CreateSpinfoC: report errors with a non-zero exit status - #887
Conversation
Add DaikonGetopt, a Getopt subclass that throws a UserError describing an unrecognized, ambiguous, or malformed option and handles -h and --help. Use it in Daikon and in the other tools that use Getopt. Remove Diff's -u and -z options, which had no effect. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
…nd --help Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
…menter argument errors on stderr, simplify ambiguity check
…option, report SplitterFactoryTest failures on stderr, shorten Diff error, align Annotate usage
… exiting, report instrumenter option errors in one line, make sentinels final
…enter -h to runtimechecker-options DaikonGetopt again provides nonOptionArgs, argsAfterLeadingOptions, a Supplier-based constructor, and setUsageHint, which codespecs#885-codespecs#888 use. The instrumenter's -h and --help handling belongs to codespecs#888.
… arguments in SampleTester and SplitterFactoryTest, fix --user-defined-invariant spelling

Review comments at @java/daikon/PrintInvariants.java:
- Line 345: Add Daikon.disc_reason_SWITCH to the longopts array in mainHelper
with a required argument so DaikonGetopt recognizes --disc_reason and the
existing option-handling branch can run.
Review comments at @java/daikon/tools/jtb/CreateSpinfoC.java:
- Around line 104-105: Update the temporary-file handling in CreateSpinfoC so
cleanup deletes only a temporary file created by this invocation. Create a
uniquely named temporary file and track its path, then delete that path in the
finally block only when creation succeeded; do not delete the fixed fileName +
".temp" path.
- Around line 85-86: Update the temporary-file IOException handler in
CreateSpinfoC to report the read failure as Daikon.UserError instead of
UncheckedIOException, consistent with the copy and output-write branches.

…rt all errors cleanly * Read the input into memory instead of copying it to a temp file, so an input file named *.temp is never overwritten or deleted. * Include the cause when the input cannot be read. * Process every file on the command line, as the manual shows. * Reinitialize the static parser on reuse, so mainHelper can be called more than once. * Report lexical errors (TokenMgrError) as UserError, naming the file. * Detect write failures when closing the .spinfo file, and close it via try-with-resources. * PrintInvariants: recognize the --disc_reason option.
…rs, never leave a partial .spinfo * CParser.ReInit now forgets typedef names from the previous parse, so a typedef in one input file does not affect parsing of the next. * Construct the static parser once, in a static initializer, and reinitialize it for every parse. * Process every input file even if an earlier one fails, and report all the errors together. * Write the .spinfo file to a temporary file and rename it on success, so a failure leaves any existing .spinfo file unchanged.
…ted exceptions * Write the .spinfo file directly rather than via a temporary file, so it gets the usual permissions; delete it if writing fails after it was opened. * If processing a file throws an unexpected exception, still process the remaining files, then report all errors as a BugInDaikon. * Manual: quote the current parse-error message.

Review comments at @java/jtb/cparser/CParser.java:
- Line 30: Update both changed ReInit overloads so clearing types preserves the
built-in names registered by main, either by storing built-ins separately from
per-parse typedefs or restoring them after reset. Ensure subsequent parses still
recognize names such as __signed__ and __const.
Review comments at @java/jtb/cparser/customvisitor/Printer.java:
- Line 41: Update Printer.close() to call out.checkError() after out.close(), so
errors recorded during closing are detected and reported as an IOException
before the method returns.

CreateSpinfoC reports usage, I/O, and parse errors as
UserErrors (non-zero exit status) instead of printing a message and exiting with status 0. It accepts-h/--help, and always deletes its temporary file.New method
DaikonGetopt.nonOptionArgsprocesses CreateSpinfoC's arguments. #885 adds the same method.🤖 Generated with Claude Code
