Makes a reader-release wait on macOS respond to cancellation and its deadline, so a caller refused by a reader-held store gets control back instead of waiting indefinitely. Includes the macOS reader-hold separation it builds on. Draft: opened to run hosted CI on this exact commit; it lands with the engine closeout, not ahead of it.
