Data: preserve national datum shifts in ESRI WKT - #850
ESRI Shapefile .prj files omit EPSG authorities and TOWGS84. The WKT fallback retained only the ellipsoid, discarding the datum transformation that RustGIS already applies to the equivalent EPSG definition. This placed national-grid layers tens or hundreds of metres from their expected positions.
Recover bundled Helmert transformations by national datum name after validating the ellipsoid, while retaining the file's projection parameters and explicit TOWGS84 overrides. Recognize validated RDN2008 and IGM95 definitions as WGS 84-like, and read the supported Swiss oblique Mercator and Krovak East/North variants. Unknown or altered datums retain their ellipsoid and notice; unsupported projection and axis variants are rejected.
Testing
A 13-system ESRI WKT corpus matches the EPSG path within a centimetre and explicit PROJ Helmert references within a decimetre. The regression fails on the original code.
Regression coverage includes the Milan Shapefile, explicit shifts including zero, local projection parameters, altered ellipsoids, legacy IGM95 names, and unsupported Swiss/Krovak variants and axes.
All 18 focused WKT tests pass, as do the Shapefile regression and full data-crate tests in CI.
pre-commit run --all-files and the local WebAssembly build pass.
Every GitHub check on d6dbe2c passes, including workspace tests, lint, licences, WebAssembly, Python tests, source distribution and docs preview.
All automated review threads are answered and resolved.
Recover bundled datum transformations when a .prj omits its authority\nand TOWGS84, while preserving explicit shifts and projection parameters.\nCover national grids with ESRI WKT and Shapefile regression tests.

Walkthrough
WKT parsing now recovers selected national datum transformations from bundled EPSG definitions and recognizes specified Swiss Hotine and Krovak variants. Tests and documentation cover datum matching, transformation precedence, projection parameters, and axis handling.
Changes: ESRI WKT support
Layer / File(s)
Summary
National datum resolution crates/data/src/raster/wkt.rs, crates/data/src/io.rs, ATTRIBUTION.md, docs/user-guide/data.md
Recognized datum names can use bundled EPSG transformations when their spheroid axes match. Explicit TOWGS84 values take precedence. RDN2008 and IGM95 are treated as WGS 84-like. Tests cover transformation results and datum-note behavior; documentation and attribution describe the supported corpus and behavior.
Custom projection and axis handling crates/data/src/raster/wkt.rs
Specified Swiss Hotine and Krovak parameter sets map to custom PROJ definitions. Reversed-axis detection excludes axes with a meridian, and custom Krovak rejects reversed axes.
opengeos/RustGIS#837: Both PRs update WKT datum-name handling in crates/data/src/raster/wkt.rs; this PR adds national datum matching and RDN2008/IGM95 handling.

This PR makes ESRI .prj and WKT files without an EPSG code pick up the national datum shifts (Helmert transformations) that the bundled EPSG definitions use. It also adds the Swiss and Krovak projections. I read the diff and the surrounding wkt.rs. I did not build the code or run the tests.
Bugs
wkt.rs:655, Swiss somerc fallback (medium confidence). The arm matches any Hotine Oblique Mercator (Azimuth_Center) with a 90° azimuth and does not check the datum. Swiss somerc is a different method from a true ellipsoidal Hotine projection, so such inputs would be projected incorrectly instead of being rejected. The Krovak arm already gates on the datum; this arm should do the same for CH1903 and CH1903+.
Security
Nothing found. The new code works on parsed WKT with ?, get, and Option handling, and has no unwrap or indexing outside tests.
Performance
wkt.rs:755, repeated national_datum work (low confidence).national_datum re-parses a PROJ string with proj4rs on every call, and datum_note, earth and the Krovak arm each call it for the same datum. The cost is small and it could be computed once.
Quality
wkt.rs:755, spelling (low confidence).ISTITUTO_GEOGRAFICO_MILITAIRE_1995 looks like a misspelling, and the correct spelling is already listed.
earth() filter (low confidence). The known.filter(...) condition is hard to read. A short comment or a helper would make the precedence between a TOWGS84 in the file and a name-based shift clearer.
earth() token filtering (low confidence). The national-datum branch keeps only the +ellps, +datum and +towgs84 tokens. An EPSG definition that gives its ellipsoid as +a/+b/+rf would lose it. The current corpus passes, so this only matters for other datums.
AGENTS.md
No new unwrap, panic or unsafe in non-test code.
ATTRIBUTION.md has a row for the new corpus file, and the docs were updated.
The PR adds no interface text, so the translation rule does not apply.
Regression tests cover the shift precedence, altered ellipsoids and datum names, and rejection of the Hotine and Krovak variants. They also cover a Shapefile .prj round trip (io.rs).
I could not confirm that cargo xtask ci passed.
Change size
Compared: the whole PR against main (merge base ebbe8a5 to PR head ffed035).
- Restrict the Swiss projection fallback to CH1903 and CH1903+.
- Reject Krovak southing/westing axes and test both projection guards.
- Document and test the legacy IGM95 datum spelling from bundled EPSG
definitions, and clarify explicit datum-shift precedence.
I read the wkt.rs changes and their tests. I did not read the io.rs, TSV, docs or ATTRIBUTION.md changes in detail, and I could not run anything. The PR adds known-national-datum recovery to the WKT reader: OSGB36, ED50, Monte Mario, DHDN, Amersfoort, GGRS87, CH1903 and S-JTSK. It also adds Swiss (somerc) and Krovak projection support, and refuses Krovak with west/south axes.
Bugs
No definite bugs found. The datum match also checks the ellipsoid, and the Hotine and Krovak arms are guarded, so a locally modified grid is not given a national datum's shift. Confidence: medium. I could not run the tests.
Security
Nothing found. WKT input is parsed with get/child and ?, with no indexing or panics outside tests.
Performance
national_datum parses a PROJ string with proj4rs on every call, and datum_note and earth can each call it. This is small and only happens on CRS reads. Confidence: low.
Quality
The filter in earth is hard to read (towgs84(datum).is_none() || (wgs84_like(datum).is_some() && !shifted(datum))). A named helper with a comment would help. Confidence: low. This is the inline comment.
The Krovak guard compares X_Scale, Y_Scale and XY_Plane_Rotation with exact ==, while the azimuth checks use tolerances. Confidence: low.
AGENTS.md
The unwrap/panic! calls are in #[cfg(test)] code only, which is allowed.
The new esri_datum_corpus.tsv is covered by an ATTRIBUTION.md change.
No new user-visible strings were added, so tl! is not needed.
I did not check wasm compatibility.

- Validate the ellipsoid before accepting RDN2008 and IGM95 aliases,
sharing the existing national datum check.
- Test altered ellipsoids in geographic and projected WKT.
- Exclude the filesystem regression test from WebAssembly test builds.
The change is sound and well tested, and I found no blocking problems. I read the diff, the surrounding wkt.rs code and the new corpus file. I did not run the tests, because I have no Bash tool.
Bugs
None found. Edge cases I checked:
CH1903+ datum name:norm() trims trailing underscores, and national_datum checks the raw title for +, so CH1903 and CH1903+ are told apart correctly.
Explicit TOWGS84: an explicit shift, including a zero shift, overrides the national-datum shift. A zero shift keeps the named WGS 84-like definition only for WGS 84-like datums.
Ellipsoid check: an altered ellipsoid no longer inherits a national datum's shift, and the tests cover this.
Krovak and Hotine: both are accepted only for exact variants (Swiss datum with azimuth 90°, and Bessel/S-JTSK with the fixed azimuth and 78.5° pseudo-parallel), so other variants still get an error rather than wrong coordinates.
Low confidence: a Krovak WKT with no X_Scale, Y_Scale or XY_Plane_Rotation and no AXIS nodes is treated as East/North. That is a reasonable default, but it could be a South/West variant that omits those parameters.
Security
None. The new code only parses text from .prj files and never panics in non-test code, so it respects the "never crash" rule. Every unwrap is in test code.
Performance
Low confidence: ellipsoid_matches re-parses a PROJ string on every call, and national_datum runs several times per read. The cost is negligible for one .prj (inline comment posted).
Quality
The Krovak guards compare floats with == where the other checks use a tolerance (inline comment posted).
The reversed_axes extraction removes duplication and reads clearly.
The corpus-driven tests are good. Each one compares against both the EPSG path and PROJ reference coordinates.

wasm: the new tests are limited to #[cfg(not(target_arch = "wasm32"))] where they touch the filesystem. The wkt.rs changes are pure logic, so they should build for wasm.
Interface text: no new UI strings were added.
