fix(map): QGIS import follow-ups: TRUE/FALSE and exponents in filters, label fonts, unread source options - #844
Follow-up to #825 (QGIS import) and #824 (label fonts). These fix the review findings that came in on their last heads, after the PRs had already been merged.
TRUE and FALSE in filters: they now convert to bare true/false. Before, flag = TRUE became "flag" = "true", which RustGIS SQL rejects, so the filter was dropped and every row stayed visible.
Numbers with an exponent: written out as plain decimals (2.5E-4 → 0.00025, 1e3 → 1000). The data-query lexer doesn't read exponents, so such filters used to be skipped. Only the importer writes them, so the query grammar is unchanged.
Switched-off label rules (active="0"): skipped before their filter is converted, so they no longer get a "left out" note. An else rule also leaves them out of the siblings it negates, as QGIS does. Before, a switched-off sibling whose filter couldn't be converted dropped the whole else rule.
Source options RustGIS doesn't read (|layerid=2, |geometrytype=Point): noted for the layer, because a multi-layer file opens its first layer. Not noted when they make no difference: layerid=0, or a layerid given alongside a layername.
Graduated renderers: the import report says that values below the first range or above the last are drawn in the first or last class, where QGIS leaves them out. RustGIS's own graduated renderer is unchanged, since every map uses it.
Label fonts (crates/render/src/families.rs)
Unreadable OS/2 table: a face whose OS/2 table is cut short or points past the end of the file is now kept at the defaults (weight 400, upright) instead of being dropped, as long as its name table reads.
Tests: new cases in expr.rs (exponents, TRUE/FALSE) and source.rs (unread options), and in the project test (switched-off rule, graduated note, the label's font).
Summary by CodeRabbit
Improvements
QGIS imports now report ignored file options and clarify how files with multiple layers are handled.
Imported labels respect active rules and font families. Boolean values and numbers in exponent notation are interpreted more consistently.
QGIS imports note that values outside graduated ranges may use the first or last class in RustGIS, unlike in QGIS.
Font files with incomplete metadata can now be used with default font settings.
Documentation
Updated QGIS import notes to clarify approximations, including dashed lines and unsupported file options.
The QGIS importer now retains and reports selected datasource options, converts additional expression tokens, skips inactive label rules, and imports label fonts. It also reports graduated-renderer range behavior. Font parsing uses defaults when an OS/2 table cannot be read.

Summary
Retain and report datasource options crates/map/src/qgis/source.rs, crates/engine/src/cmd/qgis.rs, crates/map/src/qgis/tests.rs
File datasource parsing retains selected unread options, with limits on option count and length and masking for some option values. The importer reports retained options. Tests cover option handling and file-source values.
Finite exponent-form numbers are emitted in decimal form. Bare TRUE and FALSE tokens are converted to lowercase values. Tests cover these conversions.
Handle label rules and fonts crates/map/src/qgis/labels.rs, crates/render/src/families.rs, crates/map/src/qgis/tests.rs
Inactive rules are skipped and excluded from else-rule filters. Parsed font families are assigned to label classes. Font parsing uses defaults if the OS/2 table cannot be read. Tests cover inactive rules and label fonts.
The graduated renderer reports how RustGIS handles values outside configured ranges. The guide lists dashed lines and unread file options among import approximations.
opengeos/RustGIS#618 — The changes update QGIS label-rule filter handling, including inactive rules and else rules.
opengeos/RustGIS#722 — The importer creates label classes from QGIS rules; the requested pane work is not part of this change.
opengeos/RustGIS#762 — The importer now assigns QGIS font-family values to label classes.
Possibly related PRs
opengeos/RustGIS#825 — This PR changes importer behavior introduced by that QGIS importer, including expression conversion, label rules, datasource parsing, and renderer reporting.
opengeos/RustGIS#840 — Both PRs change how the QGIS label importer sets LabelClass.font.
opengeos/RustGIS#824 — This PR uses the font-name normalization and font-face parsing functionality added there.

Importing a multi-layer GeoPackage whose source uses layerid=0 without a layer name adds every table, but the import report gives no warning. This is an import-report gap and does not corrupt data. It should be fixed or accepted before merge, but it is not a serious runtime risk.

The PR makes the QGIS project import more faithful in six places. It reads source options that RustGIS ignores, converts exponent numbers and TRUE/FALSE in expressions, and uses the label font family. It also skips switched-off label rules and leaves them out of else-rule siblings. Last, it tolerates an unreadable OS/2 font table. I found one minor issue and left an inline comment for it. I did not build the code or run the tests.
Bugs
None found. I checked these points:
Rule order: the active="0" check now runs before the filter is converted, and else-rule siblings exclude inactive rules. This matches QGIS and is covered by the new test rule.
Exponents and booleans: exponent numbers are rewritten as plain decimals, and {v} never prints exponent notation for finite values. TRUE and FALSE are lowercased as bare values.
Source options: the parts.take(32) bound, the 100-character truncation and the layerid= cleanup when a layer name is given are sound.
Font table:unwrap_or_default() on the OS/2 read falls back to weight 400 and selection 0, as the comment says.
Performance
None found.
Quality
crates/map/src/qgis/renderer.rs:179: the "values outside the ranges" approximation note is added for every graduated renderer, whether or not any values fall outside the ranges. Every graduated layer will carry this note, which may drown out the notes that matter. (confidence: medium)
Minor: the note for ignored file options says "a file with several layers opens its first" even when the ignored option is geometrytype=Point, which isn't about layers. (confidence: low)
AGENTS.md
No violations seen. The new code has no unwrap, expect or panic! outside tests, and the input bounds are in place. A panic! in the let ... else test code is allowed.
The docs are updated.
The new import-note strings are not wrapped in tl!. Nothing in the diff shows them as interface text, and the surrounding notes are plain strings too.

I found no crash or correctness bugs in the changed code. I read the diff and the surrounding code, but I did not build the PR or run its tests. The concerns below are about design and robustness.
Bugs
None found. I checked these:
the exponent rewrite in expr.rs (1e3 becomes 1000, only for finite values);
the active="0" handling in labels.rs, including that else-rule siblings now skip inactive rules;
font_name sanitising the font family;
the OS/2 fallback in families.rs.
Security
crates/map/src/qgis/source.rs:193: secret redaction is a key-name denylist, so a secret in a non-obvious option, such as a header or a connection string, can reach the notes (cut to 100 characters). I suggest an allowlist of safe option names, or noting only the key for every option. Confidence: medium.
Quality
crates/map/src/qgis/renderer.rs:128: the "values outside the ranges" note is added to every graduated layer, which will be noisy. It is documented as deliberate, so this is minor. Confidence: low.
crates/map/src/qgis/expr.rs: TRUE and FALSE become bare true and false. I did not confirm that RustGIS SQL parses bare boolean literals. A field named true or false would also be read as a value. Confidence: low.
The new tests use else { panic!() }. That is fine in test code.
AGENTS.md
No violations in non-test code. There is no unwrap, expect or indexing, and the 32-option cap bounds the hostile-input handling.
The new notes are report.approximated strings, which are data rather than interface text.

Apply the QGIS SpatiaLite sql filter to the imported layer.
The spatialite branch always sets subset: None, so it never reads the trailing sql= value that QGIS writes for a filtered layer. The importer applies a definition query only when subset is present. The layer is therefore added with every row of the table, including rows that the QGIS filter excludes.

Update the "spatialite" branch to extract and trim the trailing SQL filter from

Minor · Note the unread options of a spatialite source. · source.rs:30-35
The spatialite branch reads only dbname and the table. It sets ignored to an empty list, so an option such as a QGIS filter is dropped with no note. The file import reports unread options through ignored, and the ogr/gdal branch fills that list. The spatialite branch does not.

@coderabbitai Re the two outside-diff findings on source.rs:30-35 (SpatiaLite), both valid and fixed in 0947ae2:
sql= filter (Major): the text after the trailing sql= is now the layer's subset, so the import gives the layer that filter as its definition query. An empty sql= gives no filter. Tested with sql="pop" > 1000.
Unread options (Minor): options other than those QGIS always writes and RustGIS reads or needn't (dbname, table, key, srid, type, estimatedmetadata, checkPrimaryKeyUnicity) are now noted, as for ogr sources. The sql part is split off before the connection string is parsed. Tested with a password='…' option, which is noted as password=….
Also in 0947ae2, following the github-actions note on the key-name denylist: noted options now keep their value only when the option is known to carry nothing private (layerid, geometrytype, uniqueGeometryType). Every other option is noted by its name alone, so a secret under an unexpected name (a header, a connection string) stays out of the notes.
Secret redaction by denylist: changed in 0947ae2 to an allowlist, as you suggested. Only layerid, geometrytype and uniqueGeometryType keep their value in a note; every other option shows its name only (header=…). Tested.
Graduated note on every layer: kept, as the code comment says. The import doesn't read the data, so it can't tell whether a value falls outside the ranges.
Bare true/false: RustGIS SQL reads these as bare words only (the data-query literal()), which is why the quoted form was dropped before. A field actually named true or false would be read as the value. QGIS itself only treats such a name as a field when it is double-quoted, and the converter keeps double-quoted names as fields, so "true" = 1 still compares the field.
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
Since the filter "runs to the end", the split should be at the first sql=, not the last. With rsplit_once, a filter that itself contains sql= (e.g. in a string literal, "note" = 'use sql=1') is cut in the middle, and the head then holds part of the filter, which conninfo parses as options. Confidence: medium-low (rare input, but cheap to fix).
The PR improves the QGIS project import: it reads the font family, source options, SpatiaLite filters, exponents, TRUE/FALSE, and inactive label rules. I found one low-confidence bug and a few minor quality points. I only read the diff and the surrounding source, and ran nothing.
Bugs
crates/map/src/qgis/source.rs:33 (inline comment posted): the SpatiaLite datasource is split at the last sql= (rsplit_once), but the filter runs to the end of the string, so it should be split at the first. A filter that itself contains sql= (for example in a string literal) would be cut. The remainder would then be read as connection options. Confidence: low to medium, since the input is rare and the fix is one line.
Security
Nothing found. noted_option shows values only for an allowlist (layerid, geometrytype, uniquegeometrytype), so secrets such as password= and token= reach the notes by name only. Both are covered by tests, and the option list is capped at 32 entries of 100 characters.
Performance
Nothing found. The 32-option cap bounds the note size, and .take(32) limits the SpatiaLite keys.
Quality
crates/engine/src/cmd/qgis.rs: the "a file with several layers adds them all" wording is shown whenever any ignored option exists and no layer name is set. That includes a single-layer file with only geometrytype=Point, where the claim is false. Confidence: low. Softer wording, such as "may add every layer", would be accurate.
crates/map/src/qgis/renderer.rs: the graduated-renderer note ("values below the first range or above the last…") is added to every graduated layer, so it will be noise in most imports. The comment says this is on purpose. Confidence: low, a product choice.
crates/map/src/qgis/expr.rs: format!("{v}") for a large or small exponent such as 1e300 produces a very long decimal string in the SQL. It is harmless but ugly. Confidence: low.
docs/user-guide/workspace.md: the edited sentence now reads "…first or last class, file options… and what was skipped…". The "and … and" structure is awkward and could be reworded.
AGENTS.md
The new non-test code has no unwrap, expect or panic (the panic!() calls are in tests only), and it uses get() and bounded sizes.
Regression tests were added for the new parsing paths.
This is interface and import-note text, not a tl! literal in the UI, so no translation entries are needed. If the import notes are shown in the UI, the maintainer handles the catalogs.

Report layerid=0 when no layer name is present.
For a multi-layer GeoPackage with |layerid=0, this branch leaves ignored empty and sets no layer name. The importer then passes no layer to layer.addData, which can add all eligible tables rather than the selected first table. No source-option note warns the user. Retain layerid=0 for reporting when layername is absent.

@pick2510 Thanks. I inspected crates/map/src/qgis/source.rs. The code addresses both SpatiaLite findings:
It separates the trailing sql= before parsing connection options. Nonempty SQL becomes subset; empty SQL becomes None.
It records unread options through noted_option(), which masks values before storage in Source::File.ignored.
The allowlist also replaces the earlier denylist guidance. Only layerid, geometrytype, and uniqueGeometryType retain values, with case-insensitive matching. Other key=value options become key=….
The test assertions cover the SQL filter, empty SQL, password masking, and an unexpected header option. I inspected these assertions but did not run the tests.
