docs(comparison): present RustGIS and GeoLibre as complements (#951) - #963
This writes down the direction giswqs set out in #951: GeoLibre and RustGIS complement each other. GeoLibre is web and mobile first, and RustGIS is desktop first, built for automation and AI agents.
docs/comparison/geolibre.md. The short answer now opens with that framing and with each project's priorities and stage: GeoLibre is mature and focused on stability; RustGIS is young, changing quickly, and deeper in data design, reports and layouts. The two feature lists move under "Where each is stronger today", dated October 2026. The command-engine strength is renamed "Commands for scripts and AI agents". "Using them together" and the FAQ say that RustGIS opening .geolibre projects is planned, with GeoLibre opening .rgis later. "Why are there two?" uses giswqs's reason: to explore different approaches.
docs/comparison/index.md. One sentence with the same framing in the GeoLibre summary.
ROADMAP.md. The intro says the two complement each other and that GEOLIBRE_PARITY.md is a reference, not a plan. The four Exploratory items giswqs agreed to drop are gone: collaboration, mobile and field work, an SQL engine in the web app, and AI segmentation and detection. Opening .geolibre projects is added under Data at the source, linking [Feature]: Open GeoLibre (.geolibre) projects as maps #962.
GEOLIBRE_PARITY.md. A note says the list is a reference and names what is left to GeoLibre. The matching items are struck through with that reason, as the file already does for out-of-scope items: AI segmentation, real-time collaboration, review comments, share links, the Android and iOS apps, the touch layout, field data collection, GPS, and the web app's SQL engine note.
On the parity file:
GPS is struck with the mobile items, as the roadmap had it under "Mobile and field work": a GPS receiver on a laptop serves field collection, which is now GeoLibre's.
#665 (QFieldCloud) stays open. Only the roadmap and parity file stop listing it as planned. It may want a comment or a close.
Testing
Docs-only, so I skipped cargo xtask ci: it has nothing to check in Markdown, and CI runs it on this pull request.
zensical build from requirements_docs.txt: no issues.
SKIP=cargo-fmt,cargo-clippy pre-commit run on the four files: passed (end-of-file, trailing whitespace and large-file checks; the TOML, YAML and JSON checks had no files).
Clarified GeoLibre’s web- and mobile-first focus and RustGIS’s desktop-first focus, including RustGIS’s strengths in automation and AI-agent workflows.
Updated the roadmap and parity reference to distinguish RustGIS plans from GeoLibre capabilities. Collaboration, mobile and field work, in-app SQL, and AI segmentation and detection are not listed as RustGIS exploratory work.
Clarified that GeoLibre provides browser-based SQL, QFieldCloud is not on the RustGIS roadmap, and RustGIS plans to support opening GeoLibre projects.
Specified that QGIS project support is partial and ArcGIS Pro project import is unavailable; RustGIS project support in GeoLibre is deferred.
Revised comparison pages to describe shared capabilities, project strengths, and how the projects can be used together.
…os#951)
The comparison page leads with each project's priorities: GeoLibre web and
mobile first and maturing, RustGIS desktop first, built for automation and AI
agents, and deeper in data design, reports and layouts. Feature gaps move to
a dated section. The roadmap drops the Exploratory items left to GeoLibre and
adds opening .geolibre projects (opengeos#962); GEOLIBRE_PARITY.md becomes a reference,
with the web- and mobile-first items struck through.

Quality (medium-low confidence): the note groups AI segmentation with "web- and mobile-first features", but SAM and ONNX detection don't depend on the browser or a phone. The justification is the scope decision from #951, not a property of the feature. The same "web and mobile first" reason is then repeated on every struck item (including AI segmentation at line 180 and GPS), so the stated rationale reads as a blanket rule. Suggest naming the reason per item, or dropping AI segmentation from this list and keeping only the decision in the item text.
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
Agreed: the reason is the #951 decision, and "web and mobile first" didn't describe AI segmentation or GPS. Each struck item now says what GeoLibre covers instead (the mobile apps, the shared web app, the browser SQL engines, its built-in models), and the note at the top names the decision rather than a property of the features. Fixed in 3bd858d; docs build and hooks pass.

Nit (high confidence): this line is about 200 characters, while the surrounding paragraph and the rest of the docs wrap near 100. Rewrapping keeps the diff readable. Replacement for the new text (the next line, "compact native desktop GIS…", continues the sentence unchanged):

Scope: docs-only PR (4 Markdown files). No code, so no crash, wasm, or layering concerns apply. I checked the changed text against AGENTS.md, CONTRIBUTING.md, the internal anchor #using-them-together (present at docs/comparison/geolibre.md:154), the strikethrough convention already used in GEOLIBRE_PARITY.md, and for stale references to the removed items.
Bugs: none found. The internal link resolves. The check-box and strikethrough format matches existing items. The roadmap removals are consistent with the parity file.

Quality
GEOLIBRE_PARITY.md:18: the note groups AI segmentation with "web- and mobile-first" features, but that reason does not describe the feature. It is the RustGIS and GeoLibre: Which direction from here? #951 scope decision. Medium-low confidence. Inline comment posted.
docs/comparison/index.md:41: the new sentence is about 200 characters on one line, against roughly 100 elsewhere. High confidence. Inline comment with a rewrap suggestion posted.
Nit, not posted: ROADMAP.md:3 still says "Last reviewed: 2026-10-24". This PR edits the roadmap, so the date could be refreshed. Low stakes.
AGENTS.md: no violations. The PR does not add assets or code. The roadmap additions don't change .rgis or any command id, so the "coordinate first" rules in CONTRIBUTING.md don't appear to apply. Confidence: medium.
Not verifiable here: external claims about GeoLibre (Android and iOS apps, Docker image, the "1,000+" suite count), the #962 and #951 issue contents, and the attribution of the scope decision to giswqs (stated only in the PR body). These need checking against the sources before merge.

Review on opengeos#963: "web and mobile first" didn't describe AI segmentation or

Review on opengeos#963: browser SQL is a note on the checked Spatial SQL item, not
a struck-through entry, so the intro no longer says every item is struck.

Traceability: #665 is no longer referenced anywhere in the docs. The old line linked #665 (QFieldCloud), and the roadmap's link went with the removed "Mobile and field work" item. The PR description says #665 stays open, so keep the link on the struck line so the issue stays discoverable from the parity file.

Leaving this one out on purpose. An earlier review asked for the link to go, since a struck "left to GeoLibre" line pointing at an open RustGIS issue makes it unclear who owns it. The PR description records that #665 stays open, and whether to close it belongs on #665 itself, not in the parity file.

Wording doesn't match the list. The note says each item is "struck through below", but the Spatial SQL workspace item (around line 66) is only annotated, not struck. "Marked below" covers both cases.

Unexplained dependency. "GeoLibre opening .rgis projects follows once RustGIS reads a wider range of data" ties project-file interop to data-format breadth without saying why. The same claim appears in docs/comparison/geolibre.md. Either state the dependency (what has to exist first) or drop the condition and keep the plan as a plain statement. Confidence: medium; this depends on the maintainers' intent, which I can't see from the diff.
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
Good catch. The reason is that RustGIS is still changing quickly, so GeoLibre would be reading a moving target. The roadmap and comparison page now say it waits for RustGIS's project format and supported data types to settle. Fixed in 965dfe6.
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
Nit: this line runs to about 130 characters, while the paragraphs around it wrap near 100. Rewrap the paragraph (lines 41–44) so the diff stays readable.
This is a docs-only PR (4 Markdown files). I checked the diff against the AGENTS.md and CONTRIBUTING.md rules, the anchors it adds (#using-them-together exists), the strikethrough convention (matches existing ~~…~~ items in GEOLIBRE_PARITY.md), and the remaining "Exploratory" references, which are still valid. No code paths changed.
Bugs: none found.
Security: none. The changes add only links to GitHub discussions and issues (#951, #962), which I did not verify online.
The parity note says each item is "struck through below", but the Spatial SQL workspace item is only annotated. Suggested "marked below". Confidence: high.
The roadmap's ".rgis projects follow once RustGIS reads a wider range of data" condition is not explained, and docs/comparison/geolibre.md repeats it. Confidence: medium; this depends on maintainer intent.
Nit: docs/comparison/index.md line 44 is unwrapped (about 130 characters).
Nit: the "Last reviewed" dates (ROADMAP 2026-10-24, parity 2026-10-23) were not bumped even though both files changed substantively. Confidence: low.
AGENTS.md: the PR follows the CONTRIBUTING rule that a roadmap or parity change updates GEOLIBRE_PARITY.md in the same change. The "Exploratory" items it removes still match the remaining roadmap items. I could not verify the agreement with #951 from the diff.
Change size
Compared: the whole PR against main (merge base bf9b2c1 to PR head 3bd858d).
Review on opengeos#963: the condition "once RustGIS reads a wider range of data"
didn't say why. GeoLibre would be reading a format that is still changing,

Bug (tracking): the rewrite drops the [#665] link that the old line had. The PR body says #665 (QFieldCloud) stays open, and with this link gone, neither this file nor ROADMAP.md points to it anymore. Restoring the link keeps the open issue tied to the parity item.

Restored, with its status so the ownership is clear: the item now says a QFieldCloud connection, requested in #665, is not planned either. That keeps the open issue traceable without the struck line implying RustGIS will build it. Fixed in c10b2b4.

Quality (tracking): the "Mobile and field work … QFieldCloud ([#665])" bullet was removed from this list. The PR body says #665 stays open and may need a comment or a close. As written, the open issue no longer appears on the roadmap at all. Either keep a pointer to #665 somewhere in the roadmap, or close or comment on the issue in the same change so the two stay consistent. Confidence: medium.
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
The roadmap lists what is planned, so I've kept #665 out of it. The parity file now links it as not planned (c10b2b4). Closing or commenting on #665 is for its own thread rather than this docs PR.
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
Quality (unsourced claim): "its development now centres on stability, performance and usability" describes GeoLibre's current direction, and nothing in the repo or the PR links a source for it. This is a comparison page about another project, so either cite where that comes from (for example the GeoLibre roadmap or release notes) or soften it to something verifiable. Confidence: medium.
I reviewed the whole PR diff (4 Markdown files, docs only). No code, assets or dependencies changed. The strike-through format matches existing items in GEOLIBRE_PARITY.md, and the #962 and #951 links are used consistently. The .rgis and .geolibre extensions match the rest of the docs. I could not verify the off-repo discussion #951 or the issue links, since I have no network access.
docs/comparison/geolibre.md:25: "its development now centres on stability, performance and usability" is a claim about GeoLibre with no source. Cite it or soften it. Confidence: medium.
Nits (not posted inline):
ROADMAP.md header still says "Last reviewed: 2026-10-24" although the content changed substantially. Confidence: low.
docs/comparison/index.md:44 is a very long line, unlike the surrounding wrapped text. GEOLIBRE_PARITY.md:54 is similar. Confidence: high.
AGENTS.md
No violations found. The PR is docs-only and CONTRIBUTING.md's "Pick freely or coordinate first" rules do not apply. The roadmap removals rest on the maintainer decision recorded in discussion RustGIS and GeoLibre: Which direction from here? #951, which I could not check. Confidence: medium.

Bugs / consistency (confidence: medium). This says "the plan is for each to open the other's projects", but the Using them together section and the FAQ say RustGIS opening .geolibre comes first and GeoLibre opening .rgis is "later". Agreed. The short answer now gives the same order as the rest of the page: RustGIS opens .geolibre first, GeoLibre opens .rgis later. Fixed in bd7c26d, which also changes "for the browser" to "for web-first work", since RustGIS runs in the browser too (the summary's nit).

Accuracy (confidence: low-medium). This states GeoLibre's current development focus ("centres on stability, performance and usability") and links #951 as the source. I could not check that discussion from here. If the claim comes from it, say so in the sentence. If not, soften it or drop it, since this page describes another project.

It does come from #951: giswqs, who maintains GeoLibre, said he expects its development to focus on "stability, performance, usability, and incremental improvements". The sentence now says it's his statement. Fixed in bd7c26d.

Quality (confidence: medium). The sibling bullets in this section that touch the data model or project format carry _Coordinate first._ (CONTRIBUTING.md › Pick freely or coordinate first lists project-format changes). This bullet has no marker, so a contributor cannot tell whether it is open to pick up. Suggest marking it _Coordinate first._ unless the maintainers have already agreed the approach in #962.
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
Leaving this unmarked. _Coordinate first_ flags work that needs a maintainer's agreement before code. This one already has it: giswqs asked for it in #951, and the design is in #962, which I've claimed. It adds a command but changes no existing command, no .rgis field and no dependency.
The PR is docs-only (four Markdown files). I read the full diff, the base-branch AGENTS.md, and the surrounding files. I checked the anchors and cross-references: #using-them-together resolves, the strikethrough convention matches existing lines, and no other doc links to the removed roadmap headings. No code or wasm concerns apply.
Bugs
Contradictory project-file direction (docs/comparison/geolibre.md:38, medium): the short answer says "the plan is for each to open the other's projects", but the later sections say only RustGIS opening .geolibre is planned, with GeoLibre opening .rgis "later". Suggestion posted.

Missing "Coordinate first" marker (ROADMAP.md:102, medium): the new .geolibre import bullet has no marker, unlike its neighbours, so contributors can't tell if it's open. Posted.
Unverified claim about GeoLibre (docs/comparison/geolibre.md:26, low-medium): the statement about GeoLibre's development focus cites RustGIS and GeoLibre: Which direction from here? #951, which I couldn't check. Posted.
Nit: geolibre.md:39 says "Choose GeoLibre for the browser", but RustGIS also runs in the browser (WebAssembly), as the same page says at lines 31 and 52. Consider "for a browser tab with nothing to install".

Quality (confidence: medium). "is not planned either" is a firmer decision than the rest of the PR, and #665 is still open. The PR description says the maintainer has only stopped listing QFieldCloud as planned and that the issue may want a comment or a close. Please confirm the maintainer agrees to "not planned" before this doc says it, or soften it to "not on the roadmap".
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
Plan stated on GeoLibre's behalf (confidence: medium). "GeoLibre to open .rgis projects later" commits another project's roadmap, and it is repeated here, in the FAQ and in ROADMAP. Confirm with the GeoLibre maintainers that they agreed to it before merging.
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
That order is GeoLibre's maintainer's own: in #951 giswqs, who maintains both projects, wrote: "I suggest working on RustGIS opening .geolibre projects first. Once RustGIS becomes relatively mature and supported data types are comprehensive, we then work on GeoLibre opening .rgis project."
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
Nit (confidence: high). This section repeats the short answer ("both read and write common open formats", the .geolibre/.rgis plan) and the FAQ "Can I open a GeoLibre project in RustGIS?" repeats the #962 link. Keep one statement of the plan and link to it from the others.
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
Keeping these on purpose. Readers land on this page at different sections (the short answer, "Using them together", the FAQ), so each one answers its own question in a line and links #962. No change.
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
Coordinate-first tag (confidence: medium). This new item adds a reader for another project's project format. CONTRIBUTING.md says a change that adds a dependency or changes the data model needs a proposal first, and the other bullets in this section carry _Coordinate first_ where that applies. Consider tagging it the same way, or say why it does not need it.

Answered in the earlier threads on this line: the maintainer already agreed to it in #951, and the design and its owner are in #962. It adds a command but changes no data model, no .rgis field and no dependency, so CONTRIBUTING's coordinate-first cases don't apply.

Reads as a decision on an open request (confidence: medium).#665 stays open, per the PR description, and maintainers have not replied to it. "is not on the roadmap either" in a reference file reads as closing the request. Suggest wording that states the current position and leaves #665 open for a maintainer's reply.

"Not on the roadmap" is the current position: in #951, giswqs agreed to drop mobile and field work, including QFieldCloud, from the roadmap. The line doesn't close #665, which stays open for whatever its thread decides.
This is a docs-only change (4 Markdown files). I found no bugs or security issues. The findings below are about wording and process. The first two need confirming before merge.
Bugs
None found. I checked the internal anchor #using-them-together, the #962 and #665 references, and the stats arithmetic (+85/−52 lines and the byte totals sum correctly).
Security
None. No code, inputs, or secrets are touched.
Performance
None. Docs only.
Quality
Duplicated plan statements (nit, high confidence): docs/comparison/geolibre.md states the .geolibre/.rgis plan in the short answer, "Using them together" and the FAQ, and the ROADMAP repeats it. Keep one statement and link to it. (geolibre.md:163)
Coordinate-first tag missing (medium): the new ROADMAP "Data at the source" item adds a reader for another project's format, but it has no _Coordinate first_ tag. CONTRIBUTING.md asks for a proposal first for dependency and data-model changes. (ROADMAP.md:102)
AGENTS.md
Docs-only, so cargo xtask ci has nothing to check. Nothing in xtask or the workflows validates these Markdown files.
The PR follows the roadmap-update rule: it updates GEOLIBRE_PARITY.md with the roadmap items.
The ROADMAP "Last reviewed: 2026-10-24" date is not bumped. The header says it is reviewed weekly, so bumping it is a reasonable nit, not a requirement.
Findings to confirm before merge
Attribution to a named person (medium): "as its maintainer put it in discussion RustGIS and GeoLibre: Which direction from here? #951, its development now centres on stability, performance and usability" is a paraphrase I could not verify offline. (docs/comparison/geolibre.md:26)
Plan on GeoLibre's behalf (medium): "GeoLibre to open .rgis projects later" commits another project's roadmap. Confirm with its maintainers. (docs/comparison/geolibre.md:39)
I did not find any tests that pin the changed text. The built-in assistant embeds geolibre.md via include_str!, so the new wording reaches the assistant's docs.

Review on opengeos#963: the AI segmentation item grouped eCognition import with
SAM and ONNX as "models". It now names the models and the OBIA workbench
separately. The comparison index says "almost every action" is a command,
since UI-only pane and dialog commands stay in the app.

Unverified attribution (confidence: medium). This sentence puts words in the maintainer's mouth ("its development now centres on stability, performance and usability") and links them to discussion #951. I could not check that discussion from the repository, so the paraphrase may not match. Please confirm it against #951, or quote the source directly. If it can't be checked, drop the attribution and state the position as RustGIS's own view.

Already checked in the earlier thread on this sentence, which quotes #951: giswqs expects GeoLibre's development "to focus more on stability, performance, usability, and incremental improvements". No change.
This PR changes only four Markdown files (GEOLIBRE_PARITY.md, ROADMAP.md, docs/comparison/geolibre.md, docs/comparison/index.md). There is no code, and no unwrap, unsafe, secret, or input-handling surface, so the review covers accuracy and consistency. The PR follows the AGENTS.md convention of striking through out-of-scope parity items with a reason. The #using-them-together anchor resolves to the existing heading, and no stale roadmap references to the removed items remain.

Unverified attribution, confidence medium.docs/comparison/geolibre.md:26-28 says the GeoLibre maintainer described its development as centring on "stability, performance and usability," linked to discussion RustGIS and GeoLibre: Which direction from here? #951. I could not check that discussion from the repository. Inline comment posted on line 28.
Contradiction outside the diff, confidence high.docs/comparison/geolibre.md:85-86 (unchanged) says "RustGIS opens neither" the QGIS nor the ArcGIS Pro project. That conflicts with docs/user-guide/workspace.md:57, docs/comparison/qgis.md:195 and ROADMAP.md:194, which say supported .qgs/.qgz projects open as maps. The PR's new ROADMAP wording ("the way supported QGIS projects open") makes the mismatch more visible. Suggest fixing that line in this PR or a follow-up.
Nit.ROADMAP.md:4 still reads "Last reviewed: 2026-10-24". This is a substantive roadmap edit, so the maintainer may want to update the date.
Strikethrough items keep the open [ ] checkbox, matching existing entries at GEOLIBRE_PARITY.md:106 and :252. Compliant.
Roadmap changes that drop Exploratory items are covered by the PR's discussion reference, as CONTRIBUTING.md requires for Exploratory-scoped changes. No separate issue is linked. The maintainer should confirm that agreement is recorded where CONTRIBUTING expects it.
No UI strings, assets, or code changed, so the i18n, asset, and wasm rules do not apply.
Not checked: the GeoLibre feature claims (SAM, ONNX, Sedona, PGlite, the 1,000+ tool count) and issue numbers #951, #962, #665. I had no network access, so these are unverified against the sources they describe.

Review on opengeos#963: "RustGIS opens neither" contradicted the user guide, the

Thanks for the out-of-diff catch in the latest review summary: "RustGIS opens neither" was wrong, since supported QGIS projects open as maps. The GeoLibre page now says so and links the user guide. Fixed in b8f6f70; docs build passes.
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
Accuracy (confidence: medium). "as its maintainer put it in discussion #951, its development now centres on stability, performance and usability" attributes a paraphrase to a named source, and the PR body credits #951 to giswqs's direction. Please check the discussion: if giswqs is not GeoLibre's maintainer, or the wording is a paraphrase rather than a statement, reword it (for example, "GeoLibre's recent focus is stability, performance and usability, per discussion #951") so the attribution is exact.
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
Roadmap convention (confidence: medium). This new bullet has no _(open)_ or _Coordinate first_ marker, but the Pick-freely rules in CONTRIBUTING.md depend on those markers. A contributor cannot tell whether they may open a PR for it directly. It also states a sequence (GeoLibre opens .rgis later) that concerns another project. Consider adding _Coordinate first._ and trimming the second sentence to what RustGIS controls.
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
Possible overstatement (confidence: low-medium). "RustGIS's layout is for desktop screens" sits uneasily with docs/installation.md (around line 173), which says the web app installs on phones and tablets. Consider "RustGIS's layout is built for desktop screens" or linking the installation note, so the two pages agree.
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
Nit (confidence: high): the complement framing is now stated in four places (here, index.md, ROADMAP.md intro, and the "Why are there two?" FAQ), and the "Neither is meant to replace the other" sentence in the short answer repeats it. One clear statement in the short answer, with the rest pointing to it, would read better.
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
Keeping this as is, as in the earlier repetition thread. Each place is a separate entry point (the comparison index, the roadmap, this page's summary and FAQ), so each states the relationship in a sentence.
This is a docs-only PR (4 Markdown files, no code), so the Bugs, Security and Performance categories have nothing to report. I checked the new anchors, the cross-file references, and the strikethrough style against existing lines, and all of them are consistent. I could not run zensical build or the link checker.
Bugs: None found. The new anchors resolve: #using-them-together (geolibre.md:158) and workspace.md#qgis-projects-and-styles.
Security: None found.
Performance: None applicable.
Quality
The complement framing is repeated in geolibre.md, index.md, the ROADMAP.md intro, and the FAQ. Trimming it to one clear statement would read better. (high confidence, inline)
A "Last reviewed" date of 2026-10-24 was left unchanged although ROADMAP content changed. This nit did not post inline because line 3 is outside the diff, so it is noted here. (high confidence)
AGENTS.md
The PR follows CONTRIBUTING.md: it updates GEOLIBRE_PARITY.md in the same change as the roadmap.
The new roadmap bullet has no (open) or Coordinate first marker, which the Pick-freely rules depend on. (medium confidence, inline)
"RustGIS's layout is for desktop screens" conflicts with docs/installation.md, which says the web app installs on phones and tablets. (low-medium confidence, inline)
Inline comments are posted on docs/comparison/geolibre.md:26, :38, ROADMAP.md:102 and GEOLIBRE_PARITY.md:261. One comment failed to post, and the nit above is the one that did not.

This new claim (RustGIS opens supported QGIS projects as maps) is correct and matches docs/user-guide/workspace.md › "QGIS projects and styles" and the PR's ROADMAP.md. But GEOLIBRE_PARITY.md line 224 in this same PR still says the QGIS import is "Missing (Exploratory)". That entry needs the same update, because it now contradicts this page. It is outside the diff hunks, so it can't be anchored inline. Suggested replacement for that entry:
- [ ] **Import QGIS (`.qgs/.qgz`) and ArcGIS Pro (`.aprx/.mapx`) projects**. Partial: QGIS
projects open as maps. Missing: ArcGIS Pro (_Exploratory_).
Docs-only PR (4 Markdown files). Checked the new cross-links and anchors, the claims against the code and docs they describe, and the AGENTS.md rules that apply to docs. Nothing in the code paths is affected.
Bugs

Security

Quality
Stale parity entry contradicts the PR (GEOLIBRE_PARITY.md, line 224, outside the diff so not anchored inline). "Import QGIS (.qgs/.qgz) and ArcGIS Pro projects" is still marked "Missing (Exploratory)". docs/user-guide/workspace.md documents QGIS import as shipped, and this PR's own docs/comparison/geolibre.md and ROADMAP.md say RustGIS opens supported QGIS projects. Only ArcGIS Pro is missing. Suggested fix is in the inline comment on docs/comparison/geolibre.md:87. Confidence: high (~0.9).
AGENTS.md
No violations found. The PR strikes out the removed parity items with reasons, as the file's convention requires, and the ROADMAP and parity updates are consistent with CONTRIBUTING.md.
Checked, no issue
Anchors #using-them-together (geolibre.md) and ../user-guide/workspace.md#qgis-projects-and-styles both resolve.
The "Touch and responsive layout" note matches the latest commit (3b25e5d).
Not verified offline: the quoted position from maintainer giswqs in discussion RustGIS and GeoLibre: Which direction from here? #951 ("development now centres on stability, performance and usability") and the claims about GeoLibre's features. These need checking against the discussion and GeoLibre's docs.

Verify before merge (confidence: medium). This sentence attributes a statement about GeoLibre's development direction ("centres on stability, performance and usability") to its maintainer, citing discussion #951. I could not open that discussion from the checkout, so I can't confirm the wording or the claim that GeoLibre "is mature" matches it. Since this is public comparison copy about a sibling project, please check the paraphrase against the discussion, and consider quoting it directly or linking the specific comment.
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
Low confidence, question for the maintainer. This new item adds an import path for a foreign project format, and it has no (open) or _Coordinate first._ marker. CONTRIBUTING.md says items marked (open) are self-contained, and that a change which adds a dependency or a crate, or otherwise changes the data model or command surface, needs a proposal first. If #962 is the agreed proposal, consider saying so here, for example with _Coordinate first._, so contributors know whether to pick it up freely.
I found no bugs, security issues or performance problems. The PR changes four Markdown files and no code. I checked the new links and anchors (workspace.md#qgis-projects-and-styles, #using-them-together, cli.md, python.md, mcp.md, i18n.md) and the project.importQgis command, and they all exist. The struck-through items in GEOLIBRE_PARITY.md follow the file's existing ~~…~~ convention and give a reason, as AGENTS.md asks.

Security: none found.
Performance: none found.

docs/comparison/geolibre.md:26: the claim that GeoLibre's direction "centres on stability, performance and usability" is attributed to its maintainer via discussion RustGIS and GeoLibre: Which direction from here? #951. I could not open that discussion from the checkout, so the paraphrase is unverified. Confidence: medium. Inline comment posted.
The docs/comparison/index.md table lists GeoLibre collaboration as "Real-time (MVP)", while geolibre.md says "real-time (experimental)". This predates the PR and is outside its changed lines, so I did not raise it.
AGENTS.md / CONTRIBUTING.md
ROADMAP.md:102: the new "Open GeoLibre .geolibre projects" item has no (open) or _Coordinate first._ marker. CONTRIBUTING.md says a new import path needs a proposal first, so it's worth confirming [Feature]: Open GeoLibre (.geolibre) projects as maps #962 is that proposal. Confidence: low. Inline comment posted.
Nit: the ROADMAP.md "Last reviewed" stamp (2026-10-24, v0.4.0) is unchanged even though the content changed. This may be intentional.
I could not verify the attribution claims about GeoLibre (SAM and ONNX "built in", the OBIA workbench) or whether issues #962 and #665 are as described. Those need a check against the live sources before merge.

Summary
"Using them together" and the FAQ say that RustGIS opening.geolibreprojects is planned, with GeoLibre opening.rgislater. "Why are there two?" uses giswqs's reason: to explore different approaches.docs/comparison/index.md. One sentence with the same framing in the GeoLibre summary.ROADMAP.md. The intro says the two complement each other and that GEOLIBRE_PARITY.md is a reference, not a plan. The four Exploratory items giswqs agreed to drop are gone: collaboration, mobile and field work, an SQL engine in the web app, and AI segmentation and detection. Opening.geolibreprojects is added under Data at the source, linking [Feature]: Open GeoLibre (.geolibre) projects as maps #962.GEOLIBRE_PARITY.md. A note says the list is a reference and names what is left to GeoLibre. The matching items are struck through with that reason, as the file already does for out-of-scope items: AI segmentation, real-time collaboration, review comments, share links, the Android and iOS apps, the touch layout, field data collection, GPS, and the web app's SQL engine note.On the parity file:
