Timely for Amazon Echo Show 5

A modernized, lightweight, and completely standalone build of the iconic Timely Alarm Clock (originally by Bitspin), re-engineered specifically for the Amazon Echo Show 5 and modern Android smart display setups.

Highlights & Modifications

1. Independent of Google Play Services & Google Account

• Removed hard dependency on Google Play Services (GMS) and Play Services dialogs.
• Bypassed forced Google account authentication and sync warnings so the app runs 100% offline and standalone.

2. Immersive Sticky Fullscreen

• Enabled native sticky immersive fullscreen mode (SYSTEM_UI_FLAG_IMMERSIVE_STICKY | SYSTEM_UI_FLAG_FULLSCREEN | SYSTEM_UI_FLAG_HIDE_NAVIGATION).
• Hid the top tab bar and bottom action bar for an unobstructed, edge-to-edge ambient clock face.
• Added FLAG_KEEP_SCREEN_ON support for continuous desk clock / nightstand display.

3. Display-Scaled Typography

• Increased the primary digital clock font size to 190dp and the date to 32dp.
• Centered the clock vertically to optimize viewing distance and readability on a 5.5-inch 960x480 landscape display.

4. Lightweight & Privacy-Cleaned

• Completely removed dead tracking and analytics libraries:
  • com.google.analytics
  • com.google.tagmanager
  • com.google.android.gms.analytics
  • com.google.android.gms.tagmanager
• Pruned the Settings menu: eliminated the "OTHER" category, device management, account switching, referral codes, and About screen.
• Blanked out dead Bitspin, Twitter, Facebook, and Google+ URLs.
• Replaced dead social media drawables with 1x1 transparent assets to decrease APK size and memory overhead.

Installation

Install via ADB:

adb connect <DEVICE_IP>:<PORT>
adb install -r Timely-Optimized.apk

Launch:

adb shell am start -n ch.bitspin.timelz/ch.bitspin.timelz.activity.MainActivity_

Building from Source

Prerequisites

• Apktool (v2.9+)
• Java Runtime (JDK 17+)
• curl

Build & Sign

Run the included build script:

./build.sh

This decompiles, packages, and signs the APK with the provided timely.keystore.
