Include web tile layers in map.search results and the left-pane search box. Tile hits display under LAYERS with the overlay suffix and zoom using the same bounds logic as Zoom To Layer, including PMTiles/COG header bounds and existing errors for missing bounds.

Walkthrough
Search returns matching map tiles as hits. Each hit retains a snapshot of tile properties so navigation can resolve it after the tile stack changes. The search box displays tile hits and resolves the current tile before navigation.
Changes: Tile Search and Navigation
Layer / File(s)
Summary
Tile hit search and identity crates/engine/src/cmd/search.rs
Search records an identity snapshot for each matching tile. Serialized tile hits retain their existing fields. Tests cover visible and hidden tile matches and hit limits.
Navigation resolves the retained identity against the current tile stack and zooms to the resolved tile. It reports an error if the tile is no longer present. Tests cover bounds, stack changes, dated URL changes, and PMTiles header bounds.
Tile hit display and selection crates/ui-egui/src/searchbox.rs
The search box displays tile hits with the basemap icon and marks overlays. Picking a tile resolves its current index before navigation.

Full details: Linked Issues check
Explanation
Issue #809 requires matching WMS, XYZ, and WMTS tile layers in map.search and the left-pane search box. search() creates Hit::Tile entries from map.tiles, including hidden and unbounded layers. The UI places tile hits under Layers and adds the · overlay suffix. Tile selection resolves the current layer identity and calls zoom_to_index, which uses the existing tile extent logic. That logic uses service bounds or PMTiles/COG header bounds and preserves missing-bounds errors. The JSON result includes kind: "tile", index, label, and overlay. Tests cover unbounded layers, bounds navigation, reordering, removal, search limits, dated URLs, and PMTiles header bounds.
Full details: Out of Scope Changes check
Explanation
The changes remain within issue #809. TileIdentity and index_of_identity keep a tile search hit valid after stack reordering and time-URL changes. The stale-layer error supports the search behavior when a layer is removed or changed. The shared zoom helper and the added tests directly support tile search and its required navigation behavior. No unrelated change is evident.

A rabbit finds tiles by name, Their saved identities stay the same. Across the stack, they find their place, Then bound to bounds with steady grace. The search box shows them in a row, And off to tile extents they go.
Comment @coderabbitai help to get the list of available commands.
I read the diff and the surrounding search code. This PR makes map.search return web tile layers as Hit::Tile. It lets go zoom to a tile layer's bounds. It adds a search-box row and tests. I found no bugs, security problems or AGENTS.md violations, so I posted no inline comments.
Bugs
None found. go_to reuses the same logic as map.zoomToTiles. A tile layer with no known coverage returns an error, and the camera is left alone. The limit truncation and the numeric go index work with the new hit kind because it is just another entry in hits.
Security
None. The search is a case-insensitive name match over data already in the session.
Performance
None. The new loop is linear in the number of tile layers.
Quality (minor, confidence low)
crates/ui-egui/src/searchbox.rs:336: the row label is format!("{} · {}", name, tl!("overlay")). A literal overlay may be missing from the i18n catalogs. This is fine under AGENTS.md, because a missing entry shows in English. Check that the new string is picked up.
The category label reads "Layers" for tile hits. This matches how the Layers pane groups them, so it is consistent.
AGENTS.md
No unwrap or expect appears in non-test code. The tests use unwrap, which is allowed. User-visible strings use tl!. The shared helper zoom_to_index keeps the command and the search hit on one code path, and it is pub(super).
The icon "basemap" exists in icons.rs.
cargo xtask ci was not run. I could not run it in this review.

TileIdentity captures time_url, which changes whenever the time slider moves (dated tile layers). A retained search hit would then report "has changed; search again" even though the layer is the same. Consider keying on the base url (plus name/kind) instead. Confidence: medium.
Nit: the two separate impl TileIdentity blocks can be merged.
I posted one inline comment. I found no crashes or security problems in the changed code. I did not build the code or run the tests.
Bugs
crates/engine/src/cmd/search.rs:51 (medium confidence).TileIdentity records time_url, which changes when the time slider moves on a dated tile layer. A search hit kept before the slider moves would then fail with "has changed; search again" even though the layer is the same. Keying on the base url (with name and kind) would avoid this.
Security
Nothing found. Search only reads session state, and go_to goes through Session and the bounded zoom_to_index.
Performance
Nothing significant. In searchbox.rs, pick re-runs the search for tile hits, which is cheap and bounded by LIMIT.
Quality
search.rs has two separate impl TileIdentity blocks that could be merged (low confidence, nit).
If two tile layers have identical identity fields, the UI's position() call picks the first one. index_of_identity treats duplicates as stale, so the two paths handle duplicates differently. This is an edge case and low confidence.
AGENTS.md
I found no violations. There is no unwrap in non-test code, and the new UI strings use tl!. The new tests do use unwrap, which is allowed in test code.
I did not check whether the overlay key and the new "Tile layer has changed; search again" string exist in the .tsv catalogs. The guidelines say a missing entry shows in English, so this is fine.
What I checked
The diff in full and the "doesn't say what it covers" error string that the new test expects.
I did not trace the test assertions through the camera and bounds code.

Two tile layers can have the same identity, for example the same source added twice with the same name and no per-layer differences. Both show up as separate search hits, but index_of_identity treats them as ambiguous and returns None. Picking either row then fails with "has changed; search again", and searching again doesn't help. That's an inaccurate message for a layer that still exists. Consider preferring the match closest to the hit's original index, or at least giving a distinct "ambiguous" message. Confidence: medium-low.
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
Addressed in d6bcc94: index_of_identity takes the stack position the hit recorded and resolves to the match nearest it, so layers that are wholly alike (the same source added twice) resolve instead of being reported as changed. Regression test: alike_tile_hits_still_resolve. Both new tests were checked to fail against the previous behaviour.
The PR adds web tile layers as search hits. A TileIdentity keeps each hit valid when the layer stack is reordered. I found one real issue and a few minor points. I only read the diff and the staged files. I didn't build the code or run the tests.
Bugs
Duplicate tile layers can't be picked (crates/engine/src/cmd/tiles.rs, index_of_identity). Two layers with identical identity both appear as hits. Picking either one fails with "has changed; search again", even though the layer still exists, and searching again doesn't help. Preferring the match closest to the hit's original index would fix it. Confidence: medium-low. I posted an inline comment.
Security
Nothing found. Search input is only compared against names, and the new code adds no unwraps, panics or unsafe.
Performance
Nothing significant. The search adds one linear pass over the tile layers, and index_of_identity is also linear.
Quality
The UI pick path in searchbox.rs now skips map.search for tile hits. It calls index_of_identity and then map.zoomToTiles directly. This works, but it makes the pick logic different for tile hits. Confidence: low.
The PR deleted the comment in pick explaining why the query and limit are passed. It still applies to the non-tile branch. Confidence: low.
TileIdentity ignores the current URL when the layer is dated, which is a sensible choice. Layers that differ only in their dated URLs can still look identical, which is the same ambiguity as above. Confidence: low.
AGENTS.md
The new UI strings use tl!, so they follow the translation rule. The new tests use unwrap and panic! only inside tests, which is allowed.
The new Hit::Tile variant is covered by tests: search, go-to, reordering, removal, results past the limit, and dated sources. I didn't see a hostile-parameter test for it, but the existing hostile_params_never_panic already runs map.search.

Low-to-medium confidence: bounds is part of the identity, but it is mutable state, not a stable property. If a layer's bounds is filled in or refined after the search ran (for example by an async archive or capabilities read, which zoom_to_index's "still being read" path suggests), matches returns false. The user then gets "has changed; search again" for a layer that was never reordered or replaced. The same goes for url on non-dated layers if it is edited in place. Consider leaving bounds out of the identity, or treating it as a tie-breaker only, since name, kind, the source URLs and overlay already tell layers apart and near breaks the remaining ties.
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
Verified against the code: bounds has no writer outside map.addTiles (crates/engine/src/cmd/tiles.rs:166). TileLayer::repair filters it (crates/map/src/tiles.rs:298), but nothing runs repair on a live layer, and the archive path (follow_archive) reads a header for the camera without writing bounds back. So a hit cannot lose its layer to a background bounds refinement.
url after add changes only through map.setTiles's COG look (bands / range / dequantize) or a rename — deliberate edits to the very layer the hit names, where "has changed; search again" is the honest answer.
Keeping bounds in the identity is what lets two layers that share name, kind, sources and overlay but cover different extents resolve exactly rather than by proximity after a reorder. If bounds ever become refined asynchronously, that field belongs in a tie-breaker instead — today it cannot move post-add, so the check stays.
The PR adds web tile layers to search results (Hit::Tile). Each hit carries a TileIdentity, so a hit still finds its layer after the stack is reordered or a dated layer's time slider moves. I read the diff and spot-read the surrounding code, but did not run the tests or CI.
Bugs
Mutable bounds in TileIdentity (low–medium confidence).bounds and a non-dated layer's url are part of the identity compared in matches. If either changes after the search ran, for example when an async archive or capabilities read fills in bounds, picking the hit fails with "has changed; search again". The layer was never reordered or replaced in that case. Inline comment posted at crates/engine/src/cmd/search.rs:65.
Security
Nothing found. The hash is used only for in-session comparison, and the new paths use get() and Option/Result handling.
Performance
matches recomputes digest(&tile.time_urls) for every tile on each pick. The cost is bounded by MAX_TILE_LAYERS and the size of the date lists, so it is negligible in practice (high confidence that it is not a problem).
Quality
In crates/ui-egui/src/searchbox.rs, pick removed the comment explaining why the query and limit are passed to map.search. That comment still applies to the non-tile branch, so consider restoring it.
The UI duplicates the engine's go_to resolution for tile hits: it calls index_of_identity and then map.zoomToTiles. That works. If more hit kinds need retained identities, routing them through one shared path would be cleaner.
AGENTS.md
No unwrap, expect or panic! in non-test code. The ones in the new tests are allowed.
New UI strings are wrapped in tl!.
There is no new dependency, no new asset and no layering violation (engine does not depend on egui).
The new tests cover search, go-to, reordering, removal, alike layers and dated sources.
Change size
Compared: the whole PR against main (merge base bb244b8 to PR head d6bcc94).
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
Nit: the comment explaining why query and limit are passed (so the index matches the row picked) was deleted, but it still applies to the else branch. query is also cloned even on the tile path, where it isn't used. Consider restoring the comment and moving the clone into the else branch. Confidence: high, but low impact.
I reviewed the PR from pr-context/diff.patch and the surrounding source. It adds web tile layers to the map search. The design is sound: a hit carries an identity and the stack position it held, so it still resolves after the stack is reordered, and a removed layer gives a clear error. I found no bugs.
Bugs
None found.
Low confidence:TileIdentity::matches compares bounds: Option<[f64; 4]> with ==. A NaN bound would make a hit never match, and it would then report "has changed; search again". I assume map.addTiles and project repair clean bounds, but I didn't check.
Security
None found. The new code takes no external input beyond the existing tile layer fields, and it has no unwrap or panics outside tests.
Performance
digest() hashes every per-date URL each time matches runs, and search builds one per matching tile. Dated cubes can list thousands of dates, but this runs once per search or pick, so I rate it a negligible concern (high confidence).
Quality
DefaultHasher has no stable algorithm, and hash collisions are possible. The doc comment says identities are only compared within a session, so this is acceptable. A collision would at worst resolve a hit to the wrong cube with the same name.
One inline nit on searchbox.rs: the explanatory comment about query and limit was dropped, and query is cloned on the tile path where it isn't used.
The tests are thorough. They cover reordering, removal, alike layers, dated sources, and hits beyond the search limit.
AGENTS.md
The new interface strings use tl!, and the catalogs don't need updating. The new code has no unsafe or panics outside tests. Hit Tile is added to the exhaustive matches in searchbox.rs.
zoom_to_index and index_of_identity are pub(super) and pub in engine::cmd::tiles. The UI calls index_of_identity directly, and that is within the layering rules.
I couldn't run cargo xtask ci here, so fmt, clippy and the tests are unverified.

Minor perf (low confidence it matters): matches re-hashes every candidate tile's whole time_urls list for each comparison, even when the cheaper fields (name, kind, url, time_url) already differ. A dated cube can list thousands of URLs, and this runs per pick. Move the digest comparison last in the && chain, as it is the costliest, or skip it when self.dated_sources == 0 and tile.time_urls.is_empty(). The chain short-circuits, so the order is the main saving.
The PR adds web tile layers as map.search hits. Each hit carries a TileIdentity and its stack index, so a hit picked later still finds the right layer after reordering. I read the full diff and the surrounding code. I didn't build the code or run the tests.
Bugs
No definite bugs found.
Low confidence: TileIdentity includes bounds, layers and style_layers. If an async metadata read (for example PMTiles or WMS capabilities) fills in bounds between the search and the pick, the hit reports "has changed; search again". That is safe, because it fails closed, but it could be surprising.
Security
Nothing found. The new code adds no I/O, and the identity digest is only compared within a session.
Performance
TileIdentity::matches re-hashes the full time_urls list for every candidate tile on each pick (inline comment on crates/engine/src/cmd/search.rs). The cost is only noticeable for large dated cubes. Confidence in the concern: low.
Quality
TileIdentity is a heavy value to clone into every Hit::Tile. It holds a name, URLs, a layers list and a style string. This is fine at LIMIT = 30, and the digest keeps the dated sources small.
The UI pick path in searchbox.rs resolves the identity itself and calls map.zoomToTiles. The command path (go_to) does the same through zoom_to_index. The logic is duplicated but small, and both paths share index_of_identity.
The tests cover reordering, removal, a hit beyond the limit, duplicate layers, dated sources and a PMTiles header. This is good coverage.
AGENTS.md
There are no unwrap, expect or panic! calls in non-test code. The panic!s are in tests only.
The new UI strings use tl!: "overlay" and "Tile layer has changed; search again". Missing catalog entries are allowed.
No new dependencies, and nothing wasm-incompatible. DefaultHasher comes from std and works on wasm.
Command ids stay untranslated.
Change size
Compared: the whole PR against main (merge base bb244b8 to PR head 9429977).
CI is red, but not from this change. main itself does not compile: crates/map/src/qgis/labels.rs:207 builds a LabelClass without the font field that #824 added to crates/map/src/symbology.rs:1329 (E0063). Main's own CI on 9f30da4 fails identically on ubuntu, windows and macos and on the wasm build; #825 landed the file after #824 added the field, and this branch is cut from bb244b8, so the merge commit our CI builds inherits it.
One line fixes it, in qgis::labels::label_class's LabelClass { … }: font: None, — the importer reports fontFamily as approximated (labels in {family}, drawn in RustGIS's label font), so None matches what it does today.
Key `TileIdentity` on the source template rather than on the URL the time
slider rewrites, so a dated layer's hit stays valid as the slider moves, and
merge the two `impl` blocks into one.
The search box resolved a tile hit by re-running the limited search and
comparing positions, so a `map.setTiles` reorder could navigate to another
layer. Resolve the retained identity to its index in the live stack and run
`map.zoomToTiles` with it; a layer that has gone still reports the stale hit.
`TileIdentity` kept a `has_time_urls` flag, so two dated layers sharing a name
and bounds matched each other and neither hit resolved. It now compares a
digest of the per-date addresses — a dated cube lists thousands, too many to
keep a copy of — so a hit names the layer it came from.
`index_of_identity` rejected any hit matching more than one layer and reported
the layer as changed; layers that are wholly alike (the same source added
twice) always match each other. It resolves to the match nearest the stack
position the hit recorded instead, so the row picked is the layer picked.
`map.addTiles` replaces a layer added twice, but a project load repairs and
truncates the tile stack without deduplicating it, so two alike layers do
reach a session.
Picking a tile hit resolves the layer by identity and never runs `map.search`,
so the clone belongs in the branch that does. Its comment — why the searched
query with the list's limit is passed, rather than the box's text with its
default — comes back with it.
This PR adds web tile layers to Ctrl-F search. It adds a Hit::Tile variant and a TileIdentity that is re-resolved when a hit is picked. It also adds tiles::zoom_to_index, tiles::index_of_identity, and the search box row and pick handling. I read the full diff. I couldn't compile or run anything here, so the tests are unrun. I found nothing that needs a change before merging, so I posted no inline comments.
Bugs
No defects found. The identity matching handles the cases I traced:
Reordering a layer in the stack.
Removing a layer.
Duplicate layers, using the nearest match to the listed position.
Dated layers whose current url moves with the time slider.
Low confidence, a minor edge: for non-dated layers, TileIdentity::matches compares the current url. If a layer's URL is edited between the search and the pick, the hit reports "has changed; search again". That is acceptable and arguably intended.
Security
No concerns. The hit carries no new untrusted input, and indexing uses get().
Performance
Low confidence, a nit: digest() hashes every per-date URL for each TileIdentity::of call and again in matches. A cube with thousands of dates costs O(n) per name-matching layer per search or pick. Because name is compared first in matches, only name-matching layers are hashed there, so this is cheap in practice.
Quality
DefaultHasher is documented as not stable across Rust releases. Here the digest is used only within a session, and the doc comment says so, so this is fine.
Tile hits are pushed before bookmarks and features, so many matching tile layers (up to MAX_TILE_LAYERS) can use up the LIMIT of 30 before feature hits. This is a minor ordering trade-off, with low confidence that it matters.
The UI pick path bypasses map.search … go for tile hits and calls map.zoomToTiles directly. This is sound, because it avoids index drift, and the test coverage is good. It does duplicate the "has changed" message in two places, with different wording in the engine and the UI. This is cosmetic.
Test coverage is thorough: reorder, removal, a target beyond the limit, dated sources, twins, and a PMTiles header.
AGENTS.md
No unwrap, expect or panic! appears in non-test code. The panic! and unwrap calls are all inside #[test] functions.
New UI strings use tl! ("Tile layer has changed; search again", "overlay"), and the engine error is data rather than interface text.
No wasm-breaking APIs, no new dependencies, and no new assets.
Because Hit::Tile is a new variant, any exhaustive matches elsewhere need an arm. I saw no other users in the diff, and CI's clippy and build will confirm.
