Summary

Importing a GeoJSON FeatureCollection that declares the legacy crs member (GeoJSON 2008), such as {"type":"name","properties":{"name":"urn:ogc:def:crs:EPSG::28992"}}, read the coordinates as WGS 84, so the Arnhem outline from #930 landed nowhere near the Netherlands. Now the declaration is honoured.

Scope, stated plainly: named CRS only, EPSG codes and CRS84.

  • EPSG:N, urn:ogc:def:crs:EPSG::N, urn:ogc:def:crs:EPSG:6.6:N and the .../def/crs/EPSG/0/N URL form (anchored: EPSG:N, urn:ogc:def:crs:EPSG:<version>:N, http(s)://www.opengis.net/def/crs/EPSG/<version>/N; text that merely contains EPSG, such as x:EPSG:28992, is reported instead) go to Crs::parse. A supported system converts the coordinates to longitude/latitude. Dataset.crs / SourceInfo.crs records the declared system, the same model as Shapefile .prj, so Layer properties, export-in-CRS and Define Projection keep working.
  • CRS84 (urn:ogc:def:crs:OGC:1.3:CRS84, urn:ogc:def:crs:OGC::CRS84, OGC::CRS84, OGC:CRS84, CRS84, the opengis.net URL), EPSG:4326, null and no member: coordinates unchanged, no message, crs stays lon/lat.
  • Anything else (type: link, WKT or PROJ text in a name, any name that isn't an EPSG or CRS84 form, an unknown code, a name longer than 256 characters, any other JSON shape): not silently taken as WGS 84. Reading continues as lon/lat and a message naming the declaration (clipped to 80 characters) goes in ReadReport.messages and SourceInfo.notes. WKT and PROJ names are refused on purpose: Crs::parse would register a custom system for text from a file.
  • Axis order: coordinates are x/y (easting/northing, lon/lat) whatever the EPSG axis order, so EPSG:4258 keeps [lon, lat]. Test included.
  • Out of range: a coordinate that fails to transform, or comes out beyond lon ±180.5 / lat ±90.5, drops that feature. It is counted in ReadReport.skipped, a message names it, and crs_incomplete is set (as for Shapefiles), so Define Projection tells you to re-import. Coordinates that convert to a valid but wrong place (a declared CRS that doesn't match the numbers) can't be detected; Define Projection fixes those.
  • A crs on a Feature, a geometry, or a lone Feature / bare geometry is not part of the legacy text and is ignored.
  • GeoJSON export is unchanged: WGS 84, no crs (RFC 7946).

Both import paths use the same helpers (io::declared_crs, io::geometry_to_lonlat). The in-place source (files above 32 MiB, or "stream": true) keeps native boxes and converts a view's extent to native coordinates, as ShpSource does. Because crs may follow features in the file, a source with a declared system makes one more pass over the file in open_with that converts every feature. That cost is paid only for declared projected systems. It gives SourceInfo.notes the count of features that can't be converted (same text as the whole-file report). Those features are left out of every read, info.count, info.extent and the geometry type, so sampling, matched and the layer equal what the whole-file reader gives, and crs_incomplete is set only when a feature was lost to the crs (FeatureSource::lost_to_crs).

No command id or parameter changed. Proposal, not implemented: a crs override on layer.addData for GeoJSON (as for Shapefile/CSV) would help files with a wrong or missing declaration, but it changes an existing command's contract, so I'd coordinate it first. Define Projection covers that case for loaded layers.

Testing

  • cargo xtask ci: passes.
  • cargo build --target wasm32-unknown-unknown -p rustgis-web: passes (with Homebrew LLVM clang on macOS; Apple clang fails at the zstd link).
  • New crates/data/src/source/tests.rs tests run the same fixtures through the whole-file reader and the in-place source (scanned in memory and through a buffer) and require identical features, crs, crs_incomplete and messages:
    • EPSG:28992 under five spellings: extent inside 5.8–6.0 E / 51.9–52.1 N, crs = EPSG:28992, no message; window reads in lon/lat find the right features.
    • no crs, crs: null, CRS84 (both URNs), EPSG:4326: coordinates unchanged, no message, info.crs = EPSG:4326.
    • geographic EPSG:4258 keeps x/y.
    • 20 unrecognised or hostile declarations: exactly one message, coordinates untouched.
    • crs on features/geometries/Feature ignored.
    • unconvertible and out-of-range features skipped, counted, ids kept.
  • crates/engine/tests/geojson_crs.rs: layer.addData whole and with "stream": true lands in Arnhem; a crs after the features; GeoJSON export has no crs and round-trips to the native numbers; layer.defineProjection still works; crs values of any JSON shape (null, numbers, 200 kB strings, nested, invalid names) never panic. hostile_geojson_is_an_error_not_a_panic covers crs on every root type.
  • Smoke: rustgis-cli info arnhem.geojson on an RD fixture with the issue's crs gives layer extent [5.802307, 51.93305, 5.991733, 52.078478] with no manual Define Projection; layer.defineProjection={"crs":"EPSG:28992"} still runs, and "stream": true loads. I couldn't download the original attachment, so the fixture is the issue's Arnhem box in RD New.

Docs: GeoJSON row in docs/user-guide/data-formats.md. No ROADMAP/GEOLIBRE_PARITY item covers this.

Closes #930

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • GeoJSON files with recognized legacy CRS declarations are converted to longitude/latitude coordinates when read, while the source CRS is retained for the layer. Coordinates are interpreted as x/y regardless of EPSG axis order.
    • Features that cannot be converted or fall outside supported coordinate bounds are omitted and counted. Unrecognized CRS declarations produce a notice, and coordinates are read as longitude/latitude.
  • Documentation
    • Updated the GeoJSON guide to explain CRS handling, omitted features, and export behavior.

A FeatureCollection's `crs` ({"type":"name",...}) naming an EPSG code or CRS84 is
now read: coordinates are converted to longitude/latitude, whole or read in place, and the
dataset/source keeps the declared system. Declarations that aren't understood are reported
and read as longitude/latitude; features that can't be converted are skipped and counted.

Walkthrough

GeoJSON readers now inspect FeatureCollection-level legacy CRS declarations. They convert supported projected coordinates to longitude/latitude, report unsupported declarations, and omit features that cannot be converted. In-place reads also transform query extents and report conversion-related metadata.

Explanation

The title "Honour the legacy GeoJSON crs member on import" names the main change: the importer now reads the legacy GeoJSON crs member and converts coordinates instead of assuming WGS 84. The PR objectives and the raw summary confirm that the change covers named EPSG and CRS84 declarations, conversion to lon/lat, and reporting of unsupported declarations. The title is specific, short, and free of file lists, emojis, or vague terms.

Full details: Description check

Explanation

The description follows the template. It has a Summary section that explains what changed and why, with the motivating issue (#930) and the scope of recognized CRS forms. It has a Testing section that lists cargo xtask ci, the wasm build, new test files, and a manual smoke test. It has a Related issue section that reads "Closes #930". The Summary and Testing sections are thorough, and the description also covers edge cases, axis order, and a proposal that is not implemented.

Full details: Linked Issues check

Explanation

[#930] The PR handles FeatureCollection-level legacy crs declarations. Supported EPSG:28992 declarations convert coordinates to longitude/latitude and retain the declared CRS in metadata. Whole-file and in-place paths share the conversion behavior. Tests cover Arnhem placement, streaming, CRS forms, and skipped features.

Full details: Out of Scope Changes check

Explanation

The changes stay within [#930]. CRS parsing, coordinate conversion, loss reporting, import-path parity, regression tests, and GeoJSON documentation support the reported import defect. GeoJSON export remains unchanged. No command or parameter change is implemented. No unrelated change is demonstrated.

With a declared CRS, open now makes a second full pass over the file: it re-reads and re-parses every feature just to count the unconvertible ones. This source exists for files over 32 MiB, so open time roughly doubles for them, and the work runs on whatever thread opens the layer. Confidence: medium. Options: do the conversion check during the scan if the crs precedes the features, or compute the count lazily or approximately. Also note count (and matched in read) disagree after this: count subtracts the unconvertible features but matched doesn't.

Kept on purpose, and now documented in the PR body: crs may follow features, so conversion can only be checked once the declaration has been read, and the geometry isn't kept from the scan. The pass runs only when a non-lon/lat system is declared. count and matched now agree: failed features are recorded by place in convert_pass and skipped by matches(), so they are in neither (2c34940).

batch.skipped for GeoJSON also counts features whose JSON/geometry couldn't be read, not just ones the declared CRS couldn't convert. The whole-file path (Collector::finish) sets crs_incomplete only when unconverted > 0, so a file with a crs plus one unreadable-geometry feature gives crs_incomplete == false whole but true in place. The new geojson_paths helper asserts the two agree, but no fixture mixes the two causes. Confidence: medium-low. Consider tracking the unconverted count separately so both paths agree.

Fixed in 2c34940. materialize no longer uses batch.skipped for GeoJSON; it asks the source (FeatureSource::lost_to_crs), which is true only when features were lost to the declared system. That matches Collector::finish (unconverted > 0). New test geojson_unreadable_feature_alone_does_not_make_the_layer_incomplete mixes a crs with an unreadable feature and checks both paths.

Code review

The PR honours the legacy GeoJSON crs member on both read paths: whole-file and in-place. I found no crashes or security problems. The two concerns below are behavioural. I read the diff and the new tests but didn't build or run anything.

Bugs

  • crs_incomplete can differ between the two read paths (crates/data/src/source/mod.rs:476, confidence: medium-low). materialize sets crs_incomplete for GeoJSON whenever batch.skipped > 0. skipped also counts features with unreadable JSON or geometry, so a file with a crs and one unreadable feature gives true in place. Collector::finish sets it only when unconverted > 0, so the same file gives false read whole. No test fixture mixes the two causes, so geojson_paths doesn't catch it.

Performance

  • Second full pass at open (crates/data/src/source/geojson.rs:234, confidence: medium). With a declared CRS, count_unconvertible re-reads and re-parses every feature. This source is used for files over 32 MiB, so open time roughly doubles for them. info.count also subtracts the unconvertible features, but matched in read doesn't.

Security

  • Nothing found. CRS names are length-limited, WKT and PROJ strings are rejected before Crs::parse, and the messages clip user text. Link-type CRS declarations are never fetched.

Quality

  • The read_place refactor is clean, and the tests cover many hostile crs shapes.

AGENTS.md

  • There are no unwrap() or panic! calls in non-test code, and the docs are updated.
  • The new messages use plain format! rather than i18n::fmt. This looks consistent with the surrounding data-layer messages, which aren't translated, so I'm not flagging it.

batch.skipped counts every skipped feature in the in-place read, not just unconverted ones. A file with a declared crs and one unreadable feature (or one that changed on disk) sets crs_incomplete = true here. The whole-read path in Collector::finish sets it only when unconverted > 0. The two paths then disagree about whether Define Projection is blocked, and the new geojson_paths test doesn't catch it because it only covers the convertible and unconvertible cases. Confidence: medium-low. Consider tracking unconverted features separately, or accepting the difference on purpose and saying so in a comment.

Code review

The PR honours a FeatureCollection's legacy GeoJSON crs member on both the whole-read path and the in-place reader. I read the diff and the changed sources without building or running anything. The design is sound: the parsing is strict, a crs that isn't understood produces a notice, coordinates are checked after conversion, and the tests are extensive. I found one consistency issue, posted inline, and a few minor points.

Bugs

  • crs_incomplete differs between the two read paths (inline, crates/data/src/source/mod.rs). materialize sets it whenever batch.skipped > 0 and a GeoJSON crs is present. Collector::finish sets it only when features failed to convert. One unreadable feature in a large file with a declared crs blocks Define Projection in the in-place path but not in the whole-read path. Confidence: medium-low.
  • In-place features go through the transformer twice. convert_pass runs it at open and read runs it again for each feature. A file that changes between the two steps could make info.count and the extent disagree with what read returns. This is unlikely and read_place already guards against it. Confidence: low.

Security

  • No issues found. The crs name length is capped at 256 bytes, and only names that look like EPSG or CRS84 reach Crs::parse, so WKT and PROJ text from the file is never registered. Links are not fetched. Messages are clipped to 80 characters, and deeply nested crs values are only inspected with get. The tests cover the hostile cases.

Performance

  • A declared crs makes the in-place reader scan the file a second time at open (convert_pass). The docs mention this. The cost is one extra read of a file larger than 32 MiB, and only when a crs is declared. Confidence: high that it's intended.

Quality

  • geometry_to_lonlat hard-codes the 180.5° and 90.5° tolerances. Named constants would make that clearer.
  • The Collector::finish and GeoJsonSource::read paths each have their own copy of the "convert or skip" match. A small shared helper would stop them drifting apart.
  • Moving the "unreadable geometry" message ahead of the crs notices changes message order. It is harmless, and the tests compare both paths consistently.

AGENTS.md

  • No violations. There is no unwrap or panic in non-test code, the wasm32 cfgs on the new Reproject helpers match the existing ones, and the docs are updated. No new user-visible strings go through tl!, but the new messages come from the data layer, which is not translated.

alternating positions.

Code review

I read the full diff and the surrounding code paths. There are no blocking problems. The legacy GeoJSON crs handling is anchored, bounded and consistent between the whole-read and in-place paths, and the tests cover both. I did not run the test suite, and I left no inline comments.

Bugs

  • None found. I checked these:
    • is_epsg_or_crs84_name and clip handle hostile input without panics: oversized names are rejected before parsing, get() is used throughout, and there is no indexing.
    • Feature ids stay equal to their position in the file on both paths. finish uses n + 1 and read uses i + 1, so dropped features don't shift ids.
    • crs_incomplete is set consistently. materialize now sets it for GeoJSON with a CRS when features were skipped. It can also be set when features were skipped only for unreadable geometry. That's harmless but slightly broader than the whole-read path, which only sets it for unconverted features. Confidence: low.

Performance

  • GeoJsonSource::open makes a second full pass over the file (convert_pass) whenever a non-lon/lat CRS is declared. For files over 32 MiB that roughly doubles open time. The docs mention it, and it is needed to get an accurate extent and count. Confidence: medium that it's acceptable. It could be skipped when the layer is only browsed by extent, but that is a design trade-off.
  • matched in read() counts features whose native box meets the window, including features that later fail conversion and are skipped. A limit or stride computed from matched may therefore be slightly off for files with many unconvertible features. Confidence: low.

Quality

  • geometry_to_lonlat uses a ±180.5° / ±90.5° tolerance, and the same check applies to declared geographic CRSs. This is reasonable. A named constant would make the intent clearer. Confidence: low.
  • Reproject::known and transformer are cfg(not(wasm32)), and GeoJsonSource appears to be the same. The browser build needs cargo build --target wasm32-unknown-unknown -p rustgis-web to confirm. I could not run it. Confidence: low.
  • Refactoring read_place out of read removes duplication and is a good change.

Security

  • No issues. Crs::parse only sees names that match the anchored EPSG/CRS84 forms, so WKT and PROJ strings in crs can't register arbitrary systems. Name length is capped at 256 and messages are clipped to 80 characters. Links in crs are never fetched.

AGENTS.md

  • No unwrap, expect or panic! in non-test code. The new tests live in source/tests.rs and engine/tests/geojson_crs.rs, where they are allowed.
  • Hostile-crs regression tests are added, including deep nesting, huge strings and odd Unicode.
  • Docs are updated in data-formats.md. User-visible messages in the data layer are not translated, which matches the existing ReadReport messages.
  • Run cargo xtask ci and the wasm build before merging, as the guidelines require.

For GeoJSON this sets crs_incomplete whenever batch.skipped > 0 and a CRS is declared. skipped also counts features whose JSON or geometry couldn't be read, not only unconvertible ones. The whole-file path (Collector::finish) sets crs_incomplete = unconverted > 0, so the two paths disagree for a file with a declared CRS and an unreadable feature but no unconvertible one. The in-place path marks the layer incomplete, so Define Projection asks for a re-add, while the whole path doesn't. The new tests only cover the unconvertible case, so they don't catch this. Confidence: medium.

Code review

The change is well structured and well tested. I found one real inconsistency and a few minor points. I read the diff and spot-checked the wasm availability of Transformer (it is not cfg-gated in raster/mod.rs). I did not build or run the tests.

Bugs

  • crs_incomplete differs between the two GeoJSON read paths (crates/data/src/source/mod.rs:476, inline comment posted). The in-place path sets it whenever skipped > 0 and a CRS is declared. Collector::finish sets it only when unconverted > 0. A file with a declared CRS and an unreadable feature, but nothing unconvertible, therefore behaves differently depending on file size. The new tests only cover the unconvertible case. Confidence: medium.
  • matched and count disagree in the in-place path (crates/data/src/source/geojson.rs). info.count subtracts the unconverted features, but matches() still counts them through boxes, so Batch.matched includes features that read then skips. complete is not affected. Confidence: low.

Security

  • No issues. The CRS name is length-capped and matched against anchored forms before it reaches Crs::parse. That keeps WKT and PROJ text out, and no link is fetched.

Performance

  • A declared CRS makes the in-place source read the file a second time (convert_pass). The docs say so, and it only runs when a CRS is declared. Confidence: low, informational.

Quality

  • read_geojson_value clones the crs into a throwaway map just to call finish. Passing Option<&Json> to finish and declared_crs would be simpler. Nit.
  • The read_place refactor is a good extraction, and the read and convert_pass paths now share it.

AGENTS.md

  • No unwrap or panic in non-test code, and hostile crs shapes get regression tests. Docs are updated.
  • Interface text is not affected, since these are data-layer messages.

…count and type

- convert_pass records which features fail; matches() skips them, so sampling, matched and count agree with a whole read
- geometry_type is counted without them
- crs_incomplete comes from FeatureSource::lost_to_crs, set only when a feature was lost to the crs, as when read whole
- docs: CRS84/EPSG:4326 leave the layer with no other coordinate system

This second pass re-reads and re-parses every feature at open time, and projects every coordinate, whenever a crs is declared. For large in-place files, which are the reason this source exists, that roughly doubles open cost and reads the whole file synchronously. It also means the file can change between the two passes, though read handles that by skipping the feature. Consider this if opening is on a UI thread. Possible options are to run the pass lazily, to cache the converted extent, or to say in the docs that a declared crs costs a full scan. Confidence: medium (design and performance concern, not a correctness bug).

Code review

This PR reads the legacy GeoJSON crs member and reprojects to longitude/latitude. It covers whole-file reads and in-place GeoJsonSource reads. I read the full diff for io.rs, source/geojson.rs and source/mod.rs, and the start of the new tests in source/tests.rs. I did not read the rest of source/tests.rs, crates/engine/tests/geojson_crs.rs or the docs change. I did not build the code or run the tests.

Bugs

  • No definite bugs found. Parsing is anchored and length-capped, and Crs::parse only sees the recognised EPSG/CRS84 forms. Conversion failures are dropped and reported, never panicked on. The whole-file and in-place paths are kept consistent, and the new tests check that they agree. The fuzz-style crs shapes added to the hostile-input test cover deep nesting and odd types. (confidence: medium, since I did not run the tests)

Security

  • No issues. The crs name is validated before Crs::parse, so a file cannot register arbitrary WKT or PROJ systems. Clipping bounds the length of any name echoed into messages.

Performance

  • convert_pass in crates/data/src/source/geojson.rs:301 re-reads and re-parses the whole file at open whenever a crs is declared. This roughly doubles open cost for large in-place files. (confidence: medium; inline comment posted)
  • matches() now runs a binary_search on failed for every candidate feature. This is negligible, and the list is empty in the usual case.

Quality

  • finish in crates/data/src/io.rs now builds Feature { id: n + 1, .. } directly instead of calling push_next. This is deliberate (ids are not reused), but it duplicates id logic. A short comment, which exists, is enough. (confidence: low)
  • Warning order in finish changed: the "unreadable geometry" message now comes before the crs message. The tests normalise the messages, so this is only cosmetic.
  • geometry_to_lonlat hard-codes the ±180.5 and ±90.5 bounds. This silently drops features from a mismatched declared system, though the skip is reported. Naming these as constants would help. (confidence: low)

AGENTS.md

  • No unwrap, expect, panic or unsafe in the non-test code I read. The new tests use unwrap, which is allowed in tests.
  • Reproject::known and transformer are gated on cfg(not(target_arch = "wasm32")), consistent with the neighbouring items. I did not verify the wasm build.
  • A regression test covers hostile crs input.
  • I did not check whether the docs/user-guide/data-formats.md change is complete.

…d's skipped

FeatureSource::skipped_at_open (0 by default, forwarded by Fetching); materialize adds it to the reads' skipped, so the in-place and whole-file reports agree again and the parity test asserts it.

Follow-up in ba45972: a whole read of an in-place GeoJSON source now counts what the source left out at open (unreadable geometry, features the declared crs can't place) in ReadReport::skipped, through a new defaulted FeatureSource::skipped_at_open (0 for every other source; Fetching forwards it). The whole-file/in-place parity test asserts skipped again. cargo xtask ci and the wasm build pass on this commit.

convert_pass re-reads and re-parses every feature at open, so a file with a declared CRS costs about twice the open time of the scan. That's inherent in a crs that can come after features, but it could be avoided: the scan could keep each feature's box and test only the box corners and the center. That would be approximate, though. At minimum, consider noting the cost in the docs. Confidence: medium (design and perf trade-off, not a bug).

Also, failed is a Vec<u32> and places.len() is cast with i as u32. This matches the existing as u32 usage in matches, so it's fine only while the scan caps features at u32::MAX.

Minor: id: n as u64 + 1 bypasses push_next, so ids are skipped for dropped features. This is intentional per the comment, and it matches the in-place source. It does mean a whole read with a declared CRS now behaves differently from one without, because ids can have gaps. Check that nothing assumes ids are contiguous (e.g. id - 1 used as an index into features). Confidence: low.

Code review

I read only the first 600 lines of the diff (io.rs, source/geojson.rs, source/mod.rs, and the start of the source/tests.rs additions). I did not read the rest of the tests, crates/engine/tests/geojson_crs.rs or the docs change. I could not run anything, so no tests or builds were run. The PR makes GeoJSON read the legacy crs member in a FeatureCollection. The same conversion applies to a whole read and to an in-place source. I found no correctness bugs.

Bugs

  • None found. Things I checked:
    • The anchored allowlist for crs names, including OGC::CRS84 and OGC:1.3:CRS84.
    • A feature that can't be converted is dropped, and its id is not reused.
    • Counts and skipped stay consistent between the whole read and the in-place source.
    • Hostile crs shapes are covered by the added no-panic test.
    • There are no unwrap, expect or panic calls in the new non-test code.

Security

  • None found. The crs name is length-capped and matched against a fixed set of forms before it reaches Crs::parse. That keeps WKT and PROJ text from registering custom systems. Text echoed in messages is clipped to 80 characters.

Performance

  • convert_pass makes a second full read and parse of every feature when a CRS is declared, so opening such a file takes about twice as long. A crs can follow features, so the second pass is hard to avoid. It is worth documenting. (Medium confidence; inline comment posted.)

Quality

  • Whole reads now push features with explicit ids, bypassing push_next, so ids can have gaps when features are dropped. This is intentional and matches the in-place source. Check that nothing assumes contiguous ids. (Low confidence; inline comment posted.)
  • read_place and kind_slot are good extractions that remove duplication.

AGENTS.md

  • The change follows the guidelines I could check: no panics in non-test code, Reproject::known and transformer are cfg-gated for wasm, and the PR adds regression and hostile-input tests. I did not run cargo xtask ci.

Low confidence: n indexes self.features, which already leaves out features whose geometry was unreadable (Collector::add counts them in skipped and doesn't push them). The comment above says ids match the in-place reader, but the in-place reader uses the feature's place in the file (i + 1). When an unreadable feature comes before a feature that is dropped or kept, the ids differ between the two paths. This was already true before the PR, so it isn't a regression. The new test only avoids it because the bad feature is last. If that agreement matters, count the skipped features in n as well, or word the comment more narrowly.

Code review

The PR honours a FeatureCollection's legacy crs member, both when a file is read whole and when it is read in place. I found no blocking bugs. I read the diff and the surrounding Collector code. I did not build or run anything.

Bugs

  • Low confidence: the id of a converted feature can differ between the whole-file read and the in-place read (crates/data/src/io.rs:961, inline comment posted).
    • The whole-file read numbers features by position among those that were readable.
    • The in-place reader numbers them by position in the file.
    • Both differ only when an unreadable feature comes before others. This was already true before the PR, so it is not a regression. The new tests avoid it by putting the bad feature last.

Security

  • No issues found.
  • crs names are checked with an anchored allow-list and a 256-byte cap before Crs::parse. WKT and PROJ text is never passed to it.
  • Declarations shown in messages are clipped to 80 characters.
  • The tests cover junk and deeply nested crs values, and a link type, which is never fetched.

Performance

  • Informational: a file with a declared non-WGS 84 crs is read a second time when it is opened in place, to find the features that can't be converted. The docs say so. The failed list is only as large as the number of features that fail, so memory is fine.

Quality

  • The kind_slot and read_place extractions are clean refactors.
  • in_arnhem and rd-style fixtures are written twice, in crates/data/src/source/tests.rs and in crates/engine/tests/geojson_crs.rs. This is minor.

AGENTS.md

  • No unwrap, expect or panic! in non-test code.
  • No new unsafe.
  • New code and the hostile-crs regression tests follow the "never crash" rules.
  • Reproject::known and transformer are gated to non-wasm, matching the in-place source. I did not check the wasm build.
  • No user-visible UI strings are added, so no tl! changes are needed.
  • The docs are updated.
