What

The Dependabot alerts section (#220) now exempts forks, as the protection and CodeQL sections do (decided 2026-10-21: "we don't do forks").

  • Fork with alerts off: exempt, reason "a fork is not ours to govern (decided 2026-10-21)". Counted by class, not listed as a gap.
  • Alerts off with no fork flag: unreadable, "exemption cannot be decided".
  • Non-fork with alerts off: still off, still a gap.

probe_alerts takes the fork flag. Private is not needed.

Tests

bash scripts/dependabot-digest/tests/run-tests.sh passes. shellcheck -S info is clean. With the fork exemption disabled, the fork test and the summary and table tests fail.

Andrew decided 2026-10-21 that we do not govern forks. The alerts
section now treats a fork with alerts off as exempt, as the protection
and CodeQL sections do. Alerts off with no fork flag is unreadable
("exemption cannot be decided"). A non-fork with alerts off is still a
gap. The digest counts exempt repos by class with the reason.
