A shared Git workflow for AI coding agents.
Commit It helps your coding agent turn code changes into focused commits and pull requests that are ready for review. It guides the agent through checking the diff, selecting related changes, running relevant checks, and explaining the result.
- Commit changes: group related work, write clear commit messages, and leave unrelated changes alone.
- Prepare pull requests: describe the result, verification, and anything still unfinished.
- Review pull requests: inspect changes and correct in-scope defects when authorized.
- Resolve merge conflicts: preserve intended behavior and verify the integrated result.
The same skill works across supported agents, including Codex, Claude Code, and OpenCode. Your repository's workflow and permissions apply throughout.
Run this command in your terminal:
npx skills add sungyongcho-ops/commit-itChoose the agents you use and whether to install for the current project or your user account. The Skills CLI handles their discovery paths and can connect multiple agents to one installed copy.
You need Node.js and npm compatible with the Skills CLI. Commit It uses Git and
Python; GitHub operations also require GitHub CLI with access to the target repository.
After installation, check that your agent lists commit-it; restart it if needed.
Ask your agent to use Commit It and describe the work you want delivered. For example:
Use commit-it to commit the current bug fix, keeping unrelated changes out.
Use commit-it to review this pull request and report any remaining issues.
You can also invoke $commit-it in Codex or /commit-it in Claude Code. The agent
checks the working state and applicable instructions, verifies the requested changes,
and reports what it completed. Without permission to commit or publish, it prepares
a preview for you to review.
Update Commit It with:
npx skills update commit-itSelect the installation scope when prompted. Add -g for a user-wide installation
or -p for the current project. Check any local edits before updating, since the
command replaces installed files. Other installed skills are not selected by this
command.
