…ypetools#8328 Erase reference operand types before unboxing during binary numeric promotion. This prevents CFG construction from crashing on expressions such as `t + 1` when `T extends Integer`, while preserving support for captured type variables. Extend the existing `TypeVarPrimitives` all-systems test with arithmetic on type variables in both operand positions. The regression fails with `IllegalArgumentException: T` before the fix and passes afterward. Update the changelog. Validation on JDK 25: - `./gradlew :framework:test --tests '*FrameworkTest*TypeVarPrimitives*'` - `./gradlew :framework:FrameworkTest :checker:NullnessTest :dataflow:allDataflowTests` - `git diff --check` Fixes typetools#8328. null-pointer path, and add a test that verifies the resulting CFG conversion.

Looks like tests are not passing, converted to draft |
Recognize wrapper-bounded type variables in CFG unboxing and resolve their primitive-value methods using the erased wrapper type. Preserve the original operand as the receiver so the CFG models null-pointer exceptions and normal-path non-null refinement instead of invalid widening conversions. Add CFG regression tests for both operand positions and a nullable-unboxing flow test. Assisted-by: Codex (gpt-6)

Ok, this one is in better shape now and ready for review |
Handle type variables and intersection types whose erasure is a boxed primitive in assignment, method-invocation, equality, bitwise, relational, and conditional-expression conversions. Do not unbox a type-variable switch selector, since such a switch is a pattern switch.

@smillst Do not review until after msridhar#78 is addressed. (And I probably have some other changes, too.) |

@msridhar msridhar#79 added two tests that crash, thus exposing problems in the logic in this PR. Did you merge msridhar#79 without fixing the logic bugs that were exposed? |
|
@mernst it was unclear to me whether you were planning to fix the logic bugs or whether I should look into it. Now it's clear 🙂 |

@smillst CI is now green. I've added fixes for the issues @mernst identified and some additional issues discovered locally. The changes were done with AI assistance, and they look reasonable to me, but I'm not very familiar with the implementation of either the Value Checker or the Units Checker. So those changes could use some careful review. |

🩺 Stability & Availability | 🟠 Major | ⚡ Quick winUnbox short-circuit Boolean operands.
The short-circuit branch passes both operands directly to the conditional control flow. For
T extends @Nullable Boolean, this bypasses the unboxing node and its possibleNullPointerExceptionedge. It can miss the nullable-unboxing diagnostic fort && trueandtrue && t.🐛 Suggested fix

Fix unboxing conversions for type variables with primitive-wrapper bounds. Valid expressions such as
t + 1forT extends Integernow receive the required unboxing conversion instead of crashing CFG construction or the Value Checker.case nullbehavior.Regression coverage includes numeric and boolean operations, compound assignments, nullable unboxing, array dimensions, Java 21 pattern switches, constant-value propagation for all eight primitive wrappers, and chained and intersection bounds.
