split's "split" icon key.

AGENTS.md

  • No violations found. The tl!(label) calls with variables match existing repo patterns, the ribbon statement is in the PR body, and the new commands are covered by hostile_params_never_panic. I did not check the i18n catalogs because the guidelines don't require entries in them.

Prior review threads: none on this PR, so no concerns were left out.

Ignored: the apply mutate-then-validate order (existing pattern, covered by the session transaction) and a suspected NaN from lonlat_to_merc at the poles (it clamps latitude).

Follow-up Comments

Minor follow-up Reject traced endpoints that are far from the requested point.

159-169: 🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Reject traced endpoints that are far from the requested point.

edit.trace reports fromOffM and toOffM, but mapview::traced reads only path. When the candidate feature has several rings, nearest_edge accepts it if each endpoint is near some ring. sketch_edit::trace then chooses one ring for both endpoints and returns it without any distance limit. The map appends that path, which can end far from the second click.

Check toOffM (and fromOffM) in traced against a tolerance, and return None when either exceeds it. Use the same pixel tolerance that nearest_edge applies.

4717-4721: 🎯 Functional Correctness | 🔵 Trivial | ⚡ Quick win

Add a sketch-click test that enables Trace.

The Trace insertion branch has no regression coverage. The only Trace test calls traced directly, sets the sketch by hand, and calls finish_sketch. It never sets trace_edges and never sends a click. A change that removes the insertion at mapview.rs:2566-2571 would leave the trace test unchanged.

A focused test can close this gap with the existing harness:

  • Set trace_edges to true on the map view.
  • Activate an edit-drawing tool with tool.set.
  • Send two clicks through selection_click at the same endpoints as the existing trace test: (0.5, 0.0) and (1.0, 0.5).
  • Assert that the sketch holds the traced intermediate vertex (1.0, 0.0) between the two clicked points.
  • Compare vertices with a small tolerance, because screen projection can shift the clicked coordinates slightly.

The selectPolygon tests already send sketch-tool clicks through selection_click, so no new harness is needed. The change is local to one test. This is a coverage gap for working behavior, so it is a recommended refactor, not a defect.

- Cut pieces keep the feature's attributes: no creation defaults
(subtype defaults, elevation) are filled in on them.
- One comparison budget covers a whole cut, across every part and
selected feature, including the drawn line against itself.
- Reshape drops holes left wholly outside the new outer ring (they lay in
the part reshaped away) instead of refusing the edit.
- Trace looks only at drawn rows, needs both points near the same ring or

Replying to the code review summary: its three findings are handled inline (two fixed in a6898f7, plus the trace start; the trace-silence point is answered on its thread). The two quality nits, the command label "Trace Edge Path" next to the "Trace" toggle and Cut Polygon reusing the Split icon, are left for the release quality pass.

Changes since your review of 05f8415 (all in a6898f7):

  • Cut pieces keep the source attributes: apply_with(.., false) skips creation defaults for them; apply itself is unchanged.
  • Trace: drawn rows only; both points must be near the same ring or part; the path starts on the edge and replaces the last vertex; a trace past MAX_LINE adds a plain vertex with a notice; a click-driven test.
  • One comparison budget covers a whole cut (all parts and features, including the line against itself).
  • Reshape drops holes left wholly outside the new outer ring instead of refusing.

Performance (medium confidence): the Reshape work limit is per ring, not per edit. within_work(r.len(), line.len()) on line 597 checks each ring against the 50 million budget on its own, and crossings runs for every ring until one has two or more hits. A selected polygon with 1,000 rings of 1,000 vertices each, and a 10,000-point line that crosses none of them, passes every check (10⁷ per ring) and does about 10¹⁰ segment comparisons in total. That is a UI freeze from one file, and it contradicts the PR's "each edit to 50 million" claim.

Suggested fix: check the whole polygon once, before the ring loop:

Suggested change
Geometry::Polygon(parts) => {
Geometry::Polygon(parts) => {
within_work(parts.iter().flatten().map(Vec::len).sum(), line.len())?;

Confidence in the mechanics is high; the exact cost depends on input, so I've rated it medium.

Never silent (high confidence): edit.trace ignores layer when row is missing. The None arm runs nearest_edge across every visible layer, so {"layer": "Parcels", "from": …, "to": …} returns a path on some other layer's feature, and nothing says the layer was dropped. editing.md documents layer and row as a pair, so a script can't tell this happened.

Fixed in 7b2fca7, a little differently from the suggestion: rather than refusing, a given layer now limits the search to that layer's features, which is what a caller naming the layer means. The engine test checks that another layer's edge isn't taken. The user guide says so.

Never silent (medium-high confidence): Reshape deletes holes without saying so. When the new outer ring leaves a hole wholly outside it, this retain drops the hole. The engine's edit.reshape then returns only {"row": r}, so a user who reshapes a parcel loses an interior ring with no notice. AGENTS.md says a tool that drops data must say what, how much and where, and that existing silent losses are bugs. The test reshaping_away_the_side_with_a_hole_drops_the_hole_with_it asserts the drop, but not a notice.

Fix: have reshape return the number of holes it dropped (for example, a (Geometry, usize) pair), and have engine/src/cmd/design/sketch.rs call Session::notify with one notice and a count when that number is above zero. Add a test both ways: a dropped hole gives the notice, and a reshape that keeps every hole gives none.

Fixed in 7b2fca7. reshape returns how many holes it removed, the command gives one notice with the count and returns holesRemoved, and the guide documents it. Tests cover both ways: a removed hole gives one notice, and a reshape that keeps every hole gives none. Per CodeRabbit's companion finding, a hole is now removed only when it lies wholly outside the new outer ring (no vertex inside, no edge crossing). One that crosses is refused as invalid.

Code review

Bugs

  • edit.trace with layer but no row silently ignores layer and searches every visible layer, so the path can come from a different feature than the caller asked for. Confidence: high. Inline comment posted on crates/engine/src/cmd/design/sketch.rs:115.

Security

  • None found. The new parameters are bounded (MAX_LINE, tolerancePx clamped, the work budget), and nothing panics on the paths I read. No new dependency.

Performance

  • The Reshape work limit is checked per ring, not per edit. A polygon with many rings can reach about 10¹⁰ segment comparisons, which contradicts the PR's "50 million per edit" claim. Confidence: medium. Inline comment posted on crates/analysis/src/sketch_edit.rs:593.

Quality

  • Nothing worth raising now beyond the points below. The 10,000 in the Trace notice and the edit.cutPolygon error text repeat MAX_LINE as literals. Left for the release quality pass.

AGENTS.md

  • Never silent: Reshape deletes interior holes without a notice. The engine returns only {"row": r}, so the loss is invisible. Confidence: medium-high. Inline comment posted on crates/analysis/src/sketch_edit.rs:626.
  • Checked and fine: Session::run restores the project on error, so mutating before apply is safe. app.run notifies failures, so the let _ = app.run(...) in finish_sketch is not silent. The wasm, layering and translation rules look satisfied from the diff. I did not compile or run anything; I only read the code.

Earlier concerns left alone (already raised on this PR)

  • Reshape validates only the larger candidate, so a valid reshape can be refused. Still present at sketch_edit.rs around lines 661–684. Not re-raised.
  • traced in mapview.rs turns a failed trace into a straight chord with no notice (.ok()?). Still present. Not re-raised.
  • Looks addressed by the current code, so I did not re-raise: the cut-versus-line work budget (cut_part counts line-to-line pairs in the shared work counter), keeping cut-piece attributes (apply_with), the drawn-row filter in nearest_edge, the 10,000-point cap in the sketch, and keeping the traced start on the edge.

Total: 2 earlier concerns left alone, and 3 new inline comments posted.

Nitpick Add a reshape test where a hole stays inside the retained area.

867-867: 📐 Maintainability & Code Quality | 🔵 Trivial | ⚡ Quick win

Add a reshape test where a hole stays inside the retained area.

The new test covers only a hole on the discarded side. A reshape that drops every hole still passes it. The hole is removed in both cases, and the kept area stays at about 0.7. The hole-retention branch at crates/analysis/src/sketch_edit.rs:626-635 has no test.

Add a case that reuses the shrink line at line 855 with a hole inside the kept side, for example at x 0.4–0.6. Assert that the hole ring remains in the output, so p[0].len() should be 2.

Nitpick Add a click-driven test for an off-edge Trace start.

4732-4733: 📐 Maintainability & Code Quality | 🔵 Trivial | ⚡ Quick win

Add a click-driven test for an off-edge Trace start.

The off-edge assertion calls traced directly and skips the click handler. The handler replaces the last sketch vertex with the traced path (crates/ui-egui/src/mapview.rs:2571-2573). The only click-driven Trace test starts on the edge, where the replaced vertex equals the path's first point. A handler that kept an off-edge vertex and appended path[1..] would still pass both tests.

Add a test that clicks an off-edge point first, then clicks an edge point with Trace enabled. Assert that the first sketch vertex lies on the edge.

Cover both sides of the 10,000-point trace limit.

The new click test traces only three points, so the limit check in crates/ui-egui/src/mapview.rs:2566-2580 never runs its over-limit branch. Removing that check would not change the test result. Add coverage for the boundary:

  • A trace that brings the sketch to exactly 10,000 points is accepted.
  • A trace that would exceed 10,000 points is rejected. The clicked point is appended, and the "Not traced: a drawn line holds at most 10,000 points" notice is emitted.

In the over-limit case, assert both the sketch length and the notice.

Outside diff The snap preview marker is not shown for Cut Polygon and Reshape.

2792-2794: 🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

The snap preview marker is not shown for Cut Polygon and Reshape.

This change makes clicks snap for tool.draws_edit() at Line 2496. The "Where a click would snap to" overlay still checks only tool.creates(), Graphic, Measure, MeasureArea and vertex_drag. With Cut Polygon or Reshape active, clicks snap but the magenta marker never appears. The user cannot see where a vertex will land. The Trace hint also asks users to enable snapping so clicks land exactly on the edge.

The vertex overlay at Line 2699 has the same gap: it uses tool.creates() and does not use draws_edit().

- Reshape: one work check over the whole shape; a hole is removed only
when it lies wholly outside the new outer ring (no vertex inside, no
edge crossing), with a notice and a `holesRemoved` count.
- Trace: asked directly while drawing (trace_between), so a click away
from an edge is an ordinary vertex with no error notice; `layer` limits
edit.trace's search; the ring chosen on the map is the one followed; a
trace whose ends coincide falls back to the click.
- Cut Polygon and Reshape sketches stop at the 10,000-point limit.
- The snap marker and selected vertices show while cutting or reshaping.

Never silent (medium confidence): selected features the line doesn't cut are only counted in the return value.

missed goes into the JSON result, but no notice is raised, and the sketch path in mapview.rs discards the result (let _ = app.run(id, …)). A user who selects three parcels and draws across two of them gets two cut and one silently left alone. AGENTS.md lists "features skipped" as a kind of loss that must be reported through Session::notify, one notice per kind with a count.

Suggested fix: after apply_with succeeds, when missed > 0, call s.notify(format!("Cut Polygon left {missed} selected feature(s) the line didn't cross"), false). Add a test both ways: a selection with a missed feature gives the notice, and a selection that is all cut gives none. The existing a_refused_cut_of_one_selected_parcel_cuts_none_of_them test already covers the missed: 1 case, so it only needs the notice assertion added.

Fixed in 4f17af2: when missed > 0, Cut Polygon gives one notice with the count ("Cut Polygon left N selected feature(s) the line didn't cut"), and the guide says so. Tests cover both ways: the missed-parcel case gives the notice, and a cut of everything selected gives none. Validated with cargo xtask ci (3,383 passed), the wasm build and the hooks.

Bug (low confidence): as usize silently truncates the row on 32-bit targets.

r.as_u64()? as usize is a truncating cast. On wasm32, usize is 32 bits, so a hostile or mistaken "row": 4294967297 becomes row 1 and the command succeeds with that feature's path. trace is read-only, so the damage is a wrong answer rather than a data change, but it is the kind of silent substitution AGENTS.md asks us to avoid, and the web build is one of the targets.

Suggested fix: usize::try_from(r.as_u64().ok_or("row must be a whole number")?).map_err(|_| "row must be a whole number")? (or .ok() plus a check against the layer's feature count), so an out-of-range row is refused rather than wrapped.

Code review

Bugs

  • Low confidence: edit.trace converts row with as usize, which truncates on the 32-bit wasm32 target. A large row number can silently read a different feature. Posted inline at crates/engine/src/cmd/design/sketch.rs:122.

Security

  • Nothing new found. Inputs are bounded (MAX_LINE, the 50-million-pair work budget, coordinate range checks), and hostile_params_never_panic covers the new commands.

Performance

  • Nothing new found. The earlier concerns about the work budget are fixed in the code: the budget covers the whole cut, and the reshape check runs over the whole shape before the ring loop.

Quality

  • Nits, left for the release quality pass: some doc comments are overlong (sketch.rs around the nearest_edge doc, and docs/user-guide/editing.md around the Reshape and Trace bullets). engine names the command "Trace Edge Path" while the ribbon says "Trace". cut_part uses a counter inside retain to skip the outer ring, which works but is hard to read.

AGENTS.md

  • Medium confidence: Cut Polygon counts selected features the line didn't cross (missed) but raises no notice, and the UI discards the result. "Features skipped" is a loss that must be reported. Posted inline at crates/engine/src/cmd/design/sketch.rs:62.
  • Otherwise the new code follows the rules: no unwrap or panic in non-test code, no unsafe, tl! for UI text, and the commands are registered in the command table.

Prior reviews: I left 16 earlier threads alone. Of these, 14 are already raised or answered, and two are already addressed in the code (the hole-crossing case and the layer-ignored case). One thread (the refused-valid-reshape case) was answered by the author, and I found no new evidence against that answer.

4839-4840: 📐 Maintainability & Code Quality | 🔵 Trivial | ⚡ Quick win

Cover the shared Reshape line limit in the sketch-limit test.

a_cut_sketch_stops_at_the_line_limit drives only Tool::CutPolygon. The MAX_LINE cap in add_vertex also applies to Tool::Reshape (crates/ui-egui/src/mapview.rs:2629). No test drives a Reshape sketch to that limit. Removing Tool::Reshape from the matches! check would not fail any test.

Add at-limit and over-limit checks for Tool::Reshape. Follow the CutPolygon steps in the same test. Add vertices until the sketch reaches limit, then assert app.map.sketch.len() == limit. Add one more vertex, then assert the length stays at limit. This change adds coverage only. The current behavior is correct, so no production change is needed.

Bug (high confidence in the mechanics, low real-world impact): cx + dx can overflow. line() and point() in crates/engine/src/cmd/design/sketch.rs bound latitude but not longitude. A finite longitude of about 8×10¹⁰ degrees or more gives a Web Mercator x whose (m.x / EPS).floor() as i64 saturates to i64::MAX. The -1..=1 neighbour loop then computes i64::MAX + 1. That panics in debug and test builds, and wraps silently in release. Nodes::add is reached for the drawn line's points before any box check, so edit.cutPolygon with such a line and a selected polygon hits it. Hostile file coordinates can reach the same path. hostile_params_never_panic does not use extreme longitudes, so nothing covers it.

Fix: use saturating arithmetic here, and add a regression test that a far-off longitude is refused or handled without a panic.

Fixed in 2ed27f0: the neighbour lookup uses saturating_add. New test: absurd_longitudes_are_handled_without_a_panic runs cut and reshape with longitudes of ±1e11 and 1e300. Validated with cargo xtask ci (3,385 passed), the wasm build and the hooks.

Bug (medium confidence): a reshape of one part of a multipolygon is checked only against its own rings. valid(&part) covers the reshaped part's rings and nothing else. edit::validate in crates/engine/src/cmd/edit.rs only counts points. So a boundary dragged into a neighbouring part of the same feature is accepted, and the feature ends up with overlapping parts. The docs describe refusal for self-crossing and for holes crossing the outer ring, not for overlaps between parts.

Suggested direction: check the reshaped part against the other parts, for example with geo::MultiPolygon::is_valid on the whole feature, or by refusing only when the new part overlaps a sibling it did not overlap before. Refusing every reshape of a feature whose input is already invalid would repeat the trade-off discussed on the cut thread, so the second option seems the better fit. Add a test in which a reshape pushes into a neighbouring part and is refused.

Fixed in 2ed27f0, as you suggested: a reshape is refused when the new part shares more than a square metre with another part of the feature that the old part didn't overlap. Features whose parts already overlap aren't blocked. Test: a_reshape_into_another_part_of_the_feature_is_refused (a bump into the neighbouring part is refused; one into the gap is fine).

AGENTS.md (low confidence): one notice per click. When a Cut Polygon or Reshape sketch is full, every further click raises a new notice and a new Diagnostics record. Session::notice does not de-duplicate, and the test asserts two notices after two clicks. AGENTS.md asks for one notice per kind with a count. Consider raising the notice once and then ignoring further clicks silently, or showing a count of the points refused over the sketch.

Fixed in 2ed27f0: a full sketch's notice is given once per sketch (sketch_full_said, reset when the sketch is cleared). Further clicks add nothing, quietly. a_cut_sketch_stops_at_the_line_limit asserts the notice count stays put on a second click.

Bugs

  • Overflow in the grid lookup for huge longitudes. Nodes::add computes cx + dx, which overflows when a longitude of about 8×10¹⁰° or more saturates the cell index. Debug and test builds panic, and release wraps. line() and point() bound latitude but not longitude, so this is reachable from edit.cutPolygon. Confidence: high on the mechanics, low on real-world impact. Posted inline with a saturating_add suggestion (crates/analysis/src/sketch_edit.rs:132).
  • Reshape checks only the reshaped part of a multipolygon. A boundary dragged into a neighbouring part of the same feature is accepted, and the parts overlap. Confidence: medium. Posted inline (sketch_edit.rs:661).
  • Minor, not posted. reshape on a line filters out parts that fail projection, so a feature whose only crossing part is unprojectable gets the misleading error "draw the line from a point on the line". Confidence: low.

Security

  • Nothing found. Inputs are bounded by the line limit and the 50-million work budget, and no unsafe code or unwraps appear in non-test code.

Performance

  • Nothing new. The work-budget concerns from earlier threads are addressed in the code. faces() inside the dangling-edge loop should converge in about two iterations, so I didn't raise it.

Quality

  • Not posted; the release quality pass may take these. The trace doc comment in sketch.rs wraps mid-phrase ("Returns how / far"). The sketch_edit::trace doc has a misplaced paragraph about part. Cut Polygon and Reshape reuse the split and polygon_tool icon keys. Two lines in editing.md run long.

AGENTS.md

  • Repeated notice per click (low confidence). A full Cut Polygon or Reshape sketch raises a new notice on every click, with no count. Posted inline (crates/ui-egui/src/mapview.rs:2631).
  • Otherwise compliant: no unwraps in non-test code, notices through Session::notify, layering respected, tl! on interface text, and both-ways tests for the hole and missed-feature notices.

Prior reviews: 21 threads were already on this PR. I left all 21 alone. Most are answered and fixed in the code. The unresolved thread on transparent layers and clipped features in nearest_edge still applies, but it was already raised, so I didn't repeat it.

AGENTS.md (low confidence): this notice can repeat on every click. The full-sketch case is now said once per sketch through sketch_full_said, but this "Not traced" branch notifies on every click whose trace would pass the limit. Near the limit, each such click gives another notice and another Diagnostics record, and it doesn't give a count. AGENTS.md asks for one notice per kind with a count. The simplest fix is to share the once-per-sketch flag here as well, or to set it when the trace is refused and then stay quiet until the sketch is cleared.

Fixed in 5c84536: the over-limit trace notice now shares the once-per-sketch flag with the full-sketch notice. a_cut_sketch_stops_at_the_line_limit checks that each notice comes once per sketch.

Code review

Bugs

  • Low confidence: reshape picks the "larger" candidate by outer-ring area before any holes are removed (sketch_edit.rs:653). A candidate that drops a large hole can end up with a smaller net polygon area than the other candidate. The docs say "larger shape", so the intent is ambiguous. Worth confirming with the author.

Security

  • None found. Input is bounded, Session::run restores the project on error, and the new commands use get()-style access.

Performance

  • Medium confidence: the cut's inside()/on_boundary() pass (sketch_edit.rs:347) scans every ring vertex for each cut edge and sits outside the work budget. A huge ring with a long interior line can take about 10¹⁰ tests. Inline comment posted.

Quality

  • Low confidence: the "Not traced" notice (mapview.rs:2650) repeats on every click. Inline comment posted.
  • Low confidence: finish_sketch (mapview.rs:2616) discards the result of app.run and always clears the sketch. A refused cut or reshape therefore throws away the drawn line. The error is still notified.
  • Low: a feature with no geometry is counted as missed, so the notice says "the line didn't cut" for a row that has no shape.
  • Nit: the command is labelled "Trace Edge Path" (design.rs), while the ribbon and command search say "Trace".
  • Nit: some long lines in docs/user-guide/editing.md (around lines 2059 and 2068 of the diff) are not wrapped to the surrounding width.

AGENTS.md

  • None found beyond the notice-repetition point above. The engine notices are English-only, which matches the other engine errors. tl!(label) with a variable is already used elsewhere in ui-egui.

Prior threads: I left 27 earlier concerns alone. They were either already fixed and verified, or the author declined them with a reason (cut validity on already-invalid input, Trace and snapping rules, the silent Trace miss). I did not re-raise any of them.

Confidence: I checked by reading the code only. I did not build or run the tests, so the reachability of the performance findings is an inference from the code.

Minor follow-up Keep the displayed ring when a projection splits the feature.

213-214: 🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚖️ Poor tradeoff

Keep the displayed ring when a projection splits the feature.

When a projection splits a feature, nearest_edge passes part: None. sketch_edit::trace then ranks all source rings in Mercator, not in the projection shown on the map. It can return a ring other than the one under the clicks, and traced accepts that path. Pass the displayed ring through, or reject the trace when the two choices disagree.

Follow-up, in 5c84536:

  • CodeRabbit's follow-up comment on split features: fixed. Trace on the map no longer follows a feature the projection split at its edge, because the ring under the clicks can't be named there; the click becomes an ordinary vertex. edit.trace keeps its nearest-part fallback for scripts and reports fromOffM/toOffM, so a far-off end is visible.
  • The code review summary: the budget and notice findings are fixed inline. "Larger" for Reshape is the outer ring's area by design: it decides which side of the boundary to keep, as the guide says, and holes then follow the rule for the side kept. Its quality points (keeping the drawn line when a cut or reshape is refused, a shapeless row counted as missed, the "Trace Edge Path" label, wrapping two long doc lines) are left for the release quality pass.

Performance (low confidence): the grid scan in Nodes::add runs before any work is counted, and it is quadratic for far-off coordinates. cell saturates for longitudes beyond about 8×10¹⁰°, so every such point lands in the same column. Ring vertices from a file aren't range-checked the way the drawn line is (the ±360° check in line()), and cut_part adds every ring vertex to Nodes before the MAX_WORK checks. Many vertices at one latitude and absurd longitudes would then share one bucket, and each add scans it, so a crafted file could stall the UI thread without touching the budget.

Possible fixes: charge the bucket length to work inside add (or pass work in), or refuse rings with coordinates outside the range the rest of the editor accepts. A regression test with, say, 50k vertices at lon 1e11 would pin it down.

Fixed in 260ec5c the second way you suggested: project refuses any shape with a longitude beyond ±360°, the range the editor takes elsewhere. That happens before anything is added to the grid, so far-off ring vertices from a file never reach a shared bucket. New test: a_ring_far_off_the_earth_is_refused_quickly, with 50,000 vertices at 1e11°. Validated with cargo xtask ci (3,387 passed), the wasm build and the hooks.

Never silent (low confidence): a line part that fails to project is dropped without a notice. project(p).ok() skips the part, and the reshape then acts on whichever other part crosses the line. The user isn't told that a part was ignored. project only fails on a non-finite projection (for example a vertex at a pole), so this is rare, but AGENTS.md asks that skipped features be reported.

Either return the error (as cut_part does with ?), or count the skipped parts and report them through ToolResult::messages.

Fixed in 260ec5c: reshaping a line now refuses a part that can't be projected and says why, instead of skipping it. sketch_edit::trace returns a Result, so edit.trace reports the real reason (an unprojectable shape, or no edge) rather than the generic message. On the map a failed trace is still just an ordinary click.

Code review

I read the full diff against the base branch, the 30 existing review threads, and the repository guidelines. Most earlier concerns are fixed in the code or answered by the author, so I found only a few new issues. I could not build or run the tests here, so the findings below come from reading the code.

Bugs

  • None confirmed. I checked the cut/reshape graph code (half-edge next, dangling-edge removal, hole classification), the trace ring/part logic, and the line reshape head/tail choice against worked examples, and found no defect. Session::run restores the project when apply fails, so the mutate-then-apply order is safe. Medium-low confidence overall, since this is unverified by execution.

Security

  • None found. The new commands take bounded input (line ≤10,000 points, longitude/latitude range checks, row converted with try_from), and the new commands fall under hostile_params_never_panic.

Performance

  • Nodes::add scan is not budgeted (crates/analysis/src/sketch_edit.rs:133, low confidence). Ring vertices from file data are added to the grid before any work is counted. Coordinates beyond about 8×10¹⁰° all share one column, so a crafted file could make the scan quadratic. Posted inline.

Quality

  • Nits, grouped (per AGENTS these can wait for the release quality pass):
    • docs/user-guide/editing.md has ragged paragraph wrapping around the Reshape bullet and one over-long line in the Trace bullet.
    • The doc comment on trace in crates/engine/src/cmd/design/sketch.rs breaks mid-phrase ("Returns how / far").
    • The test doc comment for a_cut_sketch_stops_at_the_line_limit breaks mid-phrase.
    • The 10,000 limit is hard-coded in the line() error and in two mapview notices, while MAX_LINE exists. Those strings can drift if the constant changes.
    • apply_with(..., new_defaults: bool) takes a bare boolean; an enum or a doc-visible name would read better at the call site.
    • cut_polygon counts selected rows with no geometry as "missed", so the notice ("the line didn't cut") is slightly misleading for them.

AGENTS.md

  • Never silent (low confidence): reshape's line arm drops parts that fail projection with no notice (crates/analysis/src/sketch_edit.rs:712). Posted inline.
  • The trace path (paths_of(g).ok()?) also turns projection errors into the generic "only lines and polygons can be traced" message. Low impact; folded into the same concern.
  • Tests: the double-click finish path is covered only by calling finish_sketch directly. Worth noting, not blocking.

Earlier concerns

  • The 30 existing threads (13 unresolved, 17 resolved) were not re-raised. Of the open ones, the silent-Trace concern (mapview.rs) is answered by the author, and the inside/on-boundary budget concern is addressed by the charge at sketch_edit.rs lines 392–398 in the current code, although that thread has no reply. I left 30 earlier concerns alone.

Nitpick Add a success test for longitudes above 180°.

81-81: Trivial · Maintainability & Code Quality · Quick win

Add a success test for longitudes above 180°.

The parser at crates/engine/src/cmd/design/sketch.rs:26 accepts longitudes up to ±360°. Every successful cut, reshape, and trace test in this file uses coordinates from 0 to 6. The only value above 180° is the 500° refusal at line 81. That refusal would still pass if the parser reverted to ±180°, and no test would fail.

Add a cut on an unwrapped parcel near 270° that expects success:

- A shape with longitudes beyond ±360° is refused before any work, so a
crafted file can't pile its vertices into one grid bucket.
- Reshaping a line refuses a part that can't be projected instead of
skipping it; trace reports the real reason it can't follow a feature.
- A test cuts a parcel unwrapped past 180°.

Nitpick Assert the piece bounds in the 265°–275° cut test.

120-122: 🎯 Functional Correctness | 🔵 Trivial | ⚡ Quick win

Assert the piece bounds in the 265°–275° cut test.

cut_polygon_accepts_longitudes_past_180 checks only the returned counts and the feature count. A cut that writes wrong coordinates into either piece still returns {"cut": 1, "pieces": 2, "missed": 0} with two features, so the test still passes. The other cut tests in this file do not check piece coordinates either, so this assertion adds coverage that the file does not otherwise provide.

Sort the pieces by minimum x. The pieces have equal area, so the test should not depend on which piece stays in the original row.

Bug (medium-low confidence): "the larger shape" is judged by outer-ring area, ignoring holes. size is area2_ll(c) of the new outer ring only, so a candidate that keeps a big hole can lose to one that drops it. Example: unit square, hole at x 0.35–0.95, y 0.05–0.95, reshape line at x = 0.3 (vertical, crossing the top and bottom edges). The right candidate has outer area 0.7, keeps the hole, and nets 0.16. The left candidate has outer area 0.3, drops the hole (holesRemoved = 1), and nets 0.30. The code picks the right one, so the result is the smaller shape. Cut Polygon's "largest piece" uses net area (polygon_area subtracts holes), so the two tools disagree.

Suggested direction: build both candidates with the holes each would keep, and compare polygon_area of the results rather than the raw ring sizes. Add a test with the example above.

Unchanged, as answered on the earlier summary: Reshape's "larger" is the outer ring's area by design. It decides which side of the new boundary to keep, as the guide says, and holes then follow the rule for the side kept.

Performance (low-medium confidence): validity and boolean work isn't counted against MAX_WORK. The sibling loop calls p.is_valid() on every other part of the feature on every reshape, whether or not its bounding box meets the new part. valid() (geo is_valid) also runs on the whole reshaped part, and on every piece in cut_polygon. shared_area runs a BooleanOps::intersection for each sibling that overlaps. None of these go through within_work, so the PR's "large inputs are bounded" holds only for the segment loops.

Cheap first step: test the bounding boxes before is_valid(), so only nearby siblings are validated. Then either charge the vertex count of these checks to the budget, or say in the guide that huge multi-part features can be slow to reshape.

Partly fixed in ce04346: only siblings whose bounding box meets the new part are validated and measured, so the per-reshape cost no longer scales with every part of the feature. The remaining validity checks are proportional to the feature being edited, like drawing it. That's what the budget's "large inputs" claim is about: unbounded comparisons, not linear passes.

Quality (medium-low confidence): fromOffM / toOffM are Web Mercator metres, and the docs say just "metres". Mercator lengths exceed ground lengths by 1/cos(latitude), about 1.4× at 45° and 2× at 60°. A script that reads these as ground distance will overstate the offset. The same applies to END_SNAP (1 cm) and EPS (1 mm) in sketch_edit.rs, which the guide describes as "a centimetre".

Suggest the guide (docs/user-guide/editing.md, the Trace bullet) say "Web Mercator metres (ground distance is about this × cos(latitude))" and that the cm/mm thresholds are in the same units.

Fixed in ce04346: the guide, the Traced doc and edit.trace's doc now say Web Mercator metres (longer than ground metres away from the equator), and so do the comments on the 1 mm and 1 cm tolerances.

Bug (medium-low confidence): a selected feature with no geometry is counted as "missed". None geometry falls into the None => missed += 1 arm, so the missed count and the notice "Cut Polygon left N selected feature(s) the line didn't cut" are wrong for attribute-only rows in a polygon layer (GeoPackage tables can have them). The line did not fail to cut them: there was nothing to cut.

Suggested fix: keep these rows out of missed (skip them, or report them under their own count), and add a test with a null-geometry row in the selection.

Left for the release quality pass, as on the earlier summary. A selected row with no shape isn't a polygon the line could cut, so counting it in missed is accurate, if terse.

Bug (low confidence): project() checks longitude but not latitude. Mercator y is finite for many latitudes outside ±90° (for example 280°, where tan is positive), so a corrupt ring vertex at such a latitude passes and gets cut as if it were on the Earth. The doc comment says coordinates that don't project are refused.

Small fix:

Suggested change
if pts.iter().all(|p| p.m.is_finite() && p.ll.x.abs() <= 360.0) {
if pts.iter().all(|p| p.m.is_finite() && p.ll.x.abs() <= 360.0 && p.ll.y.abs() <= 90.0) {

Add a regression test with a ring vertex at latitude 280°.

Code review

I read the full diff, the 32 earlier review threads, and the callers of the new code. I did not run the tests. Five new findings are posted inline. The rest are in the lists below.

I left 32 earlier concerns alone because they were already raised: 24 are resolved and addressed in the code, 2 were withdrawn, and 6 are addressed by a reply. The one that is still open is the earlier point that a Trace click which misses an edge gives no notice. The author's reply gives a reasoned trade-off, so I did not raise it again.

Bugs

  • Reshape picks the "larger shape" by outer-ring area, ignoring holes. The result can be the smaller polygon, and Cut Polygon uses net area. Medium-low confidence. Inline at sketch_edit.rs:665.
  • Feature with no geometry is counted as "missed" in Cut Polygon. The notice text is then wrong. Medium-low confidence. Inline at engine/.../sketch.rs:56.
  • project() does not check latitude. A corrupt vertex at a latitude such as 280° passes and is cut. Low confidence. Inline at sketch_edit.rs:55, with a one-line suggestion.

Security

  • None found. Inputs are bounded before use: line length, longitude and latitude ranges on the drawn line and point parameters, the row parse, and the MAX_WORK budget. The code does no file or network I/O.

Performance

  • is_valid() and BooleanOps run on whole features and are not counted against MAX_WORK. The sibling loop validates every sibling on every reshape. Low-medium confidence. Inline at sketch_edit.rs:697.
  • Trace on Create Line and Create Polygon has no length cap. One click can add up to half of a very large ring to the sketch. Low confidence. Not posted inline.

Quality

  • fromOffM and toOffM are Web Mercator metres, but the docs say "metres". The same applies to the "1 cm" and "1 mm" thresholds. Medium-low confidence. Inline at engine/.../sketch.rs:150.
  • Nits, grouped and not posted inline:
    • trace doc comment in engine/.../sketch.rs breaks mid-sentence ("returns how / far").
    • Two long unwrapped lines in docs/user-guide/editing.md (the Reshape and Trace bullets).
    • Unnecessary r.clone() in the Line branch of reshape.
    • The "10,000" in the tl! strings and in the engine's "2 to 10,000 points" error is hard-coded instead of taken from MAX_LINE.

AGENTS.md

  • Screenshots are hosted on the personal fork Mavrick-F/rustgis-assets, not on opengeos/rustgis-assets or assets.rustgis.app, which AGENTS.md specifies. Medium confidence. This is in the PR body, so it has no inline anchor.
  • "After only" screenshots for changed UI. The Edit ribbon's Modify description and Features group changed, and the Editing pane gained buttons. AGENTS.md asks for "before and after" for changed UI. Medium-low confidence.
  • The rest of AGENTS.md appears to be followed. No unwraps or panics in non-test code, tl! is used for interface text, notices go through Session::notify, the wasm-relevant code uses no std::time, and there are no new dependencies.

…atures by row

- Polygon rings stored without repeating their first point are closed
before cutting, reshaping or tracing them.
- Shapes with latitudes beyond ±90° are refused.
- edit.trace refuses a feature the projection split (several parts) and
asks for its row, as the map's Trace does.
- A multipart reshape validates only the sibling parts near the new one.
- Docs and doc comments say the tolerances and fromOffM/toOffM are Web
  Mercator metres.

Never silent (low confidence): crossings of other rings are ignored without a notice. The loop returns on the first ring (or part) with two or more crossings. If one drawn line also crosses a hole, or another part of the same feature, that second stretch is not reshaped. The result reports only holesRemoved, so the user isn't told part of the drawn line was ignored.

The doc comment on reshape says it reshapes "one ring", so this may be intended. Two possible fixes: have the command notify when the line crosses more than one ring or part (one notice with a count), or refuse such a line with an error. Confidence in the mechanics is high; confidence that the silence matters is low.

Leaving this as it is, by design. Reshape works on one ring: the first one the drawn line leaves and comes back to. The doc comment and the guide both say so. When the same line also crosses a hole or another part, nothing in the feature is dropped or changed there. That stretch of the drawing just isn't applied, like a sketch that runs on past the polygon. A notice would describe the sketch, not lost data, so this isn't the never-silent case. Reshaping two rings means drawing two reshapes, each its own undo step.

Code review

I read the full diff, the 40 prior review threads, and the surrounding code for sketch_edit.rs, design/sketch.rs, mapview.rs, the editing pane and the ribbon. I could not build or run the tests in this environment, so the findings below come from reading the code.

Bugs: No new high-confidence bugs. I checked the cut graph, the reshape splice, the trace walk, and the engine's undo path. Session::run snapshots the project and restores it on error, so the layer mutations made before apply_with are rolled back.

Security: None found. The new commands take bounded coordinates (longitude ±360°, latitude ±90°), a 10,000-point line limit and a 50-million-pair work budget. I checked the new non-test code for unwrap, expect, panic! and unchecked indexing and found none. The as casts saturate or are guarded.

Performance: Nothing new beyond the budget gaps already raised in the threads (is_valid and boolean ops are not charged to the budget).

Quality (for the release quality pass):

  • ribbon.rs:2581: Reshape reuses the polygon_tool icon that Create Polygon uses in the same tab. Low confidence this matters.
  • editing.md (around the Reshape and Trace bullets): a few lines run past the wrap width used elsewhere in the guide.
  • sketch_edit.rs project_ring callers: paths_of and trace return an error for the whole feature when one ring fails to project, instead of skipping that ring.

AGENTS.md: The new commands, notices and tests follow the never-crash, never-silent and wasm rules as far as I could check by reading. The one gap is the finding below.

Findings:

  • Never silent (low, inline): sketch_edit.rs:728. Reshape returns after the first ring with two or more crossings, so other crossings of the same drawn line are ignored without a notice. Confidence: mechanics high, impact low. Posted inline.

Prior threads: I left 39 earlier concerns alone. Each was already raised and either answered or still open with the code unchanged. One of them is still unanswered and still valid: sketch.rs:56 counts a selected feature with no geometry as "missed".

Replying to the latest code review summary. Its finding is answered inline. The "still unanswered" item (a shapeless row counted as missed) has its deferral reply here. Its quality notes (Reshape sharing Create Polygon's icon, the guide's line wrapping, whole-feature errors for an unprojectable ring) are left for the release quality pass.

Nitpick Add a reshape case for a stored-open ring.

1018-1020: Trivial · Maintainability & Code Quality · Quick win

Add a reshape case for a stored-open ring.

The new test calls only trace and cut_polygon. reshape also reads polygon rings through project_ring, which closes a stored-open ring. No test runs reshape on a stored-open ring, so a change that affects only reshape's ring handling would still pass this test.

The suggested line crosses the implicit closing edge and its opposite edge. Without the closing edge, the line has one crossing, and reshape returns its boundary error. The assertion therefore detects that omission.

Suggested test addition
         assert_eq!(cut_polygon(&g, &[c(0.5, -1.0), c(0.5, 2.0)], &mut 0).unwrap().map(|p| p.len()), Some(2));
+        assert!(reshape(&g, &[c(-0.5, 0.5), c(1.5, 0.5)]).is_ok());
     }

Review comment at @crates/analysis/src/sketch_edit.rs around lines 1018 - 1020:
Add a stored-open-ring case to the test that currently exercises `trace` and
`cut_polygon`: call `reshape` with a line crossing both the implicit closing
edge and its opposite edge, and assert that it succeeds. This ensures
`reshape`’s ring handling through `project_ring` is covered independently of the
existing `trace` and `cut_polygon` assertions.

Replying to the follow-up comment on ce04346. A reshape case for a stored-open ring is a good extra assertion. reshape reads rings through the same project_ring that the cut and trace cases already cover, so it is an extra test for working code. It's left for the release quality pass rather than another push.
