Remember a newly typed S3 access-key pair only on request, bind its envelope to the canonical endpoint, expose Saved keys and Forget Saved Keys, and keep temporary credentials session-only. Store failures retain the usable session and show an honest warning; deletion failures prevent endpoint edits/removal.
Carry nonsecret exact-login provenance through vector, raster, COG and PMTiles requests. Clear imported runtime bindings before hydration, automatically resolve a unique saved connection, and keep ambiguous resources unread until the user chooses. Retain styles/order and retry only the selected resource group.
Add translated opt-in/status/forget/warning/chooser UI, preserve DB login/refusal/forget behavior, and protect history, preferences, notices, assistant approvals and signed failure diagnostics.
Review-driven fixes reject foreign-session and stale-token login reuse, preserve ordinary unmapped session behavior, enforce case-sensitive bucket authorization, require the envelope endpoint field even for AWS null, and retain long provenance addresses without relaxing destination limits.
Dependency and ownership
#767 is merged at 4e46cededab522a5fe8bc45562c02c35cf6671fc. #777 is merged at 42859ba; this branch has been rebased onto updated main, including its final database refusal/rollback and scoped-resolution fixes. The DB implementation is now in the base rather than duplicated from the earlier integration snapshot.
DB and S3 share the store hook, account helper, credential deletion and validate/delete/commit lifecycle. The live DB checkout was not modified by this integration. Database acceptance coverage is retained.
Testing
cargo xtask ci passes: formatting, workspace clippy with -D warnings, full workspace tests (including hostile command parameters), and layering. After integrating test: fix main CI on macOS and Windows (thin-font halo test, sign-in cancel race) #820 at e735290, the engine suite reports 373 passed / 3 existing ignored; all 168 renderer tests and all 81 UI smoke tests pass.
cargo build --locked --target wasm32-unknown-unknown -p rustgis-web passes, using the existing LLVM clang/ar setup for Zstandard.
Focused saved-S3 and remembered-database engine tests, S3 UI unit tests, and both S3/DB widget smoke suites pass. Coverage includes refused store operations, ownership/refusal rollback, restart reuse, scoped signing, source reopening, chooser cancellation/staleness, secret-free exports, frame/list store-operation counts, and long-address preference round trips.
Throwaway real-network engine smoke (removed after verification): remember keys, create a fresh Session with the same definitions/store, log in without typing, browse and add an FGB, and observe the actual feature n=1. Reopening with two candidates makes zero requests before selection; choosing the second sends only its key ID. Preferences/projects contain no key material.
Six headless UI screenshots rendered and visually inspected: unchecked default opt-in, saved form with Forget, saved row, nonfatal persistence warning with Close, unselected chooser with Open disabled, and absent-store disabled opt-in. The memory-store screenshot variant was removed; ordinary ui_shot remains unchanged.
The mixed legacy/AWS regression covers the same bucket and object in both layer orders, including saving/reopening while selection is pending. It failed before correction and passes now. All 18 saved-S3 and 20 remembered-database engine regressions pass. A removed throwaway runtime smoke reopened that pending project, loaded one actual FGB feature through the selected custom signer, and left the explicit AWS source unchanged and awaiting its own choice. The reserved legacy marker cannot install credentials or fetch data.
Runtime and visual proof used macOS with in-memory/failing test stores. No real OS credential store was mutated by this feature verification; Linux/Windows backends and an actual browser runtime were not exercised locally. ci:full is requested for platform coverage.
Save S3 keys in the desktop credential store and reuse them across sessions. Temporary credentials remain session-only, and saved keys can be forgotten.
Reconnect project S3 sources through a matching saved connection or choose one when multiple connections are available.
Browse buckets and objects through saved connections with connection-specific access.
Raster downloads run asynchronously, with loading status and visible error details.
Bug Fixes
Improved handling of S3-backed project sources, imports, and tile addresses; sensitive credentials are redacted from errors and credential-related output.
Forgetting saved credentials, removing connections, or changing endpoints or credential sources now clears stored keys.
Forget-password actions require fresh approval, including when called by scripts.
Documentation
Updated guidance on saved S3 keys, reconnection, and credential handling.

This change adds opt-in, endpoint-bound storage for S3 keys and session-specific request signing. It adds connection-bound S3 addresses and project source matching, selection, and reopening. The UI, cache, raster loading, credential redaction, approval rules, tests, and documentation also change.
Changes: Saved S3 credentials and source resolution
Adds parsing and validation for connection-bound S3 addresses. Source validation, host lookup, remote-source checks, and credential redaction handle wrapped addresses and tile-template archives.
Saved-key storage and connection lifecycle crates/engine/src/s3_keys.rs, crates/engine/src/connections.rs, crates/engine/src/lib.rs, crates/engine/src/cmd/connections.rs
Adds endpoint-bound S3 credential storage and session state. Login, connection edits, removal, and forgetting manage saved-key status and stored values.
Bound requests and browsing crates/tiles/src/s3.rs, crates/engine/src/cmd/{s3,connection_browse}.rs, crates/ui-egui/src/s3ui.rs
The S3 registry tracks saved-login bindings and signs bound requests with matching credentials. Engine and UI browsing bind requests and object addresses to the selected connection.
Project source matching and reopening crates/engine/src/{s3_connections,project}.rs, crates/engine/src/cmd/{items,layer,project}.rs, crates/map/src/{lib,raster,source}.rs, crates/tiles/src/{cache,cog,pmtiles}.rs, crates/engine/src/s3_saved_tests.rs
Project sources are matched to saved connections by endpoint and bucket. Unique matches are bound and reopened; ambiguous or unavailable matches remain pending. Imports clear stored bindings, and cache and raster code supports retries.
Adds controls to remember and forget S3 keys, display saved-key status, and choose connections for pending sources. Tests and documentation cover storage, login, approval, and source selection. Other changes update password-slot handling and adjust tests.

Saved S3 logins have several edge-case defects. Renaming a saved login fails when 32 connections are live. A saved login without keys can read anonymously instead of being rejected. Requests to FIPS or dualstack AWS endpoints can be signed with the wrong region and fail. A new UI unit test may also fail. These affect narrow cases, but they should be fixed or accepted before merge.

I read about 1,300 of the diff's lines (pr-context/diff.patch). That covers the assistant and data-layer changes, s3_address, the DuckDB password cache, the driver redaction, the browse, login and connection_use code, and the start of connections.rs. This PR changes 54 files, and I did not read the rest: the UI crates, tiles/s3.rs, the engine tests, s3_keys.rs, s3_connections.rs and the docs. The findings below cover only what I read, and I ran no tests.
Bugs
None found in the code I read. Details:
s3_address::parse slices with get(..), so a bad length gives an error instead of a panic.
The address length and the endpoint length are both capped.
try_connection_password restores the previous password only on DataError::Login, and it does not hold the lock during network I/O.
Security
No leaks found in the code I read. Details:
Redaction of the password now covers the Postgres, MySQL and SQL Server error paths.
accessKeyId and access_key_id are now treated as secret names, and the tests cover that.
The assistant gates forgetSavedKeys, resolveS3 and login with remember behind user approval, including when called from scripts.
Minor (low confidence): DataError::redact_secret replaces the password as a plain substring. A very short password such as a would garble every error message, though nothing leaks (inline comment on crates/data/src/lib.rs:111).
Performance
No concerns. redact_secret allocates only when the message contains the secret, and s3_address::parse borrows without allocating.
Quality
This PR touches many layers at once (data, tiles, engine, UI). Several new files are very large; s3_saved_tests.rs alone is about 62 KB. That makes it hard to review in one pass. Splitting it into smaller PRs would have helped (low confidence, a process point).
duckdb::set_connection_password(dsn, id, None) removes a password activated by any saved connection, not only id. The doc comment says so ("whichever one"), and a test covers it. The name and the id parameter suggest otherwise, so it could surprise a future caller (low confidence).
AGENTS.md
In the code I read, I saw no unwrap, expect or panic outside tests. Test modules carry #[allow(clippy::unwrap_used)] and some use panic! in let-else, which is acceptable in test code.
The code I read keeps the wasm split with cfg(target_arch = "wasm32").
I did not check the tl! wrapping of interface text in the UI files.
I did not check whether THIRD-PARTY-LICENSES.txt was refreshed, or whether any new dependency has an allowed licence. I saw no Cargo.toml change in the part I read.

Follow-up commit 49df43e tightens the bound-request registry critical section: it snapshots only the selected login and this request’s explicit-grant boolean. URL parsing, origin/bucket validation, URL construction and signing run outside the lock; the grant list is not copied. The threading contract is documented in docs/architecture.md. Verification: all 9 S3 tile tests and 17 saved-S3 engine tests pass; an actual CLI request against a temporary localhost endpoint returned the expected bound listing with the selected signer and credential-free results. The full cargo xtask ci gate and locked wasm32 rustgis-web build also pass after this refinement.
This PR is very large (55 files, about 6.9k lines added). I read the diff headers, the new s3_address.rs, the s3_keys.rs envelope, the DataError::redact_secret helper and the DuckDB password cache. I did not read the rest line by line, which includes the UI, the command layer and the engine tests. I found no definite bugs in what I read. I left one low-confidence inline comment.
Bugs
Low confidence:try_connection_password (crates/data/src/source/duckdb.rs:180) puts the new password in the shared per-address slot before it is validated. On a Login failure it puts the old entry back unconditionally. A concurrent remember_password, set_connection_password or forget_connection_password for the same address during that window would be overwritten. A forgotten password could come back. Restoring only if the slot still holds this call's entry would close it. This is the inline comment.
Security
No problems found in the new code I read.
The saved S3 keys are stored with their canonical endpoint, so they can't be sent to another host.
Decoding failures return fixed sentences rather than quoting the stored value.
Temporary credentials (with a session token) are never stored.
The rustgis-s3: address parser rejects control characters, nested wrappers, bad bindings and endpoint lengths that fall inside a multi-byte character, and it never echoes the input.
redact_secret keeps the error kind and removes the password from messages, including I/O errors whose text a driver or server supplied.
access_key_id and accesskeyid were added to the list of secret query and key names, with tests.
Moderate confidence (verify): decoded S3 keys end up in plain Strings in s3_keys::decode, so they are not zeroized after use. The Secret wrapper covers the stored form only. This is a hardening point, not a bug.
Performance
None found.s3_address::parse borrows and doesn't allocate, and redact_secret copies nothing when the secret isn't present.
Moderate confidence (verify): I did not check whether the two redaction paths (redact_secret for databases and secret_key_lower for S3 query strings) stay in sync as new drivers are added.
AGENTS.md
No unwrap, expect, panic or unreachable in non-test code in the diff. Every hit is inside test code, and clippy.toml allows panic in tests.
Layering and wasm:s3_address is in rustgis-data (L1) and has no UI or std::time dependencies. I did not check wasm builds or the layering checker.
i18n and ATTRIBUTION.md: I did not check that the new UI strings use tl! or that the new asset files have rows in ATTRIBUTION.md.
Dependencies: I did not check whether new dependencies need cargo xtask notices or cargo deny updates.

…ycle
Integrate the immutable database-connection snapshot from PR opengeos#777 while preserving its independent checkout and ownership. Reuse the shared secret store, account identity, remember validation and failure-safe lifecycle. Bind S3 project sources to exact saved logins, resolve ambiguous resources explicitly, and expose opt-in, status and forgetting in the UI.
Rebased onto main 42859ba after #777 merged and published with an explicit force-with-lease. Current head: b308527. Preserved final DB scoped-resolution/refusal/rollback behavior and shared DB/S3 credential infrastructure. Fixed mixed legacy/explicit-AWS source isolation, including identical object URLs in both layer orders and saving/reopening with a pending choice. Removed unused helpers and redundant direct UI coverage; retained all widget acceptance tests. This corrective commit is +124/-178, including the new regression. Final local verification: 18 saved-S3 and 20 remembered-DB regressions, cargo xtask ci (358 engine tests passed, 3 ignored; all 81 UI smoke tests passed), and locked wasm build. Actual network smoke loaded one FGB feature after pending save/reopen while leaving the AWS source unchanged and pending. Temporary smoke source removed. PR dependency/testing text updated; GitHub reports MERGEABLE. Platform runtime limits remain as documented.
This PR is very large (45 files, about +4.3k lines), and I did not read all of it. I read the full diff through s3_keys.rs and the start of the engine tests (diff lines 1–2200), plus crates/tiles/src/s3.rs. I did not read the second half of the engine tests or the map, tiles/cache, tiles/cog, tiles/pmtiles, ui-egui and docs diffs. The design is careful: keys are bound to the canonical endpoint, errors use fixed text, imported bindings are cleared, and tokens are per session. I found no crash-class violations in the code I read (no unwrap, panic or indexing in non-test code). The s3_address parser uses get() and is bounded.
Bugs
remove calls delete_account for every S3 connection, so a failing or locked store blocks removing one that never saved keys. Without a store, a connection with saved_keys set can't be removed, for example after its preferences were synced from another machine. Confidence: medium. Inline comment on cmd/connections.rs.
resolve_project_s3 runs again on every add_layer_text and import_maps. A still-pending group is re-settled each time, which repeats the notice and the login or store attempt (an unlock prompt). Confidence: medium-low. Inline comment on s3_connections.rs.
Security
When one saved connection matches, opening a project logs in and grants the bucket automatically, using saved keys or a profile. The bucket name comes from the untrusted project, and a connection with no buckets scope matches any bucket. A shared project could therefore get requests signed with the user's keys against an attacker-chosen bucket on the same endpoint. Auto-resolution is safer if limited to connections that list the bucket explicitly. Confidence: medium-low. Inline comment on s3_connections.rs.
Positives: the stored envelope requires the endpoint field and deny_unknown_fields, temporary credentials are never persisted, and accessKeyId / access_key_id / secretAccessKey / sessionToken are now treated as secret query and audit keys.
Performance
Nothing significant found. parse borrows and doesn't allocate, and the registry lock is held briefly.
Nit: blank lines were dropped between items in cmd/connections.rs and connections.rs (see the inline comment).
Nit: in cmd/s3.rs::list, the address closure silently falls back to the unbound s3:// URL if through fails. The object is then listed with an address that won't be signed. Consider surfacing the error.
AGENTS.md
The hostile_params_never_panic and gate-rule tests were extended for the new commands, and NEVER covers them for plugins. That is good.
New UI strings: I did not verify that all of them are wrapped in tl!, because I didn't read the ui-egui diff.
I did not check whether a new dependency or THIRD-PARTY-LICENSES refresh is needed. I didn't see dependency changes in the files I read.

Reject a ticked "Remember on this computer" when no database password is typed.
For database kinds, wants_login is true only when typed_secrets(st) is true. If the password is empty, save saves only the definition. clear_secrets then clears remember, and the user's opt-in is dropped with no message. The S3 branch reports an error in the same case. Add the same kind of check for DATABASE_KINDS.

This is a partial review. The PR changes 45 files. I read the first ~1,100 lines of the diff, plus crates/engine/src/s3_keys.rs. I did not read most of crates/tiles/src/s3.rs, the UI files, s3_saved_tests.rs or the docs. I did not build the code or run any tests.
Bugs
Stale saved keys after a credentials-mode change (low–medium confidence). In edit, saved keys are deleted only when the endpoint changes. If an edit moves options.credentials away from keys, the stored pair stays in the credential store and saved_keys stays true. Inline comment posted on crates/engine/src/cmd/connections.rs:210.
Security
Nothing found in the parts I read.
s3_keys.rs ties the stored keys to the canonical endpoint, rejects unknown fields, caps the stored size, and uses fixed error strings that never include the input.
s3_address::parse returns fixed errors, bounds its lengths, and slices with get, so it cannot panic.
Bindings read from layer files and imported maps are cleared (clear_bindings).
The new commands are in the plugin NEVER list and are gated for the assistant.
Performance
Nothing notable in what I read.
Quality
Mixed || and && without parentheses in credentials_changed (crates/engine/src/cmd/connections.rs:210). Low confidence, a readability nit. Inline comment posted.
The blank line before fn forget_password was dropped (crates/engine/src/cmd/connections.rs:313). Nit. Inline comment posted.
AGENTS.md
No violations found in the parts I read: no unwrap, expect or panic in non-test code, and tests are added for the new commands and the address parser.
I did not check the tl! wrapping in the UI files, the ATTRIBUTION.md rows, or the wasm build.

- Merge main's assistant-key migration documentation and preserve S3 snapshot guarantees.
- Require a choice before unscoped saved connections can read a project's bucket; retain unchanged pending choices.
- Bound saved-archive templates, report dropped listing entries and preserve custom-endpoint bucket case.
- Wake the renderer after raster downloads and preserve newer passwords or Forget during refused logins.
- Validate Remember for empty database passwords and clean up saved S3 keys when credential modes change.
- Allow unmarked S3 definitions to be removed without accessing the credential store; cover corrected behavior with regressions.

Nit: this plain // comment sits between the doc comment and fn redact_secret, and the function isn't changed here. It reads as an unrelated drive-by. Fold it into the /// doc, or drop it.
Scope: I read the first ~600 lines of the 46-file diff: the s3_address parser, the credential redaction, the DuckDB password restore, connection_browse, and the start of connections.rs. I did not read the rest, including the large files s3_saved_tests.rs, tiles/src/s3.rs, connectionui.rs, s3_connections.rs and s3_keys.rs. Nothing below covers them.
Bugs
No defects found in the code I read.
parse in s3_address.rs uses get() rather than indexing, so a length that cuts a multi-byte character returns an error instead of panicking. It also bounds length and endpoint size and rejects control characters and nested wrappers. Its errors are fixed strings that don't echo the input.
The DuckDB refused-password restore now only rolls back if the slot still holds this attempt's id and password, so it no longer overwrites a newer login or a Forget. The new test covers both cases. (high confidence)
connection_browse::objects marks the listing truncated when a bound address can't be built, so files are never silently lost. (medium confidence)
Security
No issues in what I read. The redaction list now includes accessKeyId, access_key_id, secretAccessKey and sessionToken, with tests. Wrapper addresses carry only a runtime binding, never a key. (medium confidence)
Performance
None found.
Quality
Nit, posted inline: a stray // comment in crates/data/src/lib.rs sits between the doc comment and redact_secret, and that function isn't changed here. (high confidence)
edit() in connections.rs is now a multi-step sequence: prepare_update, then delete_account, then commit_update. If delete_account fails, the connection is unchanged because ? returns before the commit. That ordering looks right, but I'd want to see a test for the failure path. (low confidence)
AGENTS.md
No panics, unwrap or unsafe in non-test code that I read. The test modules rely on allow-unwrap-in-tests in clippy.toml, which is set.
The PR adds a new connection.forgetSavedKeys and connection.resolveS3 command pair. I did not check that hostile_params_never_panic covers them, or that the UI strings use tl!.
The gate-rules test requires approval for the new commands, which matches the repo's approval policy for file, network and plugin commands.
I did not run cargo xtask ci.

Nit: this doc line is added without any code change in redact_secret, and it is unrelated to the S3 work. Consider dropping it from this PR or moving it to the change that needs it.
This is a large PR (46 files) that adds saved S3 connections. I read the diff in full for s3_address.rs, s3_connections.rs, s3_keys.rs, tiles/s3.rs, the S3 and connection commands, the duckdb change and the credential redaction. I only skimmed the UI code, the docs and the large s3_saved_tests.rs. I did not build or run anything.
The design holds up. Addresses are parsed without panics, a saved login signs only the addresses that name its binding, and keys are stored with their endpoint. I found no unwraps or panics in non-test code.
Bugs
Stale saved_keys flag can leave keys in the credential store (crates/engine/src/cmd/connections.rs:286, medium confidence). For S3, delete_account returns Ok(()) without touching the store when c.saved_keys is false. That flag is only the state when the store was last asked. So connection.forgetSavedKeys, connection.remove and an endpoint change in edit can report success while the secret stays behind. A later connection that reuses the id and endpoint could pick it up. I suggest always attempting the delete when a store exists.
Security
No concrete issue found. I checked these areas:
Origin and authority matching in bound_target, including rejecting @ in the authority and comparing the exact origin.
Per-binding bucket grants.
Refusing to sign a malformed or nested wrapper address.
Restricting implicit signing to connections that are not saved logins.
The rustgis-anonymous: prefix combined with a wrapper address.
Fixed error strings that never echo input.
Endpoint binding of the stored secret.
Redaction of the new key-id names.
Performance
Nothing notable. The registry lock is held only briefly, and parsing and signing run outside it.
Quality
Unrelated doc line (crates/data/src/lib.rs:80, high confidence, nit). The new comment on redact_secret has no matching code change.
s3_saved_tests.rs is about 67 KB in one file. Splitting it by topic would make it easier to maintain (low confidence, optional).
AGENTS.md
No violations found in the code I read.
New dependencies: none visible.
Interface strings: this review didn't check whether the new UI literals are wrapped in tl!.
Please run cargo xtask ci before merging, as AGENTS.md requires.

Compared: the whole PR against main (merge base 24eba9b to PR head 63784a6)
Integrated giswqs commits a789b32 and 63784a6, then merged current main (9df790c) and resolved the S3/connection UI conflicts while retaining upstream accessibility labels and credential-source opt-in reset behavior. Published as 147ffbe without rewriting collaborator commits.
Fixed the substantive remaining deletion finding (discussion_r4367116501 / discussion_r4367168933): savedKeys is metadata, not proof the account is absent. Forget, Remove and endpoint/credential-mode changes now attempt deletion whenever a store exists, even with savedKeys:false. Refusal preserves the definition, generation and live login. This necessarily replaces the unmarked-removal shortcut; otherwise those commands can leave reusable credentials behind. The stale-marker regression failed before the helper fix and passes afterward. Runtime smoke confirmed all three commands remove the stored account, while Forget retains working session signing.
The persisted-binding finding is already addressed by giswqs in 63784a6; no random-token redesign added. Left wording/style-only findings unchanged.
Verification on Rust 1.99.1: 21 saved-S3 tests; 373 engine tests passed (3 ignored); all 81 UI smoke tests; formatting; workspace clippy -D warnings; layering; locked wasm build. Rendered and visually inspected both dialogs after credential-source switching. Removed the temporary runtime smoke example.
Update at e735290: integrated PR #820 (head 1aa6eae), including the thin-font renderer test fix, both-glyph coverage, and the sign-in cancellation-test race fix. The previously failing renderer test passes, and the full cargo xtask ci gate now passes on Rust 1.99.1: formatting, workspace clippy -D warnings, workspace tests (including all 168 renderer tests, 373 engine tests and 81 UI smoke tests), and layering.
Also fixed the single-unscoped-candidate notice in e735290: it names the connection and asks for explicit confirmation, while the multiple-candidate notice is unchanged. A runtime smoke exercised both notices and confirmed that the sources remain blocked until selection. PR #820 remains independently owned; its commits are now integrated into this branch. Remote CI will verify the published head.
I read the first ~1,100 lines of the 46-file diff in detail: s3_address.rs, the credential redaction, duckdb.rs, connections.rs, connection_browse.rs, the s3.rs command changes, and the load, import and reset hooks. I did not read the rest, including tiles/src/s3.rs, s3_saved_tests.rs, s3_connections.rs, s3_keys.rs and the UI files. This review says nothing about those. I did not build or run anything. I found no confirmed bugs. Inline comments could not be posted (the line anchor failed to resolve), so the one point worth noting is listed here.
Bugs
crates/data/src/source/duckdb.rs (try_connection_password, new "still my attempt?" check): the check compares only connection_id and the password. It can't tell this attempt's slot from a later one with an identical id and password. Example: Forget, then a fresh login with the same password, and then this refused attempt restoring previous over it. The window is tiny and the effect is limited to one stale remembered password. A generation counter on the slot would make it exact. Confidence: low (~25%).
Security
No issues found in the reviewed part. The new rustgis-s3: wrapper parser (s3_address.rs) is strict and bounded:
It enforces length limits, a lowercase-hex binding, a digit-only endpoint length, control-character rejection and no nested wrappers.
It uses get() slicing, so a length that cuts a multi-byte character is an error, not a panic.
Its errors are fixed strings that never echo the input.
Bindings coming from layer, map or project files are cleared on add_layer_text and import_maps, so a file can't claim a login.
The new commands connection.forgetSavedKeys and connection.resolveS3 are in the plugin NEVER list and in the assistant gate tests.
Redaction of accessKeyId and access_key_id is added with tests.
Performance
No concerns. parse borrows and doesn't allocate, and forget_file is a single retain.
Quality
crates/data/src/lib.rs: the new redact_secret doc lines about one-character passwords are unrelated to this feature. They are harmless but look like leftovers from a merge. Confidence: low.
crates/engine/src/cmd/connections.rs: login has grown long, with nested key-mode matching. Consider moving the key-mode branch into s3_keys.rs or a helper. This is a style point only.
The tests that were visible are good: a round trip, a malformed-input table, and a regression for the refused-password race.
AGENTS.md
The reviewed Rust code uses no unwrap, expect or panic outside tests, and the test modules carry #[allow(clippy::unwrap_used)]. It stays wasm-safe: the changes are I/O-free.
I did not check whether the new UI strings are wrapped in tl!, or the THIRD-PARTY-LICENSES and ATTRIBUTION.md rows. Run cargo xtask ci to confirm.

The cancelling thread could run after the 150 ms work had finished on a

Opening a project logs in on its own (confidence: medium-low). With exactly one saved connection that lists the bucket, bind_group runs login_saved, which reads the OS credential store (and can show an unlock prompt) as soon as a project or map is opened or imported. The project file only chooses the bucket name, so the keys go to the user's own endpoint. Even so, a hostile project can trigger an unlock prompt and signed requests with no user action, and ensure_login calls this "a user action".
Consider requiring the same explicit choice here as in the multi-candidate case, or at least never reading the store for imported maps and layers.
Also, bind_group returns Ok((opened, failed)) and the Ok(_) => None arm drops failed, so a login that works but whose sources fail to open produces no notice.
I read the first ~1,800 lines of the diff, covering s3_address.rs, s3_keys.rs, s3_connections.rs, the connections.rs and cmd/* changes, the project save/load path and the data-layer edits. I did not read the UI (ui-egui), crates/tiles/src/s3.rs, s3_saved_tests.rs or the docs, so those are unreviewed. I did not run any tests.
The design is careful. Saved keys are stored in a JSON envelope bound to the canonical endpoint, with deny_unknown_fields, a size cap and fixed error strings. Imported bindings are cleared on project, map and layer import. The address parser uses get() rather than indexing and bounds its lengths. Plugins are blocked from the new commands, and the assistant gate has tests for them.
Bugs
Stale binding after a connection edit (low-medium): edit disconnects the live S3 login on a rename, address or option change but leaves s3_bindings untouched, while remove clears it. See the inline comment on cmd/connections.rs.
Silent partial failure (medium-low): in settle, the single-candidate arm drops the (opened, failed) counts from bind_group (Ok(_) => None). A successful login whose sources then fail to open produces no notice.
Security
Credential-store read on project open (medium-low): when exactly one saved connection lists the bucket, opening or importing a project reads the OS credential store and makes signed requests with no user choice. That can mean an unlock prompt. The keys only go to the user's own endpoint, so impact is limited, but the multi-candidate case requires an explicit choice and this one does not. See the inline comment on s3_connections.rs.
No secret leaks found in the parts I read. The envelope and s3_address errors are fixed strings.
Performance
Nothing significant. resolve_project_s3 is O(addresses × groups × connections) and only runs on open or import, and the extra parse in is_remote_name is cheap.
Quality
Unrelated doc edit (high): the new redact_secret doc lines in crates/data/src/lib.rs have nothing to do with S3. See the inline comment.
connection.test on a keys-mode connection with no login now reads the credential store and fails with "No saved S3 keys". Before, it skipped the login. This is probably intended, but it is a behaviour change worth calling out in the docs (low).
s3_connections.rs and connections.rs are dense, and a lot of behaviour sits in comments. The 69 KB s3_saved_tests.rs is large to review in one pass.
AGENTS.md
No unwrap, expect or panic in the non-test code I read. Test modules use #[allow(clippy::unwrap_used)].
The new commands are registered as CommandSpecs and added to the plugin NEVER list.
I could not confirm that hostile_params_never_panic covers connection.forgetSavedKeys and connection.resolveS3. Please check.
The new tl! UI strings were not reviewed.
No new dependencies in the part I read.

delete_account now runs for every S3 connection in remove (and in edit when the credential mode or endpoint changes). If has_store() is false, for example on wasm or with no keyring, and saved_keys is true, it returns NOT_FORGOTTEN. The user then can't remove or re-point that connection at all. That fits the "never leave orphaned secrets" intent, but nothing offers a way out. A project can mark saved_keys true without the store being reachable. Consider letting remove proceed with a warning when the store is absent, or documenting how to recover. Confidence: medium-low.
I read the first ~1,100 lines of the 48-file diff, covering the data, assistant and engine/cmd/connections* changes. I did not review the rest of the diff, including the bulk of the new code: tiles/src/s3.rs, s3_saved_tests.rs, s3_connections.rs, s3_keys.rs and the UI files. Findings below only cover what I read.
Bugs
Medium-low:delete_account now runs for every S3 connection in remove, and in edit when the endpoint or credential mode changes. When no credential store is available (wasm, or no keyring) and saved_keys is true, it returns NOT_FORGOTTEN. The connection can then be neither removed nor re-pointed. I posted an inline comment on this at crates/engine/src/cmd/connections.rs:671.
Security
Nothing found in the code I read. The changes look careful:
s3_address::parse is bounded, rejects control characters and nested wrappers, and returns fixed error strings that never echo the input.
clear_bindings drops bindings found in imported files and layer files.
Saved-S3 commands are added to the plugin NEVER list and to the assistant's approval gate, with tests.
The refused-password rollback in duckdb.rs no longer overwrites a newer login or Forget.
The secret-name list now includes accessKeyId.
Performance
Nothing found.
Quality
Low:login() is long and now handles database logins, saved S3 keys, typed keys, temporary tokens and bindings in one function. Splitting out the S3 branch would make it easier to follow.
Low:s3_login and ensure_login can prompt the OS credential store during a browse. This is documented in the comments.
AGENTS.md
The code I read follows the repo's panic-free rules (no unwrap or expect outside tests). It uses get() for slicing and bounds all sizes. The hostile-params test was not part of what I read.
I could not check whether the new connection.* commands are covered by hostile_params_never_panic, or whether cargo xtask ci passes.

Reject keyless bound requests instead of returning unsigned output.
If a saved Connection has credentials: None, this branch returns an unsigned Prepared value for a bound address. The wrapper can then be fetched anonymously instead of enforcing the selected saved login. Reject the bound request, or reject keyless input in connect_saved.

After integrating test: fix main CI on macOS and Windows (thin-font halo test, sign-in cancel race) #820 at e735290, the engine suite reports 373 passed / 3 existing ignored; all 168 renderer tests and all 81 UI smoke tests pass.cargo build --locked --target wasm32-unknown-unknown -p rustgis-webpasses, using the existing LLVM clang/ar setup for Zstandard.Focused saved-S3 and remembered-database engine tests, S3 UI unit tests, and both S3/DB widget smoke suites pass. Coverage includes refused store operations, ownership/refusal rollback, restart reuse, scoped signing, source reopening, chooser cancellation/staleness, secret-free exports, frame/list store-operation counts, and long-address preference round trips.
Throwaway real-network engine smoke (removed after verification): remember keys, create a fresh Session with the same definitions/store, log in without typing, browse and add an FGB, and observe the actual feature
n=1. Reopening with two candidates makes zero requests before selection; choosing the second sends only its key ID. Preferences/projects contain no key material.Six headless UI screenshots rendered and visually inspected: unchecked default opt-in, saved form with Forget, saved row, nonfatal persistence warning with Close, unselected chooser with Open disabled, and absent-store disabled opt-in. The memory-store screenshot variant was removed; ordinary
ui_shotremains unchanged.
